basicallly this. ive put quite a few hours into "aim training sims" and none of them can really compete with just pugging/dm'ing the game u wanna get better at. this applies to tf2/csgo/overwatch etc

why play dm instead of just pugging 6s if you want good aim
why squat and deadlift instead of pickup basketball if you want to dunk
why practice scales and chord progressions instead of just piano concertos if you want to play rachmaninoff

oh yeah because intentional practice allows you to improve weaker areas or prerequisite skills at a faster rate than just going for something beyond your ability right off the bat

vladwhy play this over the actual game you're trying to improve in

- Training offline or during low population hours
- Training specifics (Airshots without MGE, tracking without getting bumped by rockets)
- The ability to not have to deal with idiots

jetzzzzzbasicallly this. ive put quite a few hours into "aim training sims" and none of them can really compete with just pugging/dm'ing the game u wanna get better at. this applies to tf2/csgo/overwatch etc

hence the name "Aim Trainer", it doesn't pretend to be anything else, most people using these are aware of the fact that there's more than aiming in these games.

Used kovaaks to improve my rocket aim in quake, all i can say is that anyone that knows me would never refer me as a very good projectile player but in quake people think rockets are my best weapon....

aim is more than just putting your crosshair on something when you wanna fire, it's about predicting movement, using cues specific to the game to predict that movement and in general making it easier for yourself to hit someone (positioning, tracking etc)

clyph0rdoh yeah because intentional practice allows you to improve weaker areas or prerequisite skills at a faster rate than just going for something beyond your ability right off the bat

do what every new player to an fps does to improve and play against new players

i think the usefulness would be if you wanted to explicitly focus on your mechanical aim, noting that this FPS aim trainer has stats, accuracy and damage efficiency up constantly, as well as being able to log your progress.

it's a supplement if that was your one specific area that you wanted to focus on. the same way that watching a demo of a scrim should help improve your decision making. something like this would be perfect to develop your mouse control and muscle memory without having to deal with shitters camping on sheet metal or jewing in house.......

KovaaK's a great player who also helped with povohat's QL accel driver I believe. I wanted to try it out during the beta times where you needed to paypal him but glad it's coming to Steam already. Definitely think it's worth a try, KovaaK has shown to be a competent person that I would expect make a decent simulator.

oh yeah because intentional practice allows you to improve weaker areas or prerequisite skills at a faster rate than just going for something beyond your ability right off the bat

because dm is nonstop dm practice opposed to pugs which have tons of dead time
and if a dm server is "beyond your ability" I dont think playing some random aim training game is gonna help you, especially considering how tf2 is much more then just aiming, for example map knowledge and movement skills. This game isn't gonna teach you where the ammo packs are or how to air strafe and rocket jump.

just play tf2 if you want to get better at tf2

not sure why you're getting downvoted, it is true. when people say "just play the game", they really mean it's building intuition by gaining experience. at the same time assuming you're playing against competent players you'll eventually develop gamesense and also build upon your mechanical skills in the long run.

This is out now if anyone is interested! Only played it for an hour but so far I think it fulfills its purpose really well and would make for good warm-up irregardless of whether or not it's good practise.

If someone makes a tf2-based map be sure to post about it here :D

I tried my hands at a Soldier vs Scout (you can play as either) scenario in a small map; it's not perfect but it's close enough and functional, and anyone else can freely tweak it if they find ways to make it more accurate to the literal Source material. I don't think falloff damage, character size (not viewheight, but maybe that too) or character projectile bounding boxes are that accurate so there's room for improvement but you should be able to try it here

epic necro for the -45% sale right now
it's by no means better than playing tf2 for improving your tf2 aim, but it's a tool that definitely has its uses - building confidence, mouse control, and isolating specific areas of your aim to improve on.

The way the scenarios are presented means that pretty much all new players will end up playing Tile Frenzy (or some derivative) which teaches you literally nothing about anything, so try these instead:
Bounce 180 (any and all variations of this are good)
Bounce 180 Tracking (same applies)
patTargetSwitch (+v2)
1wall5targets_pasu
Air
Ground Plaza
Close Fast Strafes Invincible (Shotgun if you hate yourself)
Close Long Strafes Invincible

would like to see some more tf2 players on the leaderboards!

Definitely would recommend to people as well. I really enjoy the bounce 180 scenarios. Think I'm just outside top100 for the main one.

Tile Frenzy gamemodes are pretty much only good for quickly adjusting fast general movement within 40fov to a new sensitivity, precise movements/tracking people definitely need to move away from the tile frenzy modes asap.

for most people I recommend doing these scenarios first

Bounce 180
Close Long Strafes Invincible
1wall5targets_pasu
1wall6targets TE - spend less time on this one than any of the other ones.

Atm, I'm not sure what scenarios would be really good for Soldier/Demoman primaries though

-edit
I've been told that most of the quake rocket launcher ones can have the weapon copied and you can up the projectile speed by 10% and you'll get the same projectile speed as tf2.
