#1 TF2 item schema update for 10/11/21 (10/12/21 UTC) in TF2 General Discussion

Via the Steam store:

Valve- Updated The Corpse Carrier
- Added the Holiday Restriction: Halloween / Full Moon
- Players who currently have this item will receive another random item from the Crimson Cache Collection
- The item has been moved from the Crimson Cache Collection to the list of possible bonus items received when opening a Crimson Cache Case

Rumor has it:

- Those that receive random alternate items will see them as originating from Steam Support when a new items alert is acknowledged ("Customer Support Granted You:" in-game/"Support Granted" on backpack viewers)
- A pop-up message will also appear if you're affected. See /u/Gamepro5's post on /r/tf2 for an example:

https://i.redd.it/2yga3r6b8xs71.jpg

- There is nothing to download as holiday restrictions are controllable through the item schema (specifically, by setting "holiday_restriction": "halloween_or_fullmoon")

#6 TF2 update for 10/8/21 (10/9/21 UTC) in TF2 General Discussion
GritomaI was playing TF2, noticed the update, closed the game, installed the patch and rebooted. Upon reopening the game, I was greeted by a Discord 404 (???) overlay that covered the rest of the game and made it unplayable. Forcing Discord closed through task manager and rebooting both programs seems to fix whatever issue I was having.

I'm guessing I just found a new and interesting Dick Sword conflict with TF, I'd like to know if anyone else can replicate these problems, but I really don't know where the two interact.

Not a TF-specific or update-related fault, and as such will not get carriage in RHI. But as long as your client version in User Settings is "100789", the overlay should behave properly. Should bad overlay behavior persist, restart your system.

Rumor has it:

- FACEIT players will want to be aware of scattered reports of being unable to start the game after this update. Exit the FACEIT client for now and you should be able to launch again. (of course, this means that until they take a peek at what's gone on with their client, you won't be able to play on the platform yet)

- As both /u/Haaselh0ff and /u/DankMemeRipper1337 have pointed out on reddit, the list of Basalt changes mentioned above is actually not included in this update, because Basalt wasn't updated

- For the peekers out there, /u/Elcheer took two screenshots of the "re-tired" Dust 2 middle from both T spawn and mid doors

- This is the description for the bbno$, u mad! Music Kit: "bbno$ formulates 'the' toxic gamer anthem, u mad! Are u mad? LOL get good scrub. Research shows if you play with this Music Kit equipped you'll immediately go from Silver to Global."
- If you're not entirely sold on the kit, try previewing it at CS:GO Stash to help you decide if you'd want to buy it

- A bit of plumbing has been inserted for week 4 through 8 missions for Operation Riptide

- If you're stopped from joining a Private Queue because you're not a part of a Steam Community group, you'll now be told "You are not a member of this Steam Group. Visit their page to join and try the Queue Code again."

- If you'd like, you can view lots of map and Guardian bot related logic changes scattered throughout this update here. There's also a fresh shot of translations, which are made possible as always with the efforts of Translators Like You - Thank You

- Size is close to 325 MB

#9 MAJOR TF2 update for 10/5/21 (Scream Fortress XIII in TF2 General Discussion
SentiMight as well ask here too
SentiimfasterthanwickedplayerAdded ConVar "tf_delete_temp_files" to control custom player sprays and other temp files being deleted on shutdown
Can be toggled in the Advanced Options dialog
Default is to delete the temp files

Haven't been keeping up to date with the whole temp file problem. Do I want this on or off to avoid whatever issues the last update brought?

If you wish to KEEP temporary files on game exit, including sprays from community servers, set tf_delete_temp_files to 0.
If you wish to PURGE temporary files on game exit, no action is required (default is 1).

#1 TF2 update for 9/24/21 (9/25/21 UTC) in TF2 General Discussion

Via the Steam store:

Valve- Fixed a bug where some methods of connecting to Steam would not honor the -ip command line parameter

Rumor has it:

- A rare Saturday email to the HLDS lists by Fletcher Dunn says that unfortunately, the -ip fix attempt just "didn't", as there was another instance of the same issue that wasn't picked up during testing. He says that another update should happen on Monday to properly fix it, but says "In the meantime, if the "-ip" command line argument is randomly not working, adding "-websocket" to the command line will probably work around the bug."

- Other than that bug fix, this one has localization file updates galore, which are made possible with the continued efforts of Translators Like You - Thank You

#1 TF2 update for 9/17/21 (9/18/21 UTC) in TF2 General Discussion

Via the Steam store and HLDS:

Valve- Added ConVar "sdr_spew_level" for clients and servers to control SteamNetworkingSockets console spew. Default is 4 (warning).
- Fixed official TF2 bots displaying avatars in the scoreboard during modes like Offline Practice

- Minor visual fixes
- Minor clipping fixes
- Slightly increased spawn time when attacking last
- Fixed some jumps being made impossible in previous update
- Made some areas like respawn doors smoother to walk past
- Nature & Wildlife preservation measures

Rumor has it:

- /u/pikatf2 is warning that SourceMod servers are broken and advises server operators to remain patient until a new update arrives and to grab the latest build to get your community server back up and running
- In the meantime, consider checking their breakdown of lower-level changes here

- /u/CakeWut has discovered what the above nature and wildlife preservation measures on Snakewater are: the addition of a stump adjacent to the 2nd point on both sides:

https://i.imgur.com/DG0gRv4.png]

- Although when it comes to the RED side specifically, the forest of trees by the waterfall now has one fewer tree (and a stump) - what might have happened to that one tree? Perhaps you may be able to help solve a mystery

- If after you've downloaded this update and you're noticing a longer than usual startup time, several people have reported that the change to spray retention behavior also takes effect on game startup in addition to when disconnecting from a server
- Those with slower and/or older HDDs who have been playing the game for a while are more likely to notice and experience significant delays

- If the removal of disconnect messages sounds familiar, you're right - a similar note previously appeared in the first update on 6/22/21
- Per /u/_Bond_1's testing & mine, the disconnect message referred to in this update today is the pop-up that appears just before you return to the main menu (instead of being specific as to why, such as a votekick, it will now only ever say "Disconnect: Client Disconnect"), as opposed to the message that used to be left in chat with the 6/22/21 update

- This is just the 5th update to occur this year so far, after an 86-day drought
- The 2nd longest all-time record drought a stretch of 80 days from 1/18/20 to 4/7/20 (4/8/20 UTC), has been knocked down to 3rd longest with this most recent drought. The longest all-time record drought early this year of 112 days remains on top
- By this point of the year last year, the game had 9 updates by the same day of the 2020 calendar year (the 10th would not happen until 10/1/20)

- Size is ~80 MB

- On a more personal note, it just so happens that today marks the 10th anniversary of when I first started doing update coverage on reddit with the update that occurred on 9/16/11. Though some of the more familiar elements you've come to know and love such as slapping these into text posts for accessibility purposes, and this very "Rumor has it" section, didn't get going in earnest until later towards the tail end of 2011, it's still a crazy milestone to think about. Back in 2011 and 2012 my goal was to provide this sort of information to the masses as quickly as possible (and that's evidenced by my bragging of sometimes leap-frogging the Wiki then) while also democratizing the analysis and teardown process amongst you, the community. It's clear that's become a huge success as even when I'm not away, or if I've accidentally fallen asleep, every one of you has the tools to do your own teardown, which has only been helped even further still with the advent of websites like SteamDB, as well as tools like its GameTracking repo. Although I've become quite a busier person since those days, which has precipitated a move more towards reliability and putting out more rock-solid information than rumors, it's still a great pleasure to have been a first-hand eyewitness of TF2 history, as well as others' histories, for so long.

- Ultimately, this would not be possible without the efforts of hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of ordinary community members like **you** who were just as excited to see what's new. Although some of you have moved on to greener pastures, your major contributions throughout the years still do not go unappreciated.

- We've been through both the high moments, like the good old days of Pyromania and Mann vs. Machine in 2012, to the sometimes low moments such as The Crate Depression, the disappointment around what ultimately shipped in End of the Line, or that one time the game's source code spilled out, and lots of places in between. Here's to many more moments. THANK YOU for your readership, contributions, and support over these past 10 years. Consider it a courtesy! (I feel it's only fair to bring up that if you want breaking news coverage for TF2 as well as most of Valve's other titles, feel free to turn to either of my Twitter accounts, @wickedplayer494, or if you're planning on setting notifications up, @wp494news)
