Would anyone be interested in a hud making competition? You have to make every thing from scratch form the stock resource and scripts folder. Maybe get a panel of judges to make sure the huds are original and then let the community vote on their favorite. If you guys show enough interest i wouldn't mind running it and shit.
also no already made huds

Would have to find something my programmer teacher used to see if the code/ script came from the internet. I don't know what she used, but some program just ran through whole program and Google searched it all.
Who would judge also? Community or just like 10 people or something?
Also I would suggest making all the entries to be random number so people don't pick the community favorites.

I dont think its would need to be that extreme to see if it ripped off.

Now that im thinking about it i think it would be better just to have the community judge it.

Uhh i dont follow you could you explain?

Idk if making it from scratch is a good idea, a lot of huds aren't made from scratch these days, they use other huds as a base and work from there.

So what could be from scratch, the winpanel i know pisses me off but most the other stuff you can figure out by watching vids and other guides. I guess adding crosshairs like fogs and mores could be ok. I think the biggest thing would be the fonts because they take awhile to add and its very punishing if you get anything wrong.

You should definitely not be in charge/a judge of it if it happens.

Well lets say this:
Player "a" is well known everyone loves her for the nudes. So she enters the competition to make a HUD. She goes about to all the forums in the world post saying "You up-vote my entry, you get nudes."
Player "b" is a guy like me, no one knows me, I don't go out and give nudes.. I tried didn't work over Xbox Live... So I lose because I am not known, nor did I go out and "advertise" my HUD.
So what I tried saying is this:
Player "a" will be entry number 1, for person "Z" to vote yes or no.
Player "a" will be entry number 78, for person "X" to vote yer or no.
Player "b" will be entry number 2, for person "Z" to vote yes or no.
Player "b" will be entry number 1, for person "X" to vote yes or no.
A bit better explanation?

I think that this proposed competition is a bad idea for numerous reasons, but if you go through with it, you should be encouraging openness and collaboration, not forbidding it.

This will not work and the reason why should be fairly obvious.

Sounds like a good idea. Would spice up the hud community. I honestly wish someone would recreate Boen's hud though, I loved that damn thing.

I agree, it doesn't matter if you stole code, what matters is if the HUD looks pretty or not.

As someone who has developed a HUD, here are my two cents.
First, I probably wouldn't participate. Developing a HUD is incredibly hard work, and I've already sunk dozens of hours into my HUD (from scratch, no less) which I am incredibly happy with. There is no way I'd start over.
Second, you can't really verify that something is or is not stolen. Pretty much every HUD element (not fonts or animations) is static, with the exception of X, Y, Z positions, and size. The static straight lines I use on my HUD have the same essential "code" that everyone else's straight lines use. The same thing with the missing HUD features, like spectator/teammate health.
Third, to go with my previous point, locking out existing HUDs or modifications stifles creativity. A lot of technology and entertainment is based on iterative design. There is a reason a lot of popular HUDs look similar: some people modified existing HUDs, others took inspiration from them and created their own. I know that if I could enter my HUD into a competition, I'd focus more on fixing the small bugs and pixel adjustments, iterating on things that are lackluster, and working more on the missing features.
Lastly, as mentioned above, developing a HUD is really, really time consuming. Even the "base" features (moving health/ammo elements and charge bars) can take a few days to accomplish. This turns a lot of people off. There's no click and drag interface, just editing raw res files. So you'd need to allow a few weeks or a month for this competition (which can cause people to lose interest).
I'm not saying you shouldn't do it, but you need to take a broader look at how HUDs are developed, and figure out the best way to go about this competition.

im with animal, i get thousands of downloads per update with mine which I've sunk almost three years into. i also started mine from scratch.

Rather than a competition, I'd prefer to see a comprehensive list of all the huds that are current. There are tons of them and they're all over the place. Maybe make a searchable system by their elements such as big numbers or a unique crosshair.

I was think of a competition because it would get more huds out onto the market. Also on the forums there's already a thread for huds.

So im getting 2 big things
1. should it nonstock like you can take a hud but edit it so much its not the original hud anymore?
2. should we allow already made huds the only problem i have with this is they might win just because they have a following
