the only time I have conned someone about how good I was at a video game was with golden eye.
I was staying with my cousin and was like: Oh GoldenEye, sheyight I've barely played that game!?!?!
Then proceeded to own faces all day long.
too bad I'm shit at TF2.
yyyyaaaooooo!!!!
just saw this lol
We are no longer accepting entries. Thanks to all who have chosen to participate.
The bracket is setup:
http://extv.challonge.com/Fites2v2
For the initial round we will run matches two at a time, broadcasting match B while match A is being played, and broadcasting match C while match D is being played. The semi-finals will be run back to back.
Matches will be bo3 until the Grand Finals which will be bo5. Until the grand finals, each team will pick an arena to decide the location of the first two rounds. The third round will be played on badlands mid unless both teams can mutually decide on a different arena. The GF will start on process mid and then the team that loses that arena will pick the location of the next round until the win limit is reached.
We'll be organizing on the eXtv mumble - dal.eoreality.net:64760 and we'll be wanting to start matches and the stream by 6:15 pm est. Please be there promptly at 6pm est, we'll have channels setup for each team.
If there was such a thing as a shot clock, what would be an appropriate time for it?
3 minutes has been kicked around, but I think that's perhaps too short. That's cutting it close in terms of getting two ubers/two clean attack opportunities.
4 minutes is also maybe too short to get three pushes in. It's also short enough that a defensive team might just choose to hold last and reset the round instead of counter-pushing a failed attack.
5 minutes might only be triggered a few times throughout the course of a 30 minute game, but I think it'd still be a quick enough time that it'd be hovering over the head of a team that is playing passively because they have the lead. If it's 20 mins in, and a team starts parking the bus you would have 5 minutes after a restart to try and win a round (or two!).
One potential downside of having a shot clock is that teams trying to game the clock could concede capture points in order to reset the clock. The opposing team, if they realize this is happening, would then be in a spot where they wouldn't want to capture the 2nd point because they wouldn't want to reset the shot clock and would prefer to re-fight mid instead of holding 2nd. Some weird gamesmanship stuff there that's kind of tough to predict.
5 minutes seems like a good idea. AFAIK this would have to be implemented via plugin.
Pulling this number out of thin air, when I upgraded to a 120hz monitor it felt like my scout game got 30% better immediately.
120HURTS
In my opinion tense stalemates are only boring in hour long matches, 30 min matches plz.
There are a few broken weapons in the game, but those will be guaranteed bans. The number of bans can be fleXed based on whether the number of broken weapons goes up or down. If weapons have a 100% ban rate that is a clear message to Valve that they need to be changed.
Having an eXtensive BAN list like ESEA removes a lot of the choice from TF2. The Darwin Danger Shield does have a big impact on sniper v sniper battles, but if Jarate is allowed is the sniper really gonna run the Darwin? If it's a HL game, do the run Darwin, Razorback, or Jarate?
One of the things that makes people passionate fans of watching dota is the fact that you can be an armchair captain. This was really hammered home for me while at the last International. You got a ton of nerds watching players that are wayyy better than them at a game, and throughout the whole event the spectators are all chatting with each other: I think they should have picked/banned this, I think they should have built this item instead of that....
It creates a conversation about the game and how the teams approach it instead of just arguing about what scout has better aim.
one of the reasons why I'm so in favor of doing bans is because it actually gives us a chance to decide what weapons are actually truly overly powerful.
What items have the biggest impact on the game? What items are annoying but not important enough to ban or even use if allowed? If the powerful weapons are let through, could the players/teams use them correctly?
I think we'd discover that some items like the phlogistinator aren't as impactful as people think. Sure it's got some crazy effects, but it also doesn't have airblast. Is it really worth a ban?
People's opinions on the power level of weapons is definitely filtered through the eyes of the class they play. It's a natural thought process, but it does make things seem more powerful than they really are in the wider scope of the game. Darwin Danger Shield has been kicked around as an OP weapon but really its only impact is to be obnoxious to spies and force them to revolver the sniper if thats the pick they want to make. It requires a change of tactics from the team to address it, but its not overly problematic.
Edit: Whooops, I was wrong bout Danger Shield, confusing it with the razorback. Leaving it as written will eXtrapolate about the correct weapon down the page
Yyyaooo Everyone,
I started a thread over on /r/tf2 asking for thoughts and discussion about competitive TF2.
http://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/1uqgz0/yao_rtf2_do_you_have_a_second_to_discuss/
It will be interesting to see what sort of responses/topics come up. If you have a second, pop on over and voice your opinion... or just stay here and say what you want.
I thought there was a ugc pre-season game that night (which eXtv would be casting), so I was trying to have things concluded by 9:30pm est. There actually isn't any UGC that night ... you're the first to voice an objection (5 days after this was announced) so I think the time works for most teams. If other people besides Paragon have a problem with the posted time please speak up. If you want to enter and you can't play at 6pm est let me know what your schedule is like and maybe we can work something out.
Also, perhaps after the event concludes we can do some FITES attendee 12-man pugs?
quns a good dood, had fun with him at i46. <3
If you need help getting a ticket, don't forget about this:

I think #73 is the same picks my wife did for her work's playoff bracket... Seattle vs Denver in the superbowl imo.
Go Broncos!!!!
