TF2 framerates are mostly CPU bound. You'll get around the same, maybe slightly less.

#7 Max Frames Not Working? in Customization
kounterpartsyou can just edit your post so you dont double post next time. It usually isnt a good idea to uncap your fps because (dont quote me on this) physics can get weird and if you dont have a 120/144 hz monitor youre going to get tearing. However if youre constantly hitting 300 move that cap because it causes a ton of input lag

I've never seen physics issue in Source from high framerates, though it happens in other engines. I believe this is because physics are tied to the tickrate rather than framerate, but correct me if I'm wrong.

#55 Why can't we add a button? in TF2 General Discussion
eeestar plays a lot less tf2 than muselk now

muselk is also VERY active on /r/tf2

idk dude

muselk claims he played 6s once, but he dislikes 6s tho*

*dislikes the current meta and its community, he talked about it here before i started being a belligerent asshole because yeah

If Steven brought attention to the issue, and he's definitely involved with the issue because he's played competitively many times since like 2009, people would listen. They fucking loved it when he ran Targe in 6s, I'm sure they'd listen.

#9 Maps crashing game in Q/A Help
ShunRun less extreme graphics settings, maybe run -dxlevel 90 instead of -dxlevel 98? I noticed something similar to this the first time I tried to run 144hz and joined a barnblitz 32 player pub. Props and people disappeared.

I'm on 144Hz, but I'm not running dxlevel98 because I've heard of similar issues.

There are many potential solutions across both threads, have you already seen/tried them already?

First thread debunks the suggestion from this thread that reinstalling fixes it. It doesn't. It then goes on to state that mat_hdr_level 2 might cause it; mine is at 0. That's the only helpful advice from this thread, besides someone saying changing configs helped them. I don't run configs.
Second thread gives no valid suggestions, because viewmodel_fov is now clamped to a valid range. In fact, that thread ends with further complaints that it's happening again and no fixes.

Wow many potential solutions, and literally all of these you could have determined don't apply to me because I posted my entire config.

Being able to use Google is not a replacement for common sense.

#52 Why can't we add a button? in TF2 General Discussion
popcorpYes, this sounds quite bad and I know that Muselk is not the most popular person among the Comp. players, but if you want competitive to grow, you'll have to deal with it or just do nothing and hope that it goes up by itself. Basically if you want that advertisement from Valve, you need to take control of Reddit, via the most popular Player - Muselk, he'll influence his viewers, people will start talking more about competitive, then someone makes a suggestion about this button on /r/tf2, everyone spams Tf2 Team, you get your Button due to the demand.

I'm pretty sure Steven has a much bigger and more passionate audience than Muselk, and the comp community thinks much more highly of him than Muselk.

CondoMHNNNNG, not this argument again.

Because Valve will literally ever support a mode that disallows certain items in their game.

It's not the meta, it's the whitelist. Supporting Arena: Respawn has a chance because of the lack of whitelist. An unmodified HL would be possible if they altered a few weapons. Current 6s just isn't feasible to be supported by Valve, because it bans SO MANY weapons that the casual player uses. By supporting gamemodes that ban 2/3 of the weapons in the game, Valve would basically be admitting they were wrong on so many accounts, and I just don't see that happening.

#47 low fps on tf2 with gtx 970 in Q/A Help
Snowdreamyou should really be fine, i can stream fine (120+) with an i5 2500k sandybridge and gtx670

2500k is still one of the best singlethreaded CPUs out there.

AKGAMERADAREasy your using the wrong settings, use game capture in obs, not screen

Read the thread next time, that's not an issue.

#44 low fps on tf2 with gtx 970 in Q/A Help
nobelharvardsMy guess, is either because Windows 7 does not play nice with 8 core CPUs, since Windows 7 was released back in 2009, or...

AMD have always been the underdog against Intel. Because they have less money, I am guessing they are forced to focus more on the latest OS drivers (Windows 8, 8.1, possibly 10 as well), and less on the older ones such as XP, Vista or 7.

I think it's probably something more to do with multicore optimizations. AMD was fine compared to Intel in the Phenom 2 days. FX CPUs are historically bad at single-threaded operations.

Remember, even DX11 is single threaded.

#7 SweetFX Error in Customization
FranklinNinjaWait, I can launch the game, but there is no color difference, I set the toggle effects key to f12 and nothing happend when I pressed f12

Can't help you. Issue with SweetFX, not with the game.

Essentially Source games all use hl2.exe (or mostly use, some don't) to launch their own games. Each game is actually a "mod", which has its own folder. For example, Portal uses "-game portal". TF2 just uses "tf". You were missing that argument so it tried to launch HL2, not TF2.

Are you running DX8? You might have issues with SweetFX if so.

#4 SweetFX Error in Customization
FranklinNinjaIts the SweetFX configurator http://sweetfx.thelazy.net/

Thanks for the upfront answer.

It's a wrapper.

Click the hl2.exe entry, hit the Game settings button, and under launch arguments, add

-game tf

at the very beginning.

How are you launching the game through SweetFX?

How does SweetFX even launch? Does it use a wrapper, or d3d9.dll?

#29 Why can't we add a button? in TF2 General Discussion
cerealI honestly don't think Valve cares about what their game is like at this point or else the short circuit wouldn't be a thing. They only care about money and the button would only make them more money.

Preaching to the choir, buddy. The 6s and HL meta are the way they are for a damned good reason.

The HL meta is essentially the TF2 meta refined for competitive. 6s is almost its own game.
