Battlebull said that it was because he was testing that plugin that allows you to increase fov. I don't think I've heard of anyone else gotten banned for that. So.

openplugin? if they are starting to ban for this then there's gonna be a ton of upcoming drama...

I don't want to sound dumb, but why exactly did he get banned for? And I've never honestly know this guy, is he some arrogant jerk that has a giant ego?

afaik, he didn't have much of an ego...he just admin'd for ugc and ran a team for HL 1 or 2 (or 3) seasons ago. No idea what he was doing after I left the HL scene though.

I know you won't care what I say, but let me explain what I know:

The only thing I've ever installed besides vanilla TF2 was OpenPlugin, and that was back in March to test it and make sure that it wasn't a wallhack (and something that UGC ought to be concerned with). I didn't use it in normal/match play, and the way you guys are talking is making it seem as though Valve is okay with the plugin. I'm just as confused as anyone else here is.

I've been working as closely as I can with Valve to get this reversed, but they are still unwilling to give me any information as to the grounds of my ban, so I can't really figure out what to do now. I've heard through the grapevine that I'm not the only community admin that was VAC banned this last batch (one of the head admins of one of the game's largest pub communities also got the banhammer last week). Hopefully this is something that I can hopefully figure out and get reversed, but Valve doesn't seem willing to budge and apparently they don't even consider reversals.

On a side note, I love you guys. I'd totally forgotten about my great pre-comp career LFT thread, and this picture is brilliant:

Rest assured I'm upset enough about this incident that unless I can get this reversed I'll probably be taking a break from TF2 for a while.

If they really banned for the plugin useage, then I guess the moral of the story is League Admins should test suspicious things on alt accounts.

Lesson learned too late, my friend. I do take full responsibility for that, but at the time nobody else on the admin staff even seemed interested in looking into the plugin further and I didn't own an alt.

Either way I still think it's a bit weird when a large portion of the competitive community practically advocates OpenPlugin use. Isn't it bannable in ESEA?

etf2l allows it, and they're usually the people you read advocating it. but it's a plugin and valve has never outright banned for it, so i dunno mank.

well i have a friend who got vacbanned and he said he only used fov plugin and never cheated.

Hey there NATF2,

Some of you that are familiar with UGC might know me - I'm Moose, from eXtv, the guy who makes the Moose Tracks series of Highlander guide videos. Anyways, I have two seasons of Highlander Soldier experience under my belt and now I want 6's experience.

I'm not sure what else I should put here.

- I've got about 900 hours in the class since my last reset (and only ~400 show up, because jump maps, training, and MGE don't seem to count).
- I do independent coaching for both individual Soldiers and Highlander teams.
- I'm not really interested in low Open. I beat the pocket of the last team I tried out for 20-0 in MGE when I was about 12 shots drunk (ESEA-O). I've got an offer to sit in as a backup on an IM team, but I'd rather start on an established Open team than not play.
- I was taught to play as a Roamer but I'm willing to stick around the Medic and play Pocket as well.

Let me know if you're interested or want to watch me play. Please don't add me out of the blue - post here first and I will respond.

Why are people getting selectively banned for using openplugin? If VAC can detect it, wouldn't they ban everyone that has it?

Normally I'd be like "haha nice excuse" or something, but Valve has warned about using plugins like these in the past and that they might throw VAC bans for it, and considering it's Moose, I kinda doubt he cheated.
