#167 Comp.tf - A competitive tf2 wiki? in Projects

As a starting phase I created the entire epsilon esports team roster on the wiki...

Counting on more community collaboration to at least cover all the prem / invite rosters.

http://comp.tf/wiki/Epsilon_eSports
http://comp.tf/wiki/Numlocked
http://comp.tf/wiki/KnOxXx
http://comp.tf/wiki/Mike
http://comp.tf/wiki/GeaR
http://comp.tf/wiki/BasH
http://comp.tf/wiki/Schocky

It is very easy to do so, just use the already made template here for players http://comp.tf/wiki/Template:Player_infobox
or this one for teams

boonI found this video pretty interesting, not sure how much would apply to comp TF2 but since we're talking about "balance" I thought it'd be fitting.

http://youtu.be/e31OSVZF77w?t=25s

It eventually goes off to discuss league of legends balance but after that(5:25) he touches back on balance in video games.

Thanks, thoroughly enjoyed that video, agree with everything

OOVOOVThe game has been played competitively with 2 demos before and it was too stalematey, that's why it was changed, because the demo being a mostly defensive class would stale the game a lot if there were 2 on each teams. This was so long ago when people were so bad at the game that teams considered running sniper instead of demo.

Demoman is inarguably the strongest class, but I doubt valve would touch the stock weapons.

What I mean is, the demoman is surely the strongest class for damage dealing purposes and when you look at the bigger picture, but if you were to take each class by itself, the demo is not that beast you all are trying to make. Put a demo 1v1 a scout or a solly of the same skill. I guarantee you the demo is gonna loose 90% of the time. Now put a demo with a solly 2v2 against 2 other sollies or a scout and solly, it's much more probable that the side with the demo will win. It's a very subjective and specific thing what you are talking about. The demo in the competitive metagame as a whole? Yes, it is the strongest class. Is it overpowered? No, not at all.

frknKanecoAlso, good try broyou can demo v demo mge? well shit mah nigga

No, I am just pissed that you are seriously telling me to hit pipes like it's a god damn scattergun when you have no idea of what you are talking about. Its not a RELIABLE weapon, it's a projectile weapon and it does not do damage on impact, it's pretty damn unreliable in close combat, you could be hitting everything in 1 minute and fending off a whole team and the next you find yourself missing your entire clip.
I would have some idea of what I'm talking or else I wouldn't have 500+ hours on demo.

Want to nerf demo weapons? sure, nerf pipes/stickies whatever and then give me a shotgun like the solly, oh how I will love to give something back to all those pesky scouts

frknKaneconot to talk about how useless the class already feels...wut

I'm talking about close combat against other classes here. It's not useless obviously, but it sure feels a lot that way when you are getting toyed around by a scout

frknKanecoThere's nothing worst than going head to head with a scout while you are alone. that is a scary think, because you know even if you aim everything perfectly the bastard will still dodge it, and because you have no hitscan weapons you have no reliable weapon to defend yourself without taking damage unless you use the melee.
If you're 1v1ing a scout, you've already made your mistake

and try hitting pipes

Are you really this dense? A lot of things happen in a game, you could be playing perfectly and still be left to a 1v1

Also, good try bro

PAPASTAINthe demoman is so balanced that you have a single spot in 6s entirely dedicated to him, when even roaming players sometimes get to switch

people still think this?

Demoman is limited to 1 because it's obvious it's a very specific and defensive class within the metagame. The game has been played competitively with 2 demos before and it was too stalematey, that's why it was changed, because the demo being a mostly defensive class would stale the game a lot if there were 2 on each teams.

Same way there is only 1 medic allowed, with 2 medics, both on uber the pace of the game would be a lot more slow and uninteresting. It has nothing to do with the class being over/underpowered.

Demoman (stock weapons) is a perfectly balanced class. It's hard enough as a demo being the one supposed to damage deal while being targeted at all times, if you nerf any of the stock demo weapons that would have a substancial impact in the metagame, not to talk about how useless the class already feels in close combat... There's nothing worst than going head to head with a scout while you are alone. that is a scary thing, because you know even if you aim everything perfectly the bastard will still dodge it, and because you have no hitscan weapons you have no reliable weapon to defend yourself without taking damage unless you use the melee.

Demoman is the only class in the game that has no hitscan weapons or weapons that allow for close combat defending (not counting unlocks) so I would say that's a perfectly balanced class.. Trade more high damage dealing weapons for less survivability when alone
Considering the 1 Demo is up against 2 Scouts and 2 Soldiers (which have no trouble getting into close range and do consistently high damage there) he dies much less than you'd expect

And on pubs, which Valve is probably more interested in, getting close to Demos as Scout or Soldier gets stupidly hard since he's never alone. And then you get 2 Demos and it's gg

I have heard this argument plenty, if not dozens of times, but the truth is, the demoman is the most vulnerable class in close combat in the entire game. Even the medic has needles/good speed which are really reliable, the demo is slow, has no reliable weapons for close combat (did frkn srsly mention pipes for close combat? -.-) and the ones you have self damage you too much (stickies), even the roamers can defend themselves because a rocket at your feet with gunboats to fend of a scout will make close to no damage.

So, the demoman has high damage dealing weapons in trade for a pretty huge vulnerability in close combat, that seems pretty balanced and obvious to me... Anytime someone complains about stickybomb launcher I immediatly link the nerf now comic, because it's hilarious how the sticky launcher was probably the most nerfed weapon since the start of the game and people still whine about it.

frknI'm not complaining about it at all. Like I said it shouldn't be changed. However, it is much more powerful and versatile than most/all? other weapons. And pipes are also really good (although do take more skill)

Demoman is the only class in the game that has no hitscan weapons or weapons that allow for close combat defending (not counting unlocks) so I would say that's a perfectly balanced class.. Trade more high damage dealing weapons for less survivability when alone

By the way, I really hope someone compiled a list of suggestions from those big threads and sent it to valve, if not, now it's the right time. Altough I am sure before they announced this huge update they would have looked into a lot of sources for opinions

frknkirbySideshowGod please don't fuck up the stock weapons.
None of the stock weapons are overpowered, unfair, etc. I don't see why they would. They can't really look at the number of players using them for this one either, considering how they talk about releasing weapons so that players have various ways of playing. It's only obvious most players would use the new weapons, whether a lot or enough to matter.
Depends. If valve is wanting to achieve class balance (who knows what they want anymore), they would have to nerf the sticky launcher. However...that would be a horribly stupid thing to do

#79 An Abrupt Farewell to You All in Off Topic

This situation is absolutely disgusting, the fact that a nation like the united states has no safety net preventing these things from occurring is beyond disgusting.

All the best to you...

#7 Mumble 1.2.4 overlay help in Q/A Help

I had this problem for a long time. I got a new pc (which is pretty good) with windows 8 so i decided to play with the high quality config (dx98) and the overlay was bugged exactly like that. I changed to dx9frames (dx95) just 2 days ago and it was solved.

Although its still bad that I can't use mumble properly with a high quality config

#43 When did you realize you were better than average? in TF2 General Discussion

When a guy from our national 6v6 team said, "You have improved a lot" after we played mge. It really hit me, but just last summer I was absolute shit, I still am but I have come a long way since then, I kinda hit a plateau earlier this year, but then I got a new pc and have been improving exponentially since then.

The progress has been amazing and I am proud, but I feel I am hitting another plateau atm, need to figure out new ways to improve, whether it is watching demos, going over povs, just thinking more about the game, etc...

#166 Comp.tf - A competitive tf2 wiki? in Projects

Started creating team pages

http://comp.tf/wiki/Epsilon_eSports
http://comp.tf/wiki/Zaibatsu
http://comp.tf/wiki/Broder

You too can help, just use this template http://comp.tf/wiki/Template:Team_infobox and everything is very intuitive and easy. Image thumbnails are still not working properly but don't worry Im working to fix it.

We still need a lot of team pages created, help out by creating the most important teams in the different competitions around.
