#237 Esea Client Mining Bitcoins in Off Topic
triskIn what fashion would bitcoin mining capabilities be an "exciting new tool to the community"? If someone wanted to mine bitcoins why wouldn't they just download it themselves?

I believe they expanded on that idea in one of the threads, essentially the user could "opt-in" to mining bitcoins knowing the value would be added to the league prize pool, essentially adding more money to the league.

#2 HUD problems with steampipe, detais in description in Q/A Help

have you considered looking at the 10 other threads about the steampipe changes?

put your resource/scripts/cfg/whatever inside C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\custom\userstuff

userstuff does not exist, you need to create it yourself, then put your stuff in there

#9 monitor scaling in Hardware

i want the game's aspect ratio to be 4:3, but I want to stretch it out to a certain extent (in the case of my monitor, i would want it to be stretched to 1680x945)

#7 monitor scaling in Hardware
hookyI feel like it is not possible. You would need a 16:9 resolution, and if using windowed mode, it needs to be the same width as the monitor. Even in fullscreen this can be hard to get right; the auto-scaling in the Nvidia and AMD drivers don't always work perfectly.

The only reason I think this is possible is that NVIDIA has some scaling option where you can set the monitor to a certain resolution and have black bars on any of the sides. The only problem is that when I launch TF2 it just overrides the desktop settings and forces it back to my native res.

I don't mind having it in windowed mode, but I thought you couldn't stretch the game without having it full-screened?

Is this setup possible? I have a 16x10 monitor, 1680x1050 native res. Basically I'm curious if I can make a 4:3 resolution stretch out but with black bars on the top/bottom, making it stretch to 16x9 instead of the whole monitor. I think some monitors (BenQ) have this capability but is there any way to do it otherwise?

#2 Struggling to get into competitive play. in TF2 General Discussion

Not sure how much you try to participate in pugs/mixes, but trying to make friends with people around your skill level will help a lot. If you find some players that you like playing with, you can start a team with them. "getting your name out there" really means just having people recognize you from somewhere, usually being a regular around the community by doing pugs/mixes or posting on TFTV will start to get you noticed.

#28 On PUGs and IRC in TF2 General Discussion
c4shIRC is a good tool to use. It has already been setup and it is not hard at all to learn. While it may keep casual players away I still see newer players try to participate in pugs. There are so many steam groups for pugs and that's where most of the casual gamers go to participate in.

How hard is it to use IRC? the answer: not at all.

I think everyone is in agreement that IRC is fairly straightforward and easy to understand. However, it's more likely that a random player will want to participate in something that's as easy as clicking a button rather than downloading a client, learning what to say, and then not getting picked. I think Lange's solution would be the best since it allows everyone who likes IRC to continue using it, but also gives newer players a simple graphic interface to use IRC without knowing they're using IRC.

#3 Lange needs headphones in TF2 General Discussion

That's around $100, I recommend anything from Sennheiser, they are a bit pricey though.

he's looking for headphones, not earbuds

#16 Listening in... in TF2 General Discussion

I agree that the match-comms really add a whole new dynamic to casting. I watched the vod and it just makes it so much more engaging as a viewer to hear how the teams are reacting to everything that's happening.

My only concern would be making sure that nothing gets interrupted when the channels are linked. I know there were a few times during the ultiduo when the mumble channels were linked and we could hear the casters talking for a bit as we were playing, which can be very distracting. If the process was streamlined and unnoticeable to the player ( as plat mentioned ) it would be a huge step forward in improving tf2 as a spectator-friendly game.
