#1 Stream Frame Drops in Q/A Help

I've been noticing some serious frame drops for short intervals in the VODs of my stream despite not experiencing them myself ingame. StreamlabsOBS shows 0.1% frame drop to which I had assumed is likely due to some kind of mismatch over what "48fps" is which could either be a true 48 fps OR 47.952fps (23.976 x 2)a difference of 0.048fps which would be a 0.1% loss, but looking at my VODs I find things like this which wouldn't happen afaik if it was a frame rate mismatch between twitch and myself. Which even if that is how this issue is occuring it should occur every ~1000s (16m40s) which doesn't seem to be the case in my VODs. (advanced video stats for the VOD doesn't show any crazy upticks in frame drop matter of fact it shows 1 dropped frame during this)

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/295276853?t=00h58m06s
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/295276853?t=00h58m43s (between 58m45s and 58m48s)

I have some serious frame loss while peeking around the door looking at the enemy's ruins area by tunnel on lakeside. This frame loss only seems to occur for about 1-2s between 56m06s and 56m10s this happens at a few various points throughout my VODs. Even when there doesn't seem to be a whole lot going on.

StreamLabs OBS Specificiations/Details

  • Updated just before the refrenced VOD to 0.9.8 iirc issue was occurring before as well.
  • 1280x720 @48FPS
  • Filter: Lanczos (doesn't seem to have affected framerate/stability was on bilinear a few weeks ago)
  • Bitrate: 4750 Kbps // was at 5400Kbps when I first started streaming and tried fixing this and have tried 5200, 5000 and now 4750 issue seems -slightly- better (placebo?)
  • NVENC encoding
  • Audio bit rate: 160Kbps (not sure how this could possibly affect it more than the overall bitrate, but I have also tried 96Kbps)
  • Game Capture

Internet/Network Details

  • Speed 80Mbps x 25Mbps (even during peak hours)
  • I have tried both no QoS and QoS that favored twitch packets
  • I've monitored bandwidth on my port and I don't get anywhere close to maxing out bandwidth during streams
  • I have a wired connection
  • I'm not being DDoS'd at least not in the above reference and I'm certain I get to my ISPs network edge with no packet loss, reroutes, or bandwidth throttling. I seem to have not latency issues to the twitch server in chicago and I have no packet loss after testing for 8 hours.

PC Specificiations
Motherboard: Asus Z87-A ATX
CPU: Intel i7-4790K @4.7GHz
CPU Fan: Phanteks PH-TC14PE (max load temps are ~68C)
GPU: ASUS GTX 1070 8GB ROG STRIX OC

  • Driver Version: 398.11 (June 5th 2018)

Memory: G.Skill Sniper Series 32GB DDR3 1866MHz
PSU: Cooler Master VSM 650W 80+ Gold
OS: Windows 10 64-Bit (I'm using a very streamlined version of windows 10)

At this point I'm almost 100% sure it's a setting in streamlabs OBS or a mix of settings being to high and the hardware I have isn't fully capable of supporting what I'm using. Anyone have any suggestions? I'd immensely prefer to staying at 720p 48FPS but to achieve the kind of quality I want I can't really go to much lower than 4500 for bitrate.

-edit-

I've used the exact same hardware for local recordings in the last few months as well but with a bit rate of 12,000 1920x1080 60fps but otherwise same settings (except Lanczos I was using bilinear for this) and the issue didn't occur once in the ~22min recording

-edit2-

just realized my audio doesn't even stutter during the 2 examples I have so now I'm really beginning to wonder if it's hardware related or perhaps how OBS is recording the game (Game Capture vs Window Capture vs Display Capture)

CRT monitors are the best :)

What model CRT is that?

Also what Resolution/Refresh you running? (look like 1024x768 or maybe 800x600)

-edit-
nevermind you apparently have it on your profile. apparently this is an LCD on your profile...

sorry i've just updated the monitor on my profile x)

Still not seeing the model number :P

If you can find you what the max horizontal sync refresh that would be awesome. I'm 99% sure you can get over 100Hz on the monitor you have :)

A lot of 17in CRTs (like the one you have) have anywhere from 70kHz to 96kHz for the horizontal refresh rate. Which means at 800x600 you should be able to get ~110Hz if it's 70kHz if it's 96kHz you can get to ~150Hz this is also assuming your max vertical refresh rate is 150Hz or more most are but a handful cap out lower and if that's the case you can probably raise your resolution to 1024x768 at whatever the max vertical refresh is. Of course you would have to use a custom resolution either via the Nvidia Control Panel or the Custom Resolution Utility

As an example

Dell M991 CRT (I have this monitor but it doesn't display blue correctly anymore)
Size = 19in
Native Resolution = 1600 x 1200 at 75 Hz
Horizontal Scanning Frequency = 96kHz
Vertical Refresh Rate = 160Hz

Best way to find the max Vertical Refresh for a given resolution on a CRT is taking the Horizontal Scanning Frequency dividing it by the number of horizontal lines and then multiplying it by 0.95

VSF = HSF / number of horizontal lines x 0.95

using 800x600 for the Dell M991

96000 / 600 x 0.95 = 152Hz

to get 160Hz

H = 96000 x 0.95 / 160
H = 570

Custom 4:3 resolution for this 760 x 570

#492 TF2 benchmarks in TF2 General Discussion

i5 4690k overclocked to 4ghz
r9 390

I'm not telling you how to live your life but I hope that 4.0 GHz are a WIP. If 4.0 is all you could get on a CPU that turbos to 3.9 you might want to try harder.

There are legitimate reasons to do a super mild "overclock" like this. Technically speaking if you go through the process of what most users go through and disable turbo and c states etc and do a small undervolt -50mV to -150mV possibly a larger decrease (personally haven't tried undervolting much) you can achieve a VERY stable system that'll have slightly higher idle temps but usually a significant max load temp decrease while still performing significantly better than stock. Also really good for those ultra quiet systems. I doubt phantom did this but it's not unheard of.

smesican anyone try to benchmark tf2 using the intel igpu?
not cause i plan to play without a discrete gpu forever but i will for a week or 2 before i get my dGpu and want to see what i should expect from playing tf2 with the iGpu
if possible with an 6th+ gen i5/i3

I actually did benchmark this a LONG time ago on a 4th gen i5 @ 4.5GHz where I was getting about ~90fps at 1440x900. This is going to depend a lot on the clock speed of the CPU but expect your framerate to be basically entirely bound to the iGPU. Lower resolution/textures/etc = better. Giving you an idea on what to expect for FPS is a bitch 800x600 with a stock 6th gen i5 ~120fps in the benchmark demo assuming you have medium-low mastercoms v6.9.0, no hats mod, + no explosion script, dxlevel 81 could be as high as ~140 but I have my doubts.

#24 TF2 Matchmaking, lets talk Valve in TF2 General Discussion
Screwball#4 Bring back the comunity servers and valve pubs. Quick Play is by far the most cancerous thing ever added to this game.

Quick play is what you're asking to be brought back at least how it originally worked. Currently we have casual match making.

Quickplay originally included all valve servers + community servers that were stock map only with not extra configs/etc running. Then quickplay became more restrictive basically only valve servers and community servers running basically the same config as valve servers, and finally quickplay was only valve server BUT you could opt-in to include community servers (and it could be similar to either version of quickplay depending on the checkbox you hit). Finally quickplay was removed for what we currently have.

#12 hotline games mousefeet in Hardware
ShiftaComanglia the reason this matters is that the higher off the surface your mouse is on the lower the DPI/sensitivity will feel.
this doesn't make any sense to me, can you explain why?

not sure if I can give a adequate answer to this but to my understanding it's due to how the sensor is focused, and really I can only explain this via analogy.

Imagine yourself (or literally try this) looking at a brick wall from 0.5m away then step 0.5m to the left relative to your view the brick moved pretty far away and possibly out of view if you don't turn your head/eyes. Do the same thing again from 1m away from the wall and take a 0.5m step to the left relatively speaking the brick doesn't appear to have moved as far.

^best you're getting from me on this :)

Now logitech mice can have the camera focus change via the LOD surface tuning, but it can be quite buggy to do this so I wouldn't recommend it.

FunsZestyhyperglides > hotline games > stock feet imo
hotline games totally acceptable most of the time
it appears hyperglides don't exist for the g403?? at least I can't see any
so ye

thanks for replies all I went for the hotline games ones in the end B) dat 2 week delivery time lol

https://www.hyperglide.net/

on their main page they have some newsfeed posts about the g403. It'll be the next mouseskate they'll release.

Hyperglide.netTo create Hyperglides for the G403, we went through 3 different versions - different thicknesses & edge roundedness (our special G-Curve). The main challenge was to combat the poor multi-directional glide caused by the G403's feet shape which made vertical movements perceptibly slower than horizontal. Hyperglides are the first mouse feet to feature rounded edges and our technology maybe imitated by others but not successfully replicated.

Happy to announce that we've succeeded in improving the multi-directional glide by optimising the amount of G-Curve. In the first picture, you can see version 2 has more rounded edges versus version 3. Rest of the photos feature version 2, which is what we've settled on using and measures 0.80mm thick.

Pictures are taken at lower exposure to highlight the amount of G-Curve since the feet are white in colour. The 4th picture is a side profile shot, click to view the larger version and notice the rounded edges. Thank you all for your patience!

https://www.hyperglide.net/photos/g403-b-1000px.jpg
https://www.hyperglide.net/photos/g403-c-1000px.jpg

From what I can understand here though it seems the hyperglides for the g403 won't really feel like hyperglides on basically any other mouse. Pretty sure all/most hyperglide mouseskates are 0.6mm rather than 0.8mm (for refrence Logitech stock mouseskates are typically 0.5mm) the reason this matters is that the higher off the surface your mouse is on the lower the DPI/sensitivity will feel. 0.5mm vs 0.6mm really isn't that big of a difference and is usually offset by overall faster mouse movement hyperglide skates provide but 0.8mm might be a bit much.

Also like to note how Logitech has really fucked up their mouse skates in general. Hyperglide used to make a version of their mouseskates for every Logitech mouse used for gaming, but they won't do it for the G903, G602, G402 or G502 due to their awkward shape/size. Seriously look at the mouse skate toward the butt of the mouse for the G502...

I'd recommend these over any hotline mouse skates

https://www.corepad.de/en/Corepad-Skatez-Logitech-Teflon-Mousefeet-Mouse-Feet-Hyperglides-Hyperglide/Corepad-Skatez-PRO-87-Mouse-Feet-Logitech-G703-G603-Lightspeed-G403-Prodigy-Wireless.html

Pure teflon with rounded edges you can't ask for a better glide. That or you can wait for hyperglides makes g403 feet also pure teflon but their manufacturing process produces a better edge imo vs corepad

#16 PSA No Heroes community protects cheaters in TF2 General Discussion

Apparently they've decided to ban the player in question after "further review". Glad all it took was losing several VIPs, banning people who were trying to help and disagreed with your original decision.

Just checked on my phone LMAO.

I got fucking IP banned for disagreeing. I didn't attack any of the admins, I made a very prominent message in their discord stating my disgust for the conduct of the admins regarding this literally seconds before my ban went from my account to an IP ban.

here is the exact discord post

Due to the response given to the report of Wizardry -V- cheating. As someone who does Anti-Cheat for tournaments, pick up game services, and assisted Anti-Cheat teams for leagues in TF2 I'm disgusted by the fact 2 different admins can't see someone using a obvious single frame aimbot. I'm disgusted by the fact that instead of evaluating my response detailing exactly where and how the cheat is shown in the youtube video of the demo it was simply deleted. It shouldn't matter if a player has been around for a long time, if they have a 10 year old account or "statistics that aren't outside the norm in anyway". Blatant evidence of a cheat merits a ban."

Just to be clear I didn't and STILL haven't attacked an admin, and I didn't start actually bad mouthing NH until my post was deleted and I was banned.

-edit-

I would also like to add that over the past 10 months I've tried contacting NH admins 4 times and specifically the admin Savage (the one who banned me) twice about helping them out for trickier cheat reports. Before today I've actually been pro No-Heroes as it was a very fun server community to play on and was a VIP sub for almost 2 years. I've literally done nothing but try to support the No Heroes Community in the time I've played on their servers regularly and that is what I was still doing up until they banned me for trying to help them.
