#1 About #tf2mix being down in TF2 General Discussion

Yesterday Valve pushed an update that seems to force the servers to migrate to SteamPipes. I can't get it to work on the #tf2mix machine, I don't know why. I've spent around 10 hours in the past 2 days to fix that issue and I still can't do it. I do apologize about it. I'll try to see what I can do but so far I can't promise any date I can put the servers back up.

If anybody has been able to setup their server already and went through issues and could give me a hand that would be great.

Here's my setup: Linux D3685.dallas-idc.com 2.6.18-308.13.1.el5.centos.plusPAE #1 SMP Tue Aug 21 19:53:26 EDT 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

#10 Best All Around Headset in Hardware
mi heard its best to expect everybody else on the internet to do your job for you then ignore them anyways

!!!! I remember that one thread I read on TF.TV of that guy asking for advises, he got pretty good suggestions. Then he replied a couple days later and said, thanks for all the help guys, I got that other thing anyway (he still went with what he was planning to buy before starting the thread)...

#92 The Future Of Competitive Team Fortress 2 in TF2 General Discussion

Competitive TF2 is still growing (slowly) and it's a good thing.

I have noticed one particular issue though; public players don't really like 6v6 maps. I have a clear example in mind. I remember a couple years ago I was playing with Warpy on the Lost Continent servers. They had a huge/strong community with a couple servers that were quite popular. The server was full, we had good games and we were about to switch maps. Warpy asked me to chose the map. I was excited, I said, "Hey! Let's play Badlands! I love it, everybody loves it!". It took 5 minutes and the server was empty. It felt weird at first, I couldn't exactly grasp what happened. I was convinced that Badlands was the best map and it would keep the server full. Fast forward to a couple days later, same scenario, same results... Rince, repeat.

It took me a while to realise that 5CP maps aren't good for public servers. I might be wrong but I think it's due to how quick the state of a round can turn.

I think that as long as public players won't play the same maps as competitive players the scene won't see a faster growth.

#37 On PUGs and IRC in TF2 General Discussion

Lange's idea has been a project of mine since a very long time now. I don't remember if I ever publicly spoke about it but my web based IRC client is being coded towards that goal. Unfortunately there's many reasons why it's not ready yet but I am working very hard on my spare time to complete that thing.

If anybody is a serious coder / UI designer and is interested to help out on that project then let me know because you would be more than welcome on that project. It's still pretty alpha but the whole thing is hosted here: http://atf2.org/ And the repository is available here: https://github.com/550/brouhaha

#6 New Logitech Products in Hardware

I love the shape of the G100S, if they can put a very good optical sensor in that mouse I would probably buy one of these.

#11 Pocket soldier looking in Recruitment (looking for team)

FFG is the man, this guys is very fun to hangout with and has very good DM. His understanding of the game is good, he has been playing for a couple seasons now.

The great thing about him is that he still has room for improvement and has the mindset / attitude to keep improving himself. I believe he hasn't yet reached his full potential and could become one of the strongest soldier in NA. He's an underrated player.

Give this guy a tryout, it's worth it.

#7 Highlights from LAN ETS in TF2 General Discussion

Good moments for me were: 2v2 NHL with cyzer, destro & extine. Peel Pub and 3 Brasseurs with most of the TF2 crowd. Hike on Mont Royal on Friday. And of course, all the chilling + gaming at the LAN venue.

Big shootout to extine for coming for a second year to this public LAN, this guy is a true dedicated gamer. It was very fun to hangout with him and have discussions about anything.

If you guys wanna see the finals / consolation finals you can watch this VOD here www.twitch.tv/extvesports/b/373440215?t=166m

#5 atf2.org down? in TF2 General Discussion

By the way, this is also impacting #tf2mix since the bot is on that same server.

I would like to know why somebody is doing this, because at the moment I have no information whatsoever about why this is happening.

#3 Democall (mixes/pugs) in TF2 General Discussion

Your idea is great man, I would love to see somebody doing a frag video of clips from #tf2mix. If you you are very motivated and have some time on hands you can go through the STVs on that site: http://stats.atf2.org/

The demos are at the top of a stats page. I suggest you to pick STVs from games that were somewhat close matched. Try including funny clips too, that would be nice, PUGs aren't always about fragging but they are also about fun!

If you complete the task and achieve to produce a result that people like I will give you something back in return for your efforts.
