My two cents.
I've been main-calling for about 3 or so years now, and I've gone through many phases. I'll drop a few points (they've probably already been mentioned).
*Have a firm, authoritative voice. People may sometimes not hear your calls/shrug them off if you aren't firm with them. It's all about using tone and the right words. Compare your self saying "Scout behind" and "SCOUT ON OUR MEDIC". Don't be afraid to tell people to stop talking if they're cluttering comms with "Haha lol xD lmao i rayept dat guy!"
*Be confident in your calls. Even if it may not be the "100% super strat 360 69" call, if you make it seem it is your team will follow it to the letter. Relates to my above point.
*Don't think you need to micromanage. Your team needs to know what they need to do, and that doesn't require you to play Starcraft in TF2. There may be some situations where you need to say "scout come in now", for example, but I tell so many people this particular quote regarding this. "When I give a minister an order, I leave it to him to find the means to carry it out."
*Don't be afraid to ask for information. As the main caller, you need information to make calls. "Knowledge is power" as they say, and that makes calling no different. A fight may be difficult/dire on your end, but for all you know someone on your team could be flanking them, potentially turning the tide of the fight.
*Short and concise. For christ's sake, we're not doing speeches here. Make it short and sweet, don't drone on as it can tend to clog comms and will end up having a more negative than positive effect. Not only that, please be clear in your meaning. Your left could be someones right.
*Try narrate the uber(s) to the best of your ability. Post uber is probably the most important phase of fights in TF2, and is often where a lot of rounds can be decided. Saying things like "their uber is almost out, they're stuck in trash" can work wonders for your team, setting up massive flanks and the like.
*STAY POSITIVE. This is probably the most important part of calling, and where many people fumble, no matter how good they are (I am sometimes guilty). If you start getting frustrated/upset at what is happening, be it your performance or your teams, please get a stressball or just scream at your monitor without holding down your ptt button. When the leader/caller starts getting low on morale, everyone else in the team will quite often follow suit.
*Relax. Quite often you will find yourself pretty taxed after a game. If you've played a few games and are tired, go get a drink of water and take a couple minutes break. I daresay more often than not most teams are willing to wait a couple of minutes for a "bio break", so just use that time to reflect on the game, your calls, and how you can improve for the next map.
Hope this is helpful
Happens on every server.
Might try reinstalling tf2 and see how that goes.
Still occuring for me. Happening on every server, even on demo playback (need to reload demo for it to work).

Would one/all of us wearing this be adequate to satisfy your desire?
We were having this issue earlier in our match tonight. Just required a map change and it was ok.
I was playing soldier at the time, and I was wasn't really told anything at all. It was on cp_well and it was 8v8. I think I got like 10 frags or something in 30 minutes, and that was about it.
I had no idea what I was doing but managed to have a ton of fun since I was fairly apathetic about the whole deal.
Fast forward a little bit and my first "proper" 6v6 game, I was told "follow the other soldier" and went from there. I felt that I needed to hit at least one airshot, and I didn't so was a bit sad :(
There's plenty of information out there on basics & how to get better. Not only that, people are a lot more open with stvs/demos, and there are also a ton of people that have done some good analyses of demos/maps etc (crack clan to name an example). So all you gotta do is stay positive and set some short term realistic goals, and even have a long term goal.
Hi.
Was just wondering if there were any chance of this being implemented for the forum. Can I assume that being required to sign in using a steam account may have an effect on this?
Would be cool if it were possible, as having steam guard and being required to log in through steam on my mobile browser can be a pain in the butt.
If you don't know it, its just a forum browserapp for mobiles (not sure if Android only).
Eg
conductorlast I heard from james is that they're gonna have to pay for a lot of it themselves but they should still be going, and they should be making a thread soon to gauge interest in what people would like from them if they were to try and do a fundraiser
Pretty much spot on.
Our manager unfortunately has been dodging the question/issue for months since we gave notice. We feel it has been left too long to a 'maybe' or a "I'll let you know tomorrow" (x100). Most of our team will be putting forward a decent amount of money each, so if we were to do something like a fundraiser, the goal of it would be modest as we don't want people emptying their wallets for our sake when there has already been another fundraiser for a different team (HRG).
As Conductor said, we will be making a thread just to gauge interest on what people want FROM US if we were to receive your monetary aid. We aren't just going to make a random list of things - we're prepared to actually give people what they paid for, which is not only for us to compete at i49, but also things like mentoring, 'class videos', etc.
If our fundraiser is successful, we're planning to put most of (if not, all) the winnings into a charity of our/the community's choice.
Official post with all the info coming soon. I think it will be on ozfortress first, as a lot of people on there don't actually view tftv (surprisingly). I hope you guys don't feel this is us excluding you, though.
On the plus side, we have already (over a month ago?) talked with Tapley to organise tickets/seating at the event. We're just in the process of organising other semantics. We're definitely hoping to start getting the ball rolling sometime later this week.
grapefrom my experience the best .exe for cpm is quake3e (http://edawn-mod.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7), it has fewer problems with resolution/aspect ratio, the mouse input is a lot better, and it actually gets updated
also helpful commands:
- to make your xhair on 16:9 not be stretched, use cg_crosshairsize (n*3)x(n*4) for any n, e.g. 21x28
- r_mode -1; r_customwidth 1920; r_customheight 1080; r_fullscreen 1 for custom resolutions
- https://www.dropbox.com/s/pzaklzcsun1hp42/grape.cfg there's my cfg, it has basically all of the commands you need and quite a few more
User Interface is version 3, expected 6. Installed CPMA from the site, got the pak for tyler's link and tried to use that exe.
