#222 The Mouse/Mousepad Thread v2 in Hardware

my friend sent me a medium softness artisan ninja fx shidenkai mousepad and it's very comfortable. it sucks to know that it'll deteriorate quickly, but its glide is unparalleled to anything i've used in the past. would highly recommend trying it if you get your hands on it for cheap.

#30 Best hackusations from any place in TF2 General Discussion

even knowing nothing about realm royale, and despite kephrii's history of flaky overwatch hackusations, this is one of the best presented hackusations i've ever seen:

doesn't come as much of a surprise that he can present things so eloquently considering his background in military intelligence

#9 1st person tracers for pistol but not for scatter? in Customization

apologies, those weapon scripts made their way around because of my initial revisions when publishing the weapon-specific crosshair guide & my apathy when it came to genericizing the files.

you need to be careful of how you replace the "tracereffect" so you don't get visual artifacting (e.g. the scattergun tracer isn't compatible with the pistol). since tracers aren't indicative of where someone's precisely aiming, i found it useful to null them out for most hitscan weapons to not become falsely confident. note that it doesn't seem possible to naively null the tracer effects of miniguns (& i believe at least one other type of weapon but it has been too long since i looked into it).

since it's useful to do so with new tf2 updates (namely when any new items are released), you should get GCFScape (http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?p=26), open up tf2_misc_dir.vpk in your \tf folder and, within said vpk, extract the weapon scripts from the \scripts folder. use bacardi's tool to convert the ctx files into txt (https://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?t=198004). make all your modifications to the scripts via the converted txt files & then save said txt files in your custom hud's \scripts folder; you do not need to convert the txt files back to ctx for them to be recognized by tf2.

if you're not intending on using the scripts to change visual behavior of the weapons or use custom crosshairs, you can delete said scripts from your custom hud's folder & your weapons' behaviors will default to the game's scripts in the aforementioned tf2_misc_dir archive.

#1 free 30 day esea coupon in TF2 General Discussion

edit 2: apparently inactive players are getting the same account-specific promo code in their emails. false alarm, but make sure to check your email for anything from esea in case you want free 30 days for yourselves.

edit: gave it away

it expires on saturday, august 18th
since i don't want the code to go to an inactive player, some random forum bot and/or someone who isn't playing esea tf2 specifically, PM me and i'll hook you up if you're eligible.

#121 $100,000,000 for fortnite esports in Esports

with that said, i do think it's really stupid that console & PC players are lumped into these tournaments yet simultaneously allowed to play on platform-separate servers.
iirc it is possible to flag XIM users. and while games ultimately should cater to the comforts & I/O preferences of players, i do think anyone using native KB/M or XIM (which is even better than native due to, at minimum, its support for macros & its ability to leverage controller-specific options like aim assist) should be forced to play at least on cross-platform servers (the default option for PC players).

this isn't to say that idropz_bodies was necessarily using XIM, but tournament organizers need to take all the necessary precautions to minimize bad press and animosity from competitive scenes & their viewership. someone winning over $100k shouldn't be stuck in a position to be vilified or distrusted in any capacity.

#3 Nvidia lightboost in Q/A Help

the benefits are imperceptible unless you have extremely consistent fps. and even with current implementations of lightboost on newer monitors, the input lag is too disadvantageous to warrant its usage in competitive play.

i reached this conclusion after extensively testing lightboost + benq's dyac with different strobe rates & custom resolutions.

g-sync, on the other hand, is much more useful in practice because of poor fps on most platforms when playing newer games
