Probably because it's the heat of the moment, but everyone is getting mad at the wrong people right now. Both teams were put into a shitty situation and the Crunchy Bunch were already pressured with bedtimes coming up. I don't think they made the right decision, but it's wrong to say that they're just playing for the prize money.

From what I've heard, Crunchy didn't enforce any time limit or anything, it was PGT that unpaused. Like Sakura just said, both teams were in a shitty situation, blame the DDOSers.

i remember in our match last season on dh when managachu go ddos but i think it was the whole server as well since we were all at 400+ ping for like 5 mins back and forth. IMO if its an esea server that is being targeted then they should step it up about stuff like that. I know it was only a few players on one team that got the worst of it. So hopefully something can be done about this

This is the perfect example of bad things happening to good people. It sucks guys but it doesnt mean we have to hate on crunchy.

Are you actually advocating that we shouldn't try and get to the bottom of this or prevent it from happening in the future? That's odd.

Playground tactics really surprise me with their level of play. I typically just looked down on open teams. I recently reviewed a demo of you guys playing and it was a really good combination of cohesion, teamwork, dm & strategy (redundant but w/e).

With that being said (me going on a tangent before even getting to the point), it's pretty foul play that CB were like "people have to go", and insisted on unpausing. One of the players saying "sorry it came to this" (or something like that) comes off as really condescending and just rubs salt in the wound.

Would definitely like to see something done about this - be it a rematch or something.

In no way am I implying that the disconnects are CB's fault. Their response to the disconnects is more concerning. You could say "oh they were just following rules", but there's this thing called sportsmanship, and I think the most minimal amount possible was shown by them in this game.

Assuming you even parked at the start of the round, assuming they did the capping as fast as possible:

16ish seconds to cap mid and 2nd, and let's just say 10 to rollout to mid - 1/2 a minute to lose the whole map, while caution would probably be exercised slowing, let's say for an additional 20 seconds (checking for hiding people avoiding sniper sight lines etc). all told somewhere greater than 40 seconds to set up to push your last. Then at even an optimum a 40 second delay between each reattempt at pushing until the round timed out would result in the ability to push ~6-8 times presuming their medic never died.

As I was watching I even came up with a handy bus parking strat for gullywash whereby you probably could have parked on second and then baited out a repush (since they were still losing by that point and would *have* to push out) at which point you would simply turtle mid with a sentry + heavy as well. Hoping for a C&D spy to cap last lol.

Desperate times call for desperate measures lol.

Or we could all just set up gamesurge accounts and mask our IPs in irc when we pug. That would solve the problem for the most part as well since I assume that's how most of our IPs are being found.

DDoS'ing like this and ruining matches is pretty much the most pussy way of being a troll. Seriously some people have absolutely no life at all.

It's a total shame what happened...like a few others above, this was the first open match I've watched in quite some time and playground tactics were really outclassing CB, i was very impressed with their team symmetry on pushes. On top of that, they even made a push all the way to last when they were down 5v6..very impressive against another top seeded team.

While CB shouldn't be chastised, since they did wait, i would not consider this a true win for them. It's a shame they didn't just play 5v5 and take the loss, because everyone (including them) has to know PT would have won.

The worst part is this win would have put them in the upper finals, so now they have a chance to lose in the lower bracket and miss that chance all together. Also who is to say this asshole won't try to ddos them again?? Talk about a shitty situation.

I know CB and PT are good friends, but if CB was winning 4-0 then dropped a Demoman would PT have dropped their Demoman too and let them win? This IS playoffs, and PT has something like 13 members on the roster - SOMEONE could have filled in sooner and allowed play to continue.

Knowing everyone on Playground Tactics really well, I know for a fact that they would have kept the pause going until Crunchy bunch had gotten their 6th. Two seasons ago my team had to go through two basically 20 minute pauses in a match within minutes of each other, and London and insom both waited patiently for us to get our players in. Also, most of Playground Tactic's players are west coast, so they weren't even thinking of going to bed during the match.

Playground Tactics as a lot of people on the roster, yes. Most of them are either not paid up or don't play the game anymore and were only added to the roster to sub in some months ago / as friends. Antwan, who also played in the match yesterday, was one of those backups. It's ridiculous in my opinion to have to even suggest that playground tactics, or any team for that matter, should have come into a playoffs match with 2, let alone 3, backups AT THE READY to sub-in so quickly.

I'm not blaming Crunchy Bunch, even the sportsmanship thing can slide. Like you brought up, a match is a match, and according to esea rules, this will have to go, so no point getting worked up over spilled milk.

we were in the process of getting a 6th after preston got dropped. we brought in another backup (X) to replace rikachu even though in the cast it doesnt say it was him. if you watch the STV demo, you can see rikachu times out completely during the end of the 5th round and that is the reason for the first pause. he had to renew his premium (shitty) to come in and play 5v6. shortly after X comes in, preston drops out of mumble and then a minute later drops completely out of the game. we then pause the 2nd time for less than 5 minutes because we're trying to figure out what we should do. we had messiah aka frog1 online as well as trisk who we debated about paying up to play the match and finish it, but this would have taken time as well. we knew that the crunchy bunch had to leave soon, and we knew we were getting fucked and that most likely insom or antwan would be getting DDoSed next if we brought a 6th in. in the end, we didnt want to waste more money and time on a shit match.

to answer your hypothetical question: we would have waited as long as possible for them to figure out their shit. yeah its shitty to wait around but in the end, even if we were down 4-0 its probably because we were playing like shit. we try to take our losses pretty gracefully, theres no shame in losing to a team that is better than you.

Fair enough. It was just a hypothetical question anyways, talked to one of the CB guys in mumble after the match and he had nothing but good things to say about the way PT handled the issue and said he felt bad about the result.

I wasn't around last night to actually watch what happened so I can only judge from the threads being made and it's shitty that another playoff game was dos'ed. I see that a lot of people are saying that the game should have been rescheduled, but lets be honest, trying to reschedule playoff matches are very difficult. This is why I never understood why open and IM playoff matches can't be longer. They would still finish way earlier than LAN and if something like this happens the teams would be able to reschedule.

Im away on a trip so we were already using one backup, then used another when rikachu dropped. We have people on our roster that haven't been online for days, not paid or just roster riding. Realistically, we have 2 backups that we use. To use anyone else, we would need to scramble and pray theyre online. Besides, It's unfair to expect any team to anticipate needing to go that deep into their roster.

The team played really well and has handled this ridiculous situation with class. Can't really ask any more from them.

It´s really nice that it´s playoffs and all but lemme get it straight;
CB and PT are good friends, Right? now, i don´t know how much money they get if they win the playoffs but would you keep on playing if you knew it was UNDESERVED and you FUCKED your friends while doing it? I don´t know.
Ofcourse, winning is nice but fucking your friends while doing it doesn´t seem cool to me.
I probably have too little information on this whole event, since the only thing i did is watch the cast like 10 minutes ago. But i really dislike the fact that CB did this.
On the other hand, it´s easy to say that you wouldn´t do the same if you were in the situation, same for me, i´ve never been in the situation of playing tf2 for money. But i do know that winning it like this is retarded.

But yeah, that´s my opinion. Like i said on some parts of the happening i probably have to less information like on how good of friends CB and PT are and some other stuff. it´s just the opinion of some outsider thinking he´s smart, so fill me in with any extra info i should´ve known before writing my opinion on this.

EDIT: this whole shitfest of words is written on how CB played it out, it´s not about the DDoS.

I can see playing it out with 6 but running the heavy was pure douchebaggery.
