Why would anyone use this when Scorch Shot exists
Currently the only 3 niche reasons to use it are the following:
* it arcs so you can throw it to an area the Scorch Shot can't hit and someone else on your team can take advantage of it like your scout for some light extra damage.
* it can give pyros afterburn because reasons
Obviously none of these make it still super worth using since the weapon is pretty crap even with it flying through walls and stuff, but ya.

Gas Passer charges in setup time so it might be worth running to sac on Badwater first.
Also, it goes through some walls.
Also, what's nice about Scorch is that you don't have to hold it out for it to blow up, which means you can have more flamethrower uptime. Detonator is almost always better, but I can see Scorch being useful on certain maps where you don't need to jump or hit people / sticky traps above you that aren't on a sloped surface, like defending Metalworks last. It might also be good on Badlands, but I prefer Detonator so if I'm pushing out, I can jump Spire or hit people on pride rock from low ground.

It's better but it requires more aiming when scorch shot is "fire and forget"
and det doesnt do knockback

If you direct hit a player with the scorch shot the flare will linger in the air and then fall back down a ways before exploding (it hits twice, basically). In this regard, it remains very valuable to spam chokes/point when coupled with its ability to juggle players with its knock back. Additionally you can switch back to your flamethrower while flares are on CD to reflect/use flames. I think the main reason the detonator is better is that it gives you more mobility and its a lot easier to hit mid-air stuff, but the scorch shot is a lot more versatile than players generally give it credit for.

what daffodil said, if u have ever been hit by the scorch shot twice u would realize that it can do ~100 damage if not extinguished. and that's if you weren't already on fire.
