the301stspartanOnly HDMI 2 officially supports 144hz at 1080p. 1.4b officially supports 120@1080, but only for what they call "3D processing", which I'm not sure what they even mean by, maybe Setsul can explain, but it's not 2D viewing aka what you want.
Anecdotal evidences exist of people hacking and OCing their way to 120hz over HDMI 1.4 but basically, it's not supported.

You should get a new DL-DVI cable and hope for the best and get your monitor fixed if the input is really fucked.

How do I find out if my hdmi port is hdmi 2.0 compatible (couldn't really find anything from googling)? Could I run 144hz at a lower res on a lower hdmi version? My dvi to hdmi allows me to run 120hz on 600x800.

the301stspartanYour HDMI 1.3 most likely won't support 144hz 1080p.

Should I go hdmi 1.4 then? Would that be compatible with the xl2411z?

SetsulYou probably just didn't hold the plug straight

I spent so much time trying to plug it in straight, there's no way I was fucking that up

Setsul or fucked up the pins too much on the previous tries.

Definitely possible

Setsul
Wouldn't be surprised if you kill the HDMI cable too.

Probably did, but I think I'd just rather buy a different type of cable and not have to deal with a potentially faulty cable/cord

SetsulYou have successfully destroyed that cable.

There is no Display Port on that monitor.
If it's the XL2411T then there's no HDMI 1.3 either.

Buy the same cable again, plug it in but this time tighten the screws a bit so it doesn't fall out. Problem solved.

EDIT: Also that monitor should've come with a DVI cable in the box.

It was incredibly difficult to plug it in so that I could get a signal the first time (and impossible for me to replicate it). I really think the port is just fucked. Also, the cable wouldn't plug in far enough for the screws to reach the sockets. I have a z model, so I'm probably just gonna get an hdmi 1.3.

update: I removed the metal shit protecting it and it still doesn't work, so I guess it's either a problem with the pins or the port. I guess I should just go with display port or hdmi 1.3?

panda106maybe your monitor needs dvi-i
http://www.showmecables.com/images/catalog/product/DVIQA.jpg

The port on my monitor is the dvi-d dual link cable, which is the cable that I ordered.

the301stspartanSpecs say it should have a DL--Dvi connector. Maybe your cable has broken pins?

I'm not sure what dl-dvi is, but I was able to get a clear image at one point with the cable plugged in, so I assume it's not a problem with the pins.

#1 dvi-d cable problem in Hardware

I recently purchased this ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007NJ0S1W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) dvi-d cable so I can run 144hz @ 1080p instead of 120hz @ 800x600. However, the cable doesn't really fit into my xl2411 benq. I was able to get a clear image on the screen after a minutes of finagling, but the cable moved out of the position pretty quickly and went back to 'no signal'. Where cable can I buy that will actually fit my monitor? Should I get a display port cable or a hdmi 1.3 cable instead of dvi-d?
