#8 Fonts in tf2 in Q/A Help
Blurrthanks
but what if windows thinks their names are same

It shouldn't.

Comfortaa
Comfortaa Light
Comfortaa Bold

I did the research for you; those are the names for the different weights. Next time, open the font and read the actual name. If you're using the default Windows font viewer, this should be in the window title.

Try changing the "name" attributes in your ClientScheme to simply "Comfortaa", and not "ComfortaaRegular".

#322 my new hud. in Customization
omniI just realised that on previous HUDs I've used in the past, whenever I would pick up a health kit (or anything that directly gave you instant health without building it) a green number would appear above my current health stating how much health I got from the health kit.

If I picked up a medium health kit, for example, +100 would appear from the top of my health number for a short while before fading. Is this something that can be implemented?

Sure; I'll look into adding it the next time I work on the HUD.

#5 thrift stores in Off Topic
dfyyeah thrift stores are cool if you wanna look like a pile of shit

To be fair, you can probably find some decent stuff amidst the pile of shit. That said, I personally don't like the idea of wearing some random person's old clothing.

I BET YOU USE ARCH YOU BUTT IDIOT

Thanks for your opinion. And yes, I'm currently using Arch out of laziness, but my distribution of choice is Exherbo.

jerryjigglerim on xubuntu right now, but I plan to go to arch when I am more comfortable.

The best way to learn is to just do it. You don't need to gain Linux experience before moving to a distro like Arch; you'll just pick it up as you use it. Not to mention that there are quite a few significant differences between the two.

paulitoSomething about the .deb being x86 and my computer being x64, which makes sense, but I don't know how to fix it. If Valve would implement 64 bit versions of their things that'd be pretty neato.

You're gonna need to install a bunch of 32-bit libraries to get Steam to run. It's pretty standard procedure when you want to run a 32-bit binary on a 64-bit system. Yes, a native 64-bit version would be nice, but it's certainly not necessary.

ThomasWould a 30gb SSD be able to hold a full ubuntu32 install and TF2?

I think it would be fine. If I recall correctly, TF2 is ~10 GiB. Ubuntu should be quite a bit less than that, although it varies with what you have installed.

cinqYou must know what you do if you don't want any of these desktop environment.

Here's what mines look like at the moment: http://i.imgur.com/iLsxa.png

It's nice, but I prefer a more minimal setup. :)

I did use Xfce for some time a few years ago, though.

Hmm, I'll give Steam a try on Ubuntu. Will probably be a lot easier to get working.

I'll probably end up having to do the command-line install, since I really don't want GNOME/KDE/Xfce/LXDE/etc..

Out of curiosity, what distribution are you using, cinq?

I wish I could -frag you twice for that, aim.

blueeYes, but the games still call DirectX functions, there's a layer in the engine to convert those to OpenGL functions on osx/linux. The problem is they only made it compatible with DX9 calls.

It's just a layer that translates DirectX calls to OpenGL ones; there should not be an intrinsic difference between DX8 calls and DX9 calls as far as performance is concerned. It would be a severe waste of development hours for Valve to add a similar layer for DX8 calls. Native OpenGL support aside, the smart thing to do would focus their efforts on optimising performance of their OpenGL calls.

blueeOh? It crashed for me when I tried dxlevel 81, and some other sites seemed to say it was limited this way on osx/linux. If it's actually there and just buggy for me right now then happy days.

It doesn't use DirectX at all. OpenGL.

[edit] I should probably add that DirectX is a strictly Windows API, to avoid any confusion.
