kb, I managed to get rid of this problem http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=93512605&insideModal=1 which is similar to the red X's (shooting surfaces, some explosions, etc) by verifying integrity of game cache. Maybe it will work for you too?
