Which old players' playstyles could still work in today's meta, and which players would suffer in today's meta in your guys' opinion?
for the most part every player that played before pocket scout meta would absolutely suck ass
seagull would still be good
seagull would still be good
the real question is which old players had the skill and mindset to adapt, not who would be the least shitty if u lifted their exact form from 2010 or whatever
like a guy like reptile was so fucking good that with a few months he might be good again, but if he tried to play the same as before he wouldn't be

Carnage was playing pugs again for a while just before Quake Champions came out and he still refused to use damage numbers, hitsounds, or a custom hud but did alright
All the old players are by definition worse than the new ones because they lost motivation to play. If you project along some trajectory where they did for some reason keep playing, they're going to get worse because that's what happens without motivation.
jukebox was far enough ahead of his time to fit with the modern meta
Why wouldn't any top player from back in the day still be able to be a top player today? It's not like there have been very many significant meta changes over the years that would make today's game seem foreign to an old player. The only big ones would be the demo sticky nerf, double gunboats soldiers, and pocket scouts getting more heals, but the first two should already be familiar to most players depending on how old of a player you're talking about. Then I suppose the only question is whether old non-scout mains would be willing to give up their heals to a pocket scout, and I don't see a lot of players being such stubborn heal-hogs that they would refuse to adapt.

How good mechanically players have gotten at TF2 over the last few years is much better than players years ago. Shotgun soldier may still be viable but keeping the mobility with shotgun soldier is something older players would severely struggle with. Anyone who was good at demo before would not be able to keep the magic on demo. Teams also play aggressive off of much better reasons now. For example modern era teams are much better at punishing at the slightest mis-step in positioning (i.e. one player not holding the correct doorway) when older levels of punish game were teams punishing people for not having good team positioning (a whole team choosing to play passive in situations where they should be playing aggressive).
Ma3la was retired for a year and when he came back was still a high level player. Watching seagull play back then his positioning and timing was extremely solid that he can probably still be a very good player today. MGEMike would also still likely be good.
The saddest truth of any of this is that if your favorite invite player from back in the day is most likely going to be dumpstered by low-mid level invite players.

its sorta not the question but players who were at the top would be able to come back and have the ability to get there again if they really wanted too. Bringing the old meta directly to compare would be hard, just get all the old invite players in their own league where they dont have to adapt to the new meta and can play the old game until they arent rusty, then put them up against current teams and then we would actually be able to see but thats never going to happen.
I guess the closest thing we have seen to this was when AU meta met eu and na and vise versa. So to try and go back to the question is that old players wouldn't be as mechanically as sound as they used to be and would naturally adapt to the meta instead of having the raw skill to be able to play with the old meta. I would assume that the "old meta" wouldnt work anymore because otherwise top players who have been playing throughout all the changes would be playing the same way now.
I dont even know if any of this makes sense, probably just went off topic.

All of them as they'd have the same mechanical improvements as today's keenos, if they were still keen.
from watching old matches and shit everyone walks on the ground so much, game was played much slower also because of the maps that were played which didn't really feature many oppurtunities to rocket jump (cp_freight for example)
probably any old player who had good mechanics like yz50 would be able to learn the meta if they put their mind to it. some old players have come back from a hiatus have played at a decent level after a short while (cookye, alba and especially smzi)

m93 bulls vs s18 froyotech who wins guys ?
Jordan would just get airshot constantly, he doesn't even airstrafe.

screw the meta, atleast old players had true personalities, nowadays most top players dont act like actual humans, you would think it would be the other way around since before we had (bigger) prizepools????
