#6 SoapDM Map Support in TF2 General Discussion
THEBILLDOZERwhy steel

because for some fucking reason it's still in the UGC HL map pool

GiraffeIf you're doing highlander maps ;
Swiftwater
Upward
Badwater pro?

You would need to focus the spawns around 1-2 points for PL maps because of how big they are.

Swiftwater and Upward have support. Do you have a badwater pro download?

I've been doing that, and likewise for Steel. Steel's spawns are focused around last, Borneo's will be focused around first and second.

#1 SoapDM Map Support in TF2 General Discussion

Are there any maps that you guys want to have SoapDM support in? I'm trying to keep SoapDM up to date since Lange isn't involved with TF2 much anymore.

Currently supported maps:
https://github.com/Lange/SOAP-TF2DM/tree/master/addons/sourcemod/configs/soap

Maps finished and pushed:

cp_steel
cp_granary_pro_b4
pl_borneo_rc4
cp_glassworks_rc4a
koth_sandstone_pro_rc1

Maps I've finished but haven't pushed yet:

none

Todo:

pl_badwater_pro (waiting on link)
cp_croissant (not needed?)

#31 Steam now has paid workshop mods in Off Topic
2cand frankly if someone makes a good enouhg dota mario kart and it costs a dollar ill go sell some crates and manage i think

skyrim players have massive down's

Yes, because you'd totally pay $100 for some horse genitals, too. Wow, such downs.

Nobody would have a problem with paying $1 for well-polished, genuine content. There are a few mods on the Workshop right now that actually DESERVE their asking prices. Arissa deserved the $3 minimum price, and even the $5 suggested (though all of Chesko's mods have been removed). iNeed for $1 minimum sounds fantastic. Midas Magic, which adds a fuckload of new spells that aren't just reskins, sure as hell deserves the $3 minimum and even maybe the $6 suggested.

People are mostly butthurt about shitty mods charging more than they should, as well as the 25% modder cut. Very few people are upset that any mod in the world might cost money, and those that are are entitled pricks. Don't associate the vast majority with the vocal minority.

EtneyJust because I capped the intel twice did not mean I spent the "entire" lobby doing that. http://logs.tf/782154?highlight=76561198035342207

Man I was just joking around. As Medic, when I usually saw you, that's what I saw, so I thought it was silly and funny. I wasn't accusing you of anything, it's a fucking lobby.

Don't label it as final, just label it as rc1 or pro7, just in case bugs come up. Tagging final1 is always annoying.

Starki was messing about in hammer for what i would do to last and i came up with this (excuse the awful mapping)

I don't know if such a large surface is a good idea, but I think the railing could definitely be removed to help it not feel so awkward.

Also, don't forget that the pipe is used for rollouts, so you've got to be careful with how you change it.

gargleburryit seems people either hate badlands or really like it

I'm not even an absolutely huge fan of it, but ignoring how core it is to the 6v6 format is just stupid.

#33 Valve to introduce "Paid Mods" in Off Topic
Niko_JimsThat would imply that Valve cared about anything but money at this point. They get 75% of the cut, that's money they are losing. They are a business, they will not stand for that. The whole debacle with them and the UK/Euro law about game refunds proves this.

Let me phrase it differently then. Valve cares about their money. If they remove refunds, a fuckload more people will stop buying mods, on top of the ones that already won't buy them. It's in their best profitable interest to implement DRM to protect purchases, rather than fuck up those purchases in the first place. I'm not a fan of it any more than you, but that's what they'll do.

Keywords there. You also forget that Skyrim "cosmetics" also have stats/rewrite in-game models. TF2 hats do nothing, and are new models added to the game after being reviewed by Valve.

Stats are irrelevant in a game with a console and constant cheats without multiplayer. That means nothing. If it implements new functionality, like awesome new spells, cool. But just stat rewrites aren't enough. As for rewriting ingame models, they don't really. Modifying ingame models is about as easy as making items in TF2, if not easier because TF2 is far more broken.

#31 Valve to introduce "Paid Mods" in Off Topic
Niko_JimsMaker of FNIS for SkyrimNiko_JimsMaker of Fore's New Idles in Skyrim for SkyrimNiko_JimsPeople are stealing mods from Nexus and putting them up on the Workshop. This has caused thousands of mods to disappear from Nexus to avoid people stealing them.

There's now a DMCA process, and Valve isn't Microsoft, I expect them to be pretty harsh on it

http://puu.sh/hoZGo/0ebe18e41d.png

Niko_JimsOh, and the refund thing probably won't last long because people are simply buying the mod, backing it up, then refunding it, so sooner or later, refunding won't be a thing, or modders won't make shit and now we have a ruined mod community.

the amount of backlash that would come up if the refund process was removed, especially for a game like Skyrim where mod conflicts are so prevalent, would mean that it won't be removed. Valve will just start implementing DRM whenever possible.

Niko_JimsAlso hats are just models in a game that don't affect anything and don't conflict with anything, you cannot compare the two.

almost everything that's paid so far is cosmetic only, very few things contain actual content

Niko_Jims-Vice versa, currently people are fucking that guy over by not asking for permission for using his shit in their mods

it's been removed, please see http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=430324898

#29 Valve to introduce "Paid Mods" in Off Topic

one of the reasons valve might be setting their cut so high is to stop it from being a method of withdrawing steam wallet money into actual money

like when people cash out, they use PayPal and go through a trusted middleman. if Valve's cut was tiny, then you could cut out the middleman by selling keys on the market and then buying a smurf's mods in order to get money paid from valve to your bank account

I mean valve is also greedy as fuck but this probably is also a factor

the thing is, with a cut so low, modders will just have PayPal donate buttons instead because that's way more profitable

the reason Apple got away with 70% cuts was because it was their platform and there was no workaround, and they had a huge market share. Google didn't, so Google only took 30%. Valve is trying to be like Apple here but the thing is, they don't have a monopoly. This is the fucking modding community, there are always workarounds. Hell, with Skyrim, there's not even a way to implement DRM on paid mods, at least Google can do that.

eeewhy?

like yeah sure some of the more impressive Oblivion overhauls probably took >1500 hours of scripting from an individual coder, but that doesn't make it professional level material, nor does it mean that you should be compensated. It's like getting paid for writing fanfiction.

this is the mindset that's making competitive TF2 only a hobby

rQwireGod i hope Nexus doesn't turn to shit

the number of issues with the workshop mean that Nexus will be staying around for a long time

deetrI'd bet every gamemode for gmod will cost money by the end of the month

time to cash in on TTT
