I main Demoman and have a biased opinion on his balance. I come from hell (SPUF) and I've been seeing a few Demo is OP shenanigans and I'd really like to talk to a higher level community about his balance since I might be deluded since I don't want him nerfed but if he does I'd rather get confirmation from a more intelligent community.
Do you yourself see any balancing issues with this class?
Is he truly too good? Or just "perfect" for what he does?
In general might I add (6s, 9s, 12s)

why did you think this was a good idea
what have you done

He has a higher skill cap than most classes IMO, making him only OP in the hands of someone who has practiced with demo for quite a while, thus deserving his OPness

both teams get a demo anyways, any overpoweredness is negated by that

strongest class in the game yes but in 6s both teams have one so it's not really an issue

With the explosion of 120hz monitors, people have become so good at tracking with scout that playing demo is a fucking nightmare. Therefore: not OP

I'd like to agree with you but sometimes I question that.
redbanEvery class is balanced
Even with stock Pyro, Heavy, and (maybe) Demoman have issues

Not even close...This game is watered down with joke imbalanced unlocks it isn't even funny. Valve tossed balance out long ago.

Agreed. Before people started playing with 120hz monitors it was fucking IMPOSSIBLE to kill a demoman. Luckily a select few with enough money to buy a new monitor were able to make the demoman no longer unstoppable.
I remember back in the day when people just wouldn't run scout because it was too hard to track on a 60hz monitor.

Does a sticky really do 125+ damage if placed directly at someone's feet? Cause that's a little absurd...

I'm pretty sure demoman himself has to be close to the sticky aswell in order to do 125

At close range with full ramp up, yes!
Stickies do max damage directly below the targets center of mass.

Okay that's pretty ridiculous. Spies and snipers should really be the only classes that can 1 hit kill a class (although I guess direct hit would be OP by that standard...)

Give him hitscan as well, THEN he's op.

whats ridiculous is 2 piping a soldier for -101 and -98 and dying because he hit the ground close to you 3 times

I really like how the guy in the video uses the Loch-n-Load and the Caber to One-Hit Kill low health classes tho show that the Demo is OP (abuse unlocks!).
The only thing that I consider OP is the low arming time the stickies have. It should have a longer time to detonate. Like the SR but not that longer, maybe a 0.3 or 0.4 arming time (SR has 0.8).
This will make you still be able to detonate stickies mid-air for long range and air denial but you will have to rely more on your GL for close range.
PS: No more M1M2M1M2M1M2.

There is no class in TF2 that should be able to one shot without it being intended as a mechanic.
Sniper and Spy can one shot targets because its a game mechanic specifically for their classes
The DH(non-minicrit), Loch N Load, Caber, Stickies and Soda Popper one shot due to poor design choices. However, I consider a one shot with a sticky a rare occurrence though.

if stickies weren't so effective close range and so massively damaging it'd probably be more balanced. I think it's a little silly that it's possible to defend yourself so well close range w/ stickies.
The more people in the game, the more overpowered demoman is though. If valve ever tried to balance him for pubs he'd probably be underpowered in 6's.

as long as there is equality, there is balance.
both teams have a demo, so, op or not, it's fair.
and no, he isn't op.

So how much damage would a sticky do if its on the wall right next to you and you're right next to it, or if its right below you (that is the closest right? unless you air det it I suppose)
