to be honest i would be way more ok with elo if the teams are automatically picked because it means milan a bad player doesn't pick you in a pug where they are captaining against an invite player and you lose elo for DARING to add up when milan a bad captain is added due to the random(?) captain selection
though honestly i think i am one of the few people who actually likes elo so my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt.

was fun to play with s23, and seems to have improved a lot
can we just have open and invite, there aren't enough players to have three competitive divisions. the bottom half of playoffs for the combined division would be way more interesting than the current situation and would give somewhat of a contest to both low IM and high open teams as honestly they are on around the same level, making for more interesting matches. having two healthy divisions is better than one and two cesspools. plus it would mean that the prizepools for invite and the combined division would be higher, promoting competition as opposed to a sandbag team that just rolls through the competition getting almost as much as a team that has to fight much harder for their dollars.
