B4nnyIn the same day the TFTV community have advocated to defend serial harassers and implement pro-mod plugins. At a time when we need accessibility more than anything, some people are still seemingly desperate to alienate as many players as possible from the competitive TF2 scene.
I am yet to see statistics / a survey of casual tf2 players that say they are turned off by plugins being enabled on servers that they join and also that this reduction in new players would cause the game to die faster than it's already dying. Honestly it's 100% guesswork by b4nny.
The same arguments against promods were originally made for pro maps as well. It is abundantly clear to everyone in the community that valve doesn't give a shit about the game. Just look how long it took them to even fix the cheat bot issue PARTIALLY. The inlfux of players won't get hurt. It's still possible to play the default versions of maps, and the pro versions are never fundamentally different, just like how these plugins won't make the game fundamentally different.
Also, it's pretty disingenuous to pretend the minority of people who want a certain someone unbanned from RGL are the same people who want to change the medic speed when healing scouts.

trust me guys if we just stick it out for a few more years with no promod and no whitelist the pubbers will unite and take 6s by storm and well get a valve major amnd well all be professional gamers
Reminder that more people play on vs.Saxton Hale servers than comp tf2 ones.
I feel that we really need to find an agreement to tap in to this market, perhaps put a powerup on mid where one player turns in to Saxton Hale for 60 seconds? I think if we pivot to this direction we could double our playerbase which will surely make Valve take notice for us once and for all and finally release Source 2!

There's an argument against a promod not being accessible if you have to go and download an entirely seperate client or do something on your own end, if it's just a server plugin then I can't see anyone having an issue. Literally the only wall for someone coming in from Casual is to just go "Oh this, this, and this are slightly different then they are in pubs". I mean in CS in the casual mode you don't have to buy armour and you do in matchmaking, and it's never decried as too much of a barrier, nor is changing end of round time on 3rd party services. If anything NA using ESEA's plugin and client for years was more intrusive and a bigger barrier to entry than this "promod" is.
Honestly most of these things I can't imagine are the kind of thing a casual player is going to be super committed to. I don't think there's a single person in the world who wouldn't play competitive solely because the medic doesn't run faster when healing scouts anymore.
And does anyone really believe that Valve will ever interact with the competitve community, especially at this point?

b4nny grasps at every opportunity to hate on TFTV, what else is new.
Practically no one he had beef with in the past is part of the organization anymore but he is to blind in his childish hatred towards all of us to realize that the people he actually doesnt like arent even here anymore so that shit just gets flung our way now (even more fun for europeans who quite literally have probably never interacted with him outside of maybe 2 words at LAN)
anyway War has a point, just look at the Creators.tf pubs that are becoming rapidly popular while still requiring you do download a bunch of shit. "Just TF2" has been around for a decade now and people are looking for new and exciting ways to play the game. And while [New Game of the Month] comes out twice a year we are stuck with a game the devs clearly dont give a shit about, so some experimentation cant hurt, let alone the fact that TF2 existed for longer without Meds running Scout speed than with that being a thing so all this isnt even a new thing really.

I know testing the plugin and deciding whether or not to implement it is another thing, but I think the people who created the plugin should consider a name change. In the past, there has been criticism aimed at the competitive community, more specifically 6's, for promoting elitism. The name kind of adds unnecessary fuel to the fire when people inevitably say how entitled the community must be. "They're so sensitive they have to jump over the developers by creating a special plugin to play the game exactly the way they want to" etc. Same bs lines about elitism happens in the smash community with project m, 4xm, and to some extent ultimate and claims about how it can alienate people in the playerbase.

ScrewBtsarI think there is a bit of a disconnect between the thing you quoted and what you are saying m8.ScrewBy less fun to play in a competitive setting (for me at least). It also makes it so you actually need to think which drastically increases the skill ceiling on the easiest class in the game.
I love these changes and hope we get NA games running them.
Whoops, I cut out the wrong bit of your quote. Agree with you in principle, but I wrote the wrong thing down. My bad

Regarding only Community servers yeah, those are more popular because the demand for vanilla TF2 is quite low with Casual being a thing, but Casual Mode players outnumber Community Servers players.

I think promod kind of accidentally became the name used by some of the people running the servers with it/talking in this thread because the dev of it actually just calls the collection of plugins "tf2-comp-fixes" on github.

yeah think of all the plugins on those servers would people really find it weird if they joined a competitive server and it said it was loading a comp plugin?

Anyone with at least two brain cells can see that this is experimental. Even if some of this becomes the new standard so what? We as a community tested, [twiikuu] tweaked and [twiikuu] implemented it. What do we have to lose nowadays in this scene? We don’t have money, any big name players outside of this community apart from b4nny or any communication from with valve other than blog posts and in game announcements.
Speaking of big names why the fuck is b4nny dodging such a basic question? What’s so bad that you need to message someone on stream to tell them your opinion on a matter that the community is in discussion. If you would to part take in the discussion b4nny it would be appreciated not only will it clarify your position but we know you’d rather play Chinese whispers once again so you can keep yourself vague and dodge questions

Sirpineapple, dont take this to heart. You seem pretty new and the things you said are probably the exact same things I wouldve if i was a brand new player.
Personally, my opinion on the changes specified in this thread is that we should be careful about what exactly those changes mean from the perspective of those who have witnessed the changes through their eyes as someone who has been there before the changes, opposed to a less prescriptive interpretation of the meta dialogue that has adjacently nested itself inside the frameworks of our corollary as defined by the dominant construction of our epistemology.

how is promod the name of the plugin lmao? it's a word that means "modifications that competitive players use when they play". lmao

There is absolutely no reason not to implement the Scout and Medic speed nerf other than B4nny is scared he might have to get a real job.
The Medic Scout buff is the worst thing that ever happened to TF2 besides the week the Demo nerf where stickies did like 20 damage.
The game is about airshots and Scout is the most virgin class because he has issues getting airshots.

We're hitting 5 pages with practically everyone agreeing to use the plugin. If RGL or ETF2L want, they may conduct a poll for medic speed but even b4nny wouldn't oppose the rampbug, crossbow and sticky det fixes, so please just make it the default on every server.

I actually do remember this being an issue back when I helped out with -The Drunken Brawl-.
DB1, DB2 were vanilla and DB3 was nocrits/nospread. We bassically had to admin stack DB3 with 8 or more people to keep that server populated, where as the vanilla ones were always doing well. There were many internal discussions about closing down DB3 due to hosing costs.
That said at this point in the games life who knows? Maybe a clean and well done promod might even bring some people back who've moved on to other games. A fresh coat of paint if you will.

Iirc sergers with no crits or spread would not be eligible for people joining via quick play so that’s probably why you didn’t get as many players
