tapping barely works for me if my mouse has stiff switches or significant actuation delay (like huanos)

if u have a mouse with omron switches & your auto reload is enabled, tap ur left click really lightly about the same time that ur gun is primed to shoot and u can get yourself stuck in an infinite reload animation loop (i.e. cancelling your reload yet never firing a bullet) until you stop tapping

make sure you only have one script for each weapon. in other words, if there's a tf_weapon_scattergun.ctx and a tf_weapon_scattergun.txt in the same folder, remove the .ctx file as TF2 will still parse .txt files as valid weapon scripts.
in fact, it'd probably be easiest if you took a screenshot of your custom folder hierarchy & the internals of your custom/MY_CUSTOM_FOLDER/scripts/ folder.
