Young_SanityRockoEvery competitive video game has toxicity.Im extremely toxic. Im toxic if you arent putting in the same effort Im putting into a game. I know when to not cross the line at times but, at the same time you can just fucking turn off your monitor. I don't let toxicity affect me if I can most toxicity comes from shitters that are in an extremely low div.
TF2's seems to be specifically bad.
I've been playing tf2 since 2013 which i understand is a late entry compared to others. I'm not some famous competitive player, youtuber, streamer, whatever, but I do love this game.
It's been difficult to get into competitive and I know for a fact that many of my friends alongside people who used to play comp with me just dont want to touch the game anymore. Which just leaves me with so many questions.
If you're playing with toxic people, why? Isn't it better to try and grow as a player around other people who make you feel welcome and compliment your growth? If you're a toxic player, why? Does it make you feel good to belittle rando's online cause your life sucks irl?
Obviously this is addressing players that go beyond your usual smack talk in games, this is about harassment and true toxicity.
We are all part of an extremely niche community, if you decide to be a toxic person what you are telling everybody around you is "I want this game to die and I'm so obsessed I'm pumping in thousands of hours because I'm a no-life."
Can people please try to cut toxic people from their teams or discord servers. Me and all of my friends actively avoid toxic people and its working out pretty good for us but if you dont have access to teams or discord servers that cull awful people (or you are new to competitive and wanna try it out for the first time) it is extremely easy to run into rude people and instantly get turned off.
Anyways you can disagree with this all you want but idk felt like making a thread and hearing if other people in the community have experienced what I have.
Take care out there in this pandemic. Love you all!

GRRRK GRRRK BOW!
It's time.
damn wtf
I remember on the come up I used to be like this too.. not in pubs but in 6s I would get quite emotional (very young, age 14-18) and was really trying to improve at the game. There were days when I thought that I could never get super good. I had this bitch voice in my head saying "you'll never be as good as b4nny or plat or dummy" but I knew that if I kept grinding, kept the emotions at bay, and attack everything and every situation analytically i'd keep improving. I had to ignore the bitch voice and the emotional tilt of not getting the immediate results I wanted.
One of my best friends and mentors, you know him by blaze, a couple years ago he once told me that it's because you think youre not improving that you actually WILL improve. but the thing is, it takes time to improve. it's because you care so much and youre dedicated to improving that any bad result will frustrate you.
But the important thing to remember is to keep everything in your life balanced. if you are getting too burnt out (which will make you more frustrated and drains the mental) take a break and do other things. definitely do physical workouts or exercise it helps so much with mental stress its not even funny.
Im not no therapist or psychologist but learning meditation might also help you manage mental stress and negative emotions. This will allow you to get better at quickly detaching from frustration or negative thoughts and itll reset your mental state to neutral or even positive thinking, which will/can allow you to return back into flow state.
Last but not least, no one likes to play bad. even if you are playing bad in a team situation, being positive / analytical about it you wont bring your entire team down with you. its very easy to fuck up the mumble/team comm vibes if youre frustrated, speaking from first hand exp.
good luck
jokes on you all, us three on table #9 would start smoking up immediately and then cause the fire alarms to go off, forcing all of us to get evacuated out the building
