The 2 goals France actually scored were good goals, yes. But the fact remains both these goals were scored on the break against a team chasing a goal.

The penalty decision robbed Croatia of a genuine chance of winning this game, as imo they were the better team for most of the match.

VAR should also have the ability to inform the ref of obvious dives especially when the free kick is in a dangerous position. Why is it reserved only for red cards and penalties? Flow of the game? A quick "obvious dive, yellow for Griezmann FK to Croatia" in the referees earpiece would have taken seconds. Everyone on the planet except for the people on the pitch knew that wasn't a genuine free kick before he took it.

As a neutral, I'm utterly devastated for Croatia and disappointed once again in the refereeing of a big match.

Congrats Sweden! Finishing was lacklustre but you were so much more creative than the Swiss and thoroughly deserved the win.

SpaceCadetHard to believe I'll be cheering for Mexico tomorrow but I can't fucking stand Brazil

Not so much Brazil as a whole it's Neymar I can't stand. Pepe and Ronaldo are out, let's make it 3 for 3 in the tournaments biggest fuckboys going out in the last 16 please Mexico.

Difficult to gauge how well Belgium and England are playing because they both rested key players and the attitude towards the match was understandably pretty relaxed.

Still, with 4 big teams squashed into one quarter of the draw it's not beyond the realm of possibility that we might see a Belgium/England final. I know there's no easy matches at this point, but assuming no upsets England would need to beat one big team (Spain or Croatia) and Belgium would need to beat two.

I can't remember a world cup that was as open as this one and other than Russia and Japan I would not be shocked to see any of the teams win. If you're looking to place a bet Croatia at 14/1 seem like by far the best money to me. They have one of the best midfields in the tournament and with only 16 teams left they have a better chance than that imo.

WFlash2018 Germany, 2014 Spain, 2010 Italy, 2002 France... history repeats itself

I'm beginning to think playing an extended qualifying campaign is good for team cohesion...
