I don't see what's so hard to understand, crumpet. Would you care so much if this had been a 40 year old Russian man? Do you think the thief being a child made it any better?
Do you seem to think that theft isn't illegal?
I mean honestly, you're pissed off and acting like he threatened to kill their families or something. Legal threats over a legal problem. He stole a ~200$ item from RoodY. Do you think it would have been better had he gotten away with it?
You think he stole it fair and square, eh?

I think the point Crumpet is trying to make, is that yes the item was stolen, but that didn't justify public intimidation and humiliation of the suspect to get it back. Going through the proper legal channels is justified, and that's not what happened here. Dare I say that a huge can of worms might've been opened with the way this was handled.

Technoblademoronic bullshit
-I've never made any issue over this being a kid. You don't threaten a person's family, no matter how old they are.
-This isn't theft. There was nothing stolen. An open transaction like this is nothing bu t a verbal contract of "you give me this then I'll give you that", which has no legal authority and isn't even remotely close to the act of theft.
-Someone saying that they'd see this guy's sisters real soon isn't a legal threat you fucking pissfiend

it's either theft or fraud. there is likely a chat log on SOMETHING that details an agreement of monetary compensation for the virtual item.
In either instance, it's a crime. ;)

crumpetyeah speaking out against harassment and threats is the hallmark of a hate filled person grrrr!
Phrasing is incredibly important. As a crass cunt, i understand this.
"Even if he did scam you, discretion in this is more advisable; there's potential for him to change and he doesn't need the stigma of scamming to mar a potentially good person's reputation."

Please don't quote things I've never said.
Yes, this was a theft. There was an agreement between them that they would exchange the currency and hats, and one did not go through with the bargain, while taking the other guy's stuff. STOLEN. You say it isn't legally considered 'theft' but legal view or not, that's what it amounts to. If it wasn't legally considered that, then he couldn't have actually gotten the hat back without employing the use of completely empty threats.
Now, you've suddenly brought up a point of "this guy said he'd see his sister real soon" and then called me... a... pissfiend? Ok, that one's confusing, but I was clearly referring to the lawsuit mentions from pure. I never said that particular one was legal, because I had never heard of it.
Judging from the information Pure dug up, this kid ain't no saint either.
On a cheerful note, woohoo scammer thwarted!
ikpure to begin his legacy as a private internet investigator specializing in hats

I see where crumpet is coming from. He isn't a moron who trades a virtual hat for real money. Since you found out it was a kid that's basically being stupid. If the kid was smart enough he would have kept the hat and just go on about his life, but no when you dramatize a kid thinking that if he doesn't give the hat back he will be in hell of trouble about something over the Internet.

I could easily say the same thing for people who buy virtual games for real money, virtual music for real money, the list goes on.

It's not dumb, it's Economy 101. It's how much value you perceive a product to be, for some a virtual hat is worth $200, to others it could be completely worthless.
