#128 Player skill rating added to the game in TF2 General Discussion
SeaberryThis is contradictory to Valve speaking publicly against competetive tf2.

I've never seen them publicly speaking against it. The closest they've come was talking about why they don't like the current competitive 6v6 format, and that was a second-hand report by Sal from the meeting with Robin Walker last year, and that was only posted here.

#90 Player skill rating added to the game in TF2 General Discussion

We actually had confirmation that they're working on implementing a matchmaking update in the Source SDK update last month (which I didn't notice until about last week).

Specifically, CTeamplayRoundBasedRules, which is where round logic is contained, was updated with some very interesting additions marked as "staging". In particular, references to a "rated tournament mode" and calculating a "skill rating adjustment" at the end of a match.

So yeah. It's happening.

#35 Computer Science Major? in Off Topic
brownymasterCS is still an engineering major or at least where I went to school.

It depends on the school. It's usually lumped in with engineering or science. My school has it separated into its own college, which is nice.

TeamFortressTV is actively using spec GUI ordering, but I'm not sure about any other organization.

#57 NA TF2 Winter LAN: What's next after GXL? in LAN Discussion

And there are those of us in production that disagree after looking at the results of the past year. You're free to think otherwise, but we will put in the effort based on what we think we can accomplish.

#55 NA TF2 Winter LAN: What's next after GXL? in LAN Discussion

It's not a wasted effort for those of us who can see how the growth of the competitive scene is continuing to increase. Yes, a lot of us realize that TF2 will never be a premier-tier game without developer support, but that doesn't prevent us from continuing to expand and moving closer to our maximum potential.

#57 How long have you been around? in Off Topic

I got TF2 summer 2011, got into TF2 winter 2011, and had my first real exposure to competitive TF2 during Tip of the Hats 2013. I guess I'm still not fully in since I have yet to play a full season of any format.

#10 TF2 update for 10/15/14 in TF2 General Discussion
WaldoKind of annoying that they fixed this in their usual heavy-handed manner, it's fun to play with modified weapons offline. Necessary, I guess.

Could always download a server and play with TF2Items/TF2Attributes.

#7 TF2 update for 10/15/14 in TF2 General Discussion

I emailed Eric three times before he finally responded and told me they were looking into it. Glad to see it finally fixed.

#50 GXL feedback in LAN Discussion
Comangliatheir was a weird crescent shapped gray water mark in the lower left hand side of the stream toward the center.

That was due to an issue in the extv-lowerthird animation that didn't disappear, which I assume will get fixed.

#178 StatusSpec in Projects

StatusSpec 0.21.0 is now available.

Changes happening during and after GXL include:

  • a massive rewrite
  • camera tools now works directly according to the current spec GUI order (and not necessarily the same order as the bundled spec GUI order module)
  • loadout icons and status icons now are VGUI-based and thus come with some res files and new console variables for customization
  • team health comparison (similar to the equipment value display in CS:GO, and customizable via the included resource file)
  • custom materials has been readded alongside the custom textures module

This probably isn't a perfect release, given that I've had little opportunity to test every change, so any testing to make sure everything is in order would be great. In particular, I was receiving reports of custom materials causing crashes. It seems like the issue may have been fixed (?), but testing would be appreciated (in both the case of the module being enabled and disabled with statusspec_custommaterials_enabled, no other configuration required) just to make sure that there isn't a crash that somehow slipped past me.

As always, feedback is appreciated.

ShunCamera Tools: might want to specify in the readme that it only accepts numbers as <team> <position> rather than red/blu or soldier/medic. I tried to do that like a noob.

Yeah, RED team = 2 and BLU team = 3, and position (now) refers to where they are in the spec GUI.

#12 Let's keep this going. in TF2 General Discussion
plinkoLast I heard, the Atlanta LANfest had stopped supporting TF2, is there anything in the Southeastern US that does?

There was the South Florida charity LAN organized in August that will be held again next year. We could also try to get back into LANfest Atlanta or something like GT Gamefest in the spring.

ToodlesAlso remember to hud_realoadscheme when the map timer freezes.

This will never actually work. I have a theory for why there's an issue (something related to client tick count not being in sync with server tick count), but I'm a long way from finding a good fix.

WithADanceNumberBring back the old eXtv style team uniforms for casts. That would be sick.

I can say that the functionality to make this work (even with ESEA half-time switches) exists, but it wasn't done in time for use at GXL. The main barrier to actually adopting this would be the lack of tastefully designed skins for each team.

samjain98I actually really like seeing overall team health. Like loljk said, it shows the tide of the fight before picks start coming in. eXtv tried doing that for some matches, and it was great. It wasn't intrusive at all, nor did it take up any viewing space.

Would it be preferable to have the two separate health bars for each team (seen in Spec Tools and IIRC some eXtv casts) or having just one shared bar (similar to the equipment value display in CS:GO)?

Frost_BiteOrangecakeWould it be possible for the casters to have keybinds set up to swap to a specific player? Something on the numpad maybe, so when something surprising happens the casters can swap to the right POV faster instead of having to click through multiple people.I'm pretty sure they do this already.
It's built into the game afaik.

Not built into the game, but provided by the spec plugins.

#58 theGXL Invitational presented by Corsair Gaming in Events

If not on eXtv's YouTube (in case of music claims, which were an issue for a similar video made for ESEA S16), it would probably be on dashner's YouTube.
