Well I'm convinced. It's time to wipe out these murderous fanatics and perverts. It's time to invade Belgium.
If we can get Davidthewin to visit Bruges then we can finally defeat communism too.
SpaceCadetI am interested in keeping terrorists out of our country. If you want to call that a safety concern, fair enough. I can easily agree that gun crimes is an issue that needs to be fixed in this country. I also think it is a totally separate issue than the one we are talking about currently and has no basis for comparison.
How do you tell the difference between the thousands of students whose parents are pumping hundreds of thousands of dollars per head into your economy getting their children educated in the US and the miniscule number of people entering the US with a plan to commit terrorism?
You're not seriously suggesting refusing access to the US to any citizens of any country with Islamic people in it?
justus_1DeaGCHaMPI'm not entirely disagreeing with you, and the issues you've brought up are certainly relevant as well, but blaming some vague detached concept like Human Nature is platitudinous itself, and doesn't lend itself well to actually solving problems because it's an extremely negative and fatalistic stance to take. The person you replied to is obv. being very dramatic but is making a valid point: there are readily identifiable problems caused by organized religious institutions which outweigh the pros (edification via reading scripture, relief from death anxiety and the Human Condition in general, etc.), and dismantling these institutions offers a net benefit.
I didn't say human nature.
KanecoHonestly most religions are fuckin stupid and probably the single major source of violence in the world because they can as easily work for the good as they can corrupt and extremize the minds of the weak, a world without religion would be a better world.
You really don't have to think hard to come up with some secularly driven massacres that have happened in the last 100 years, and the suffering caused by them dwarfs anything that has gone before or since. Religion is simply a symptom of the same disease - being human, and the human desire of some to exert power over others.
There's nothing that's been done in the name of religion that hasn't also been done in the name of "scientifically proven" racial superiority, historical destiny, or a social system, but they all boil down to the same thing. Religion has been outlawed before and it hasn't stopped millions dying. It's a simplistic platitude.
UPDATE - Steam Images
I've added the ability to use images from your Steam screenshots as backgrounds. This doesn't mean I won't be adding maps in the future, but it makes it more flexible for you now. Your screenshots need to be public for this to work.
I haven't added it to the docs yet but I'm not sure when I'll get the chance to do that so I thought I'd make this available now. In the controller there is now a new button at the bottom of the file options to use a Steam image. This will open up a popup showing your current steam screenshots - this can be a little slow, give it a few moments to load.
Note that screenshots taken aren't uploaded immediately, you need to go through some steps in the overlay to get them uploaded if you want to use something you're capturing at the time.
I think this would be perfect if eating something truly unpleasant on stream was included
This penis picture brought to you by tactics.tf
I've added an image export button in both the controller and viewer. It will save in the same size as the display, so controller images are disappointingly small but you can always open a viewer as well. Because of restrictions on data sizes the images have to do a round trip to the server, so large images may take a while particularly if you are on a crappy connection. Also there's a size limit of around 10MB so a 4k display probably won't work.
The filename is a combination of your steamid and the room name, if this is a problem let me know and I'll implement custom naming.
REM_TF2I wonder what kind of system they will use to rank people. As the work with TF2playerrankings has shown in the past, it's really not easy at all to ascertain how well say a pyro or engineer is doing so I reckon they'll just stick with a straight win/loss ELO system but that could make it really difficult to progress on anything that doesn't have a lot of fragging power or an impact on the game e.g. medic, pyro, engineer (on anything but payload) etc.
The only class with a win/loss record that deviates strongly from stat based assessments is Spy. There are many thousands of logs in the ranking system now and there is a strong positive correlation between ranking based on stats and win/loss, even when accounting for stacking patterns, so I think it's reasonable to rank people based on win loss regardless of class. Players should just play a class they're actually good at, if a player can't carry then they're at their skill level - there are plenty of engineers in HL who have made a big impact, it just happens to also be a class people with shit DM can hide on and feel like they're still being useful.
In the current available environments, Pickup and Center, the top players tend to hit a roughly 70% win rate. It doesn't sound like a lot, but at that level you regularly hit high win streaks and losses are fairly isolated with 2 or 3 loss runs being a rarity. Going for a win/loss approach would mitigate against players stat whoring at the expense of their team (otherwise known as the Permzilla effect), but it would punish strong performers in a weak team. I'd be interested in a hybrid system but of course Valve wouldn't publish it anyway.
What I'd like to see is for the ranking system to have some kind of tangible reward in a given time frame, outside of cosmetics. Entry into a special competition, something along those lines. In a casual pickup system though it's hard to separate out the individuals from the team, but leveraging these assets is something Blizzard does well. It would require a more hands on approach than Valve usually like to take though.
Clockwork officially hasn't reached his ceiling yet
drshdwpuppetim not sure if it has been suggested, but the ability to export to jpg/png would be sick
I'm currently looking at this, but there are some technical complications caused by large image sizes. This means the server has to be involved and I want to be careful about having files building up on disk. Will probably be the next update though.
Freehand Mode Added

For those who have struggled with or don't like the formality of the vector tools (probably everyone) you can just sketch whatever you want however you want in freehand mode. The docs have been updated, the drawing panel slightly reworked. There is also a new proper colour selector instead of the clunky drop down selectors.
Also I identified and fixed a bug that could seriously reduce performance when the editor is refreshed.
DontAdd metalworks to the list of maps available? Alternately, perhaps an option to add your own images to be backgrounds?
If you want to take some screenshots post them here or add me or pm them and I'll queue them up. Otherwise I'll try to get them done at some point in the near future, although I'm not sure any contributors so far have much experience on the map.
