I've been using an HTC 10 for about 2 years and it's started to slow down and the battery seems to be dying as well, recently every time it gets down to like ~75% it will suddenly flash 1% and then power off power off and go in a boot loop. I looked it up and it doesn't seem possible (or easy if so) to replace the battery and it's gotten to near the end of the 2 year contract thing so I figure it's probably just time to get a new phone.

Looking to hopefully get something that has a decent battery and won't become a potato after a year or two, definitely leaning towards android, and the only other thing that really matters is it has to have good audio (the main reason I got the HTC 10 was it's got a good DAC and preamp and my headphones sound good from it). Would be nice to have a good camera and be fast as well but not that big a priority as i dont really play games or do much demanding things other than like watch youtube/twitch

I'm on verizon btw and am not sure on the budget or whatever

Dude, I went from a LG V20 (that I could sell to you for cheap, its unlocked and everything) to a Google Pixel 2 XL. Its the fastest phone I ever had it never goes under 60fps whatever im doing, all the apps open up within 1 sec and I get Android updates like 3-4 months before others. I also broke it 2 months after having it, contacted google support and after sending it monday I got a new Pixel 2 XL wednesday morning in the mail.

Crazy fast phone, premium feel, great speakers, awesome customer support, super fast everything and OS update and the Camera is incredible

I am #TeamPixel for life now! I cant praise it enough. It also pairs really well with my google homes and chromecast :)

If u want Good audio go for a recent LG, my V20 has a amp inside it that makes the sound 10x better than any other phone that doesnt have one, thats the one downside from moving to my Pixel 2.

Also if you want more info about cellphones or want to workout the maths for your budget / subvention. I am a loyalty agent for a big communication company in Canada for small businesses, I take care of their devices / contract. I can help you with whatever you need!

Seconded, the Pixel family in general are just really nice smartphones. Everything runs fluidly, the 4k60fps camera is one of the best mobile cameras on the market, and the display is really nice. battery on the XLs have always been really good for me as well, lasts a lot longer then previous phones I owned.

I'm using a Moto G without LTE... Waiting on other snapdragon 845 phones before deciding on one.

New Oneplus 6 coming out; see if you can get a 5T or a 5 at a lower price. I have the OP5 myself and its really good considering the price. Also, the experience is close to vanilla android for nearly half the price of most other top flagship phones whilst delivering a solid experience

If you're looking at something budget take a look at xiaomi 4x. This phone is probably one of the best ones under 200$

like everyone said above pixel is a great phone. I've had the pixel one since release and it still works amazingly, battery charges quickly and lasts long, phone runs well, great camera

So I did a little research and the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL have no headphone jack? I feel like having to use an adapter for my headphones is a big pain in the ass sand I'm not tryna spend more money on new bluetooth headphones. Seems like the play otherwise but I'm kind skeptical about this no headphone jack thing lol

Also apparently my phone is 2 months off from the end of the 2 year contract thing idk how that shit works tbh but I'd be kinda pissed if it memed me -_-

aight so here's my thoughts, every android phone seems to have a really good thing and a pretty bad thing going for it. None of them are really perfect or are outstandingly better than every other phone.

Pixel 2 + XL - They are pretty decent phones. Main selling point for me is the regular software updates. Something that other droid phones lack is timely security updates. There's no headphone port which is a pretty big stain imo and no SD card slot, however the storage you get as standard is 64GB and I'm not sure if it's still going on but I think you get unlimited storage with full res photos with Google Photos, not sure if it's still a thing. The XL seems to have dropped in price recently as well which is also a pretty neat bonus.

BUT The XL is made by LG who really fucking dropped the ball with the Nexus 5 and have really bad stability problems at around the 1 year mark. However that may not apply to this one yet.

One Plus - They've been going down in my opinion ever since they started to raise their prices even more, kinda sucks as they were a good replacement to the Nexus line where you can get a decent spec phone that has regular software updates. Now you pay the same as any flagship in some cases. They do have somewhat decent software support as their version of Android is kinda just an improved version of the stock OS.

They do however fuck up with security pretty massively which is worth having a look at if you care about that stuff.

Samsung - They have some pretty nice phones but they are doing what Apple do now which is just raise the price of their new phone without doing much in ways of improvement. They are also one of the worst companies out there for software updates.

LG have also had some pretty good phones but they fall the same way as Samsung in terms of software updates, which is a massive shame because the V20 and V30 were fucking good phones. But also they have had a pretty bad reputation in terms of quality with the LG G4 bootloops and the G5 screen burning. They also don't know what phone of theirs will be a flagship either because they just bring out a far superior phone in 6 months time anyway.

Just an update on this (don't know if its relevant anymore)
Ive ran into a few issues with my Pixel 2 XL but a major one for me is that sometimes its terribly slow and laggy to the point where it almost freezes and its not just me having this issue:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_5zZnuB71w

So a heads up, i think the Pixel 3 is getting released this year anyway so.

would expect pixel 3 to follow Android Pie somewhat soon? maybe MWC or sooner?

IMO you can breathe a lot of new life into your 10 by just flashing it and taking it to a repair shop to replace the battery. If anything it's a lot cheaper than to get a new contract at a phone company.

I've actually been using a M8 until about a month ago (which, funnily enough, I also got rid of because of similar battery issues, now my dad is using it for just calls).
