We're all bummed out that Copenhagen Games got canceled, but I figure since we've all booked time off for Easter anyway and are stuck sitting inside, why don't we organize a tournament to keep ourselves occupied and have something to get hyped about?
I have 40€ sitting in my paypal account that I'd be willing to put up as prize money, and if we have a bunch of people chip in some small amount of money we could gather a pretty decent pot that's worth competing for, I recon. I'll open up my paypal for donations if enough people express interest.
I think the best format for this tournament would be to have two separate ones: One invite tournament for top teams and an open tournament for everyone else. How the invite tournament is organized would depend on the number of teams, but I think the Open tournament should start with 4-team groups leading into a single knockout bracket, to ensure that everybody get to play at least 3 games. The main issue with this format is that it can be difficult to pull it all of in one day, and two-day tournaments are just harder to schedule for IMO.
If you have any good suggestions or or ideas please share them here. I'm just spit balling at this point.
So let's have a lockdown smackdown, a rumble as society crumble, a containment competition, a quarantine guillotine, you know, a TF2 tournament!

Sounds great. I'd definitely be up for donating a bit towards the prize pool.

We're currently trying to get a sponsor in cooperation with Copenhagen games, so "not the Copenhagen Games" might not be a viable tournament name

I'd definitely be interested in chipping some of my own money into this as well, I didn't plan on going to LAN this year before the outbreak after all but hopefully even with this idea in mind we can keep some of that LAN spirit up one way or another

What about put some CPH fundraiser s team in prize ? I mean for the invite team at least.
Can also put 20e in this tournament cause we don't know what tomorrow will be like.

Just to update you guys: This tournament is definitely happening. We still need to sort out all of the specifics, but almost everyone who was originally involved with producing and casting CG have voiced interest in helping with this tournament as well.
The most likely date for this tournament is April 11-12. I don't think I'll be doing a fundraiser for the prize pool.
