#71 MAJOR TF2 update for 10/6/15 (Invasion Update) in TF2 General Discussion

anyone manage to get these maps loading in SFM? all four of them do nothing and then crash SFM if you try loading them a second time. already tried unpacking all of the new content from TF2's .vpks and throwing them into the SourceFilmmaker/game/tf folder, didn't do anything. recompile?

#59 MAJOR TF2 update for 10/6/15 (Invasion Update) in TF2 General Discussion

disregard everything i posted above, after doing a thorough maps * check it turns out I only got half the update. Some files updated but others didn't (sound vpks were updated but textures weren't, etc), and Steam thought I was up to date. Restarted steam and it's downloading the full update now.

Batman4kInvasion pls :p

Working on it, but it looks like most of the issues with it are actually valve-related

edit: as far as I can see it's not even minorly broken, so unless someone sees something big that I missed I'm not going to stress over an update for it

flameright now i just moved the beer bottle thing closer to the health for this watergate map but yeah i just updated the menus and buttons, nothing is "broken" this time

what exactly did you do to fix the store icons? I looked at your commit but nothing there actually has anything to do with the store.

edit: looks to me like it's a schema issue, not a hud issue. old icons work fine.

new item names seem to be messed up - translations issues? is this something we need to fix or is it on valve's end?

#7 GeForce Experience in Q/A Help

geforce experience is honestly really solid

like it's a resource hog if it's sitting in the background, but when it comes to optimizing game settings, it works wonders, especially on the technical side. it's really a testament to how amazing the driver developers over at nvidia are. they literally have to learn the syntax and commands/variables for every game they want to add to geforce experience, and then write up syntax to allow you to edit those settings between valid values on the fly, and THEN they keep an index of optimal performance combinations for every single GPU combination they support.

it's honestly remarkable work, and no matter which manufacturer you prefer, these devs deserve some praise.

SetsulOlder than what? I still don't understand.

Sorry, I was under the impression that the XL2420Z replaced the XL2411Z and I also incorrectly recalled color comparisons that rated the XL2420Z better.

I think I actually got the XL2411Z and XL2411T mixed up in my head. My bad.

The XL2xxxT uses a PWM backlight and the Z series doesn't? Isn't it the other way around? I thought the PWM backlight is a requirement for the whole motion blur reduction (LightBoost) feature that the Z series includes but the T series doesn't. I might be wrong on this though, there isn't all that much documentation on the technical aspects of LightBoost.

Why not XL2411Z?

I didn't say the XL2411Z was a bad choice, just that it's a fair bit older (2-3 yrs now) and based on older tech. Its color performance is a fair bit worse.

And for the record I went with a 620W PSU because I also upgraded to a mobo that supports CFX, so he has that option in the future.

floeyi dont really need 1tb, maybe 500 mb

http://i.imgur.com/xxDl1mx.png

as for cases, here are a couple of my go-tos, pick what you like:
Cooler Master N400
Antec 1100V2
Antec 900
Fractal Design Define R4
Silverstone Temjin TJ08B-E

floeyEDIT: i was thinking of buying a new screen bc atm im running a 60 hz aoc screen with alot of burned pixels, is this overkill for a 144hz monitor?

It's a little outdated, but it's certainly not a bad monitor. That's about the price range that any 144Hz panel will net you nowadays.
I'd take a look into one of these:
ASUS VG248QE
BenQ XL2420Z

Tino_IMO drop the liquid cooling and SSD for now and just get a 1tb drive and a decent fan, gives you way more space and it also saves you some $ and upgrading at a later time is easy

or with a budget like this, he might as well just get both an SSD and a 1TB HDD

#5 Building a new computer need help. in Q/A Help

it's a little imbalanced

not sure on case quality, CPU cooler is both awful and overkill since you won't be overclocking, motherboard is a little low end, PSU is great but overkill.

CPU, SSD, and RAM are all fine, I'd just tweak the things listed above. I'd ditch the CPU cooler and opt for a slightly higher end motherboard like this one, and I'd do some serious research into cases and case quality, rather than just picking what looks cool.

for PSU I'd either go with this which is a really solid but modest power supply, or this if you want fully modular

of course at $1000 I would seriously consider overclocking, it's incredibly easy nowadays

Yeah, I didn't fix the inspect panel because I wasn't able to figure out why it's broken. Somebody posted a fixed version but they deleted it from pastebin.com, so I wasn't able to implement it.

#6 Disabling a vpk in sv_pure 2 in Q/A Help
JarateKingThere's probably more, but afaik mat_phong is the only command to reload materials/textures ingame without sv_cheats.

Sounds about right.

Does mat_picmip reload textures? I think it'd be faster than mat_phong.

#4 Disabling a vpk in sv_pure 2 in Q/A Help

Is mat_reloadallmaterials a command that requires sv_cheats? I honestly don't know but I use it in SFM all the time for this exact reason

edit: mat_reloadallmaterials only reloads the material files (vmt), not the texture files (vtf). if the texture pack doesn't use special vmt files and only uses vtf files, then it probably won't work.
