I heard about your wrist through ennay and I'm really sorry to hear that klare bby T_T
I had an accident a few years ago that fucked up my right hand. It's more prevalent when I write than when I use a mouse, but there are still times I have stop completely because I am just unable to flex any muscle in my hand and it hurts like fuck. It can be really frustrating.

I was misdiagnosed with a brainstem tumor 2 years ago. Imagine the unthinkable in being told that you were going to die and there was nothing you could have done to stop it. After two weeks of not eating hardly anything, neurosurgeons realized they made a mistake simply because, and I quote, "You've got a very large head, and the large amount of bone put very unique artifacts on the image. But you're totally fine. No tumors."
Nonetheless... sorry to hear about that story, but I do know how it feels, and it's terrible.

You may ask us not to give you any sympathy but it's hard not too when we can all have some level of empathy with your situation.
Also, do you work on a laptop all day? When I have heavy work load days where I'm doing a lot of copy/paste work my wrist is done. A nice ergonomic keyboard for work will help at play.

Careen-ending Injuries are like having a funeral for somebody, only they're still alive. It must suck immensely and yet I can't quite find the words to express what I want to express and not come across as incredibly cheesy or something.
Sooo... Free Hugs?

I would buy a steering wheel and play Phlog Pyro all day. (I think you don't need a good wrist to steer?) The horn being fire.

I played BF2 for about a year with a one armed dude. Didn't even realize it for a long while until I noticed he was having some trouble peeking a corner while nade spamming.
He had forward and back operated by his feet, 5 mouse buttons for ptt, nades, etc, and aside from that he had to move his hand to the kb to accomplish anything like strafing. His playstyle reflected the fact that his movement was compromised, but he managed to be pretty effective, and could aim.
Honestly you could probably do 95% of TF2 one handed if you had a jump crouch script, and a better setup for foot controls.

Maybe get a Razer Naga or similar 12 button mouse, and bind most actions/commands to the mouse.
But, if I were in this position, I'd try to find something else I'm interested in that isn't sitting at my desk for 12 hours a day. It would probably make my life better in the long run, though, seeing as most of my friends are online, it would take me a lot to pull me away from what I loved doing.

it would be tough for sure. I think if i had a problem where i lost complete connection to the tf2 world it would be much worse since even if i couldnt play tf2 due to an injury or something id still have a bunch of kick ass friends that i could still talk to when i wanted.

I know for me it'd be hard for a while. But I think after long enough I'd be able to move on with activities that I enjoy outside of gaming, and like Milehigh said, I could at least still watch the amazing casts of games, and I'd still have the tf2 community and all my kickass friends to talk to.
Also, the drummer for Def Leppard, Rick Allen, plays drums better than most people will ever, and with one arm (he has a foot pedal system I think). There's gotta be a way to use your feet to game, I guarantee you someone has come up with something.

not sure if it'd be any different

I broke my left wrist when I was 15, still gives me some trouble from time to time but if I had to stop playing completely I would be pretty sad but I would probably get over it somehow.

I was a young olympic baseball player with a promising future in baseball, I even had D 1 scouts showing up to my games as a FRESHMAN (given I had some connections most people don't), but then we went down to Florida and I pitched in the Youth Olympics and... well look at that I tore my rotator cuff. It was so badly torn that I had to change my whole delivery style and even then things just weren't right. The new delivery actually caused bone spurs (which isn't that big of a deal but still really bad to see in somebody under 18!).
I refocused my life. Although I did consider trying to teach myself how to throw with my left hand lol. I got into reading and gaming hardcore. Now I'm a nerd stuck in an abnormally athletic body lol. OF course other physical ailments are the reason I play this game so much anyways (ty factory work). Lots of guys I worked with had carpel tunnel at one point or another (the work was very wrist intensive! lol) several of them had the big long scars you get as a result of the aforementioned surgery.
Some people get carpel tunnel etc - it's not a big deal, although it's expensive. I assume you work on a computer? Probably the cause there I suppose.
I'd be pretty upset, although my cousin plays tf2 in pubs fairly often and his left hand doesn't work (withered left arm - birth defect) and he just has a sweet MMO gaming mouse that makes it such that he only has to use his good hand - while he uses his left to press the spacebar (which he uses as mouse 1).

i think you'll be fine eventually but it's going to take quite some time i can assure you that
i skateboarded for a long time, i've had countless injuries like broken fingers, fractured wrist, ankle etc and around the time when i was playing cs 1.3 in comp i just stopped for a lonnnnnnnnnnng time, i quit gaming for a few years just took a step back, healed up and kept skating but even when i was gaming a bit i had severe pain in my wrist/hand and it was too much so i just stopped. it was really built up for a while even when i didn't have bad injuries just always bailing or falling just took a toll, i had pretty bad tissue damage in my ankle at one point too and that was really awful to say the least. it really does suck no question but you're more than likely in need of a serious break, a bit of a hiatus yeah it couldn't hurt. hopefully you'll be back on soon !

I reallywant to give a HUGE thanks to all of you "only-fkin-rule-in-the-thread-breaking-bastards" for all the love and kind words. I love that i am able to give back to the community... even though in all honesty i do nothing at all (seriously... auto update and auto payments = set for life) and still get giddy when someone tells me they love the servers. I love that you love them... and as long as people love them they will be up and running - automatically of course <3
My apologies again for starting off wednesday with suck a downer thread. I wrote that post after literally sitting and staring at nothing for over an hour this morning - digesting this shit aint easy for me. Saying and thinking that you can no longer do something you have done daily for the majority of your life doesnt even compare to actually experiencing it. It sucks feeling broken and knowing theres no rollback to how you used to be. I def spent too much time in my head this morning and all I wanted was hear how other srs gamer nerds think they would react. I originally I left my wrist/hand story out bc i despise lookling like a woe-is-me'er. Its such a strange situation to put yourself in though... and i really wanted honest responses so i had to make it personal. Thanks to everyone who responded and a special thanks to those who shared personal experiences. Reading this thread at work today brightened the fuck out of my entire day. I realized this was mother natures way of saying the time has come to go over the TF2 hill and join the regal group of broken down oldtimers in the next stage of TF2 life.... time to learn how to cast. (i kid... i love you casters... <3)
OH and just to clarify it is my left hand with the dead fingers - keyboard not mouse. Not being able to tell if youre hitting keys is not a fun crutch - though it could be an entertaining ggglygy skill enhancer idea. =)

Ok, it's story time.
Being emo sometimes can be pretty fun and relieving, so here I go.
I haven't been around lately, as some of you have already noticed, and I have a reason for it. I've always been pretty active, I believe that I always had the 80h/2weeks tf2 ratio, so yeah, I didn't really go out much, I really loved tf2 and playing it always made me happy. But this year I decided that it would be different, I would start going out more and hang out with friends more than playing tf2. Well, I did it. But yeah I'm kind of an unlucky person. When I decided to go out the first weekend, I went to a nightclub with some college friends on a friday, and it was fun! I met a girl there and she invited me to go with her at the same nightclub on saturday, I said I would, and I did. It was being a pretty good experience overall, since I've always been a tf2-lover-nerd (and I still am, i cannot lie). So yeah... the next day I invited we went to this nightclub again, and for my surprise, I found 4 good friends of mine there that I wasn't expecting to see. It was being a great night and an awesome weekend, since it was pretty much my first weekend really going out. I believe that you guys heard about a fire in a nightclub here in Brazil 2 months ago. Yeah. It was that night. I don't feel like giving details about it because it's not something I really don't feel comfortable sharing with you all and I believe not everyone wants to read it. What are the fucking odds, right? First fucking weekend going out, tragedy happens. I lost 2 of my friends there, friends that were right fucking next to me, and I can say I was pretty close to losing my own life that night. I ended up by helping people outside, including the girl I met the night before. This is what has been keeping me away from the interwebzzzz and tf2, I know it might not make much sense, since tf2 was what always kept me happy, but i've been under psychological treatment and since then i've been trying to start to live again. What has hurt me the most after that night is the guilt of being here, alive, having a chance to do stuff. I confess I feel pretty relieved by telling you guys all of this. I believe i've only talked to my closest tf2 e-friends about it, so now I'm making it public. I miss tf2 but I can't focus on pretty much anything atm. I relive the nightmare every night I go to bed, and everyday I feel any better, all the good thoughts I had turn into shit and makes me feel pretty depressed. Well, I thinks this is it. I love you all (not really, but ok)
sorry for being too br and stuff like that.

I'm not too worried about my wrists, thankfully. I used to play drums until i was about 22. Started at 14 when i got bored with french horn. For the first year i had intense wrist pain because the muscles weren't developed (i also had abhorrent technique.) But after about a season of numbness it went away. Hopefully with some rest and care you can get back to what you love and enjoy, but make sure to take care of the tools to do it, missy.
