I don't know how you can say $60 for 3 months is an expensive hobby. If you go to the movies once a month you'll probably spend that much.
I spend over $1500 a ski season for trips and lift tickets, not to mention the money I put into my gear

Marmiewhy are you paying???? if im paying for a hobby such as tennis, i buy a new racquet to make myself better, just as i would buy a new mouse, you are paying an overpriced fee to play in a league that u are getting no benefits out of, i am playing in a league for free, only negatives of this league is that the prize pool is lower and there is no lan, if everyone in europe put 60 dollars we would have a huge prize pool, with 312 teams entering
and 60 dollars not much for a hobby?
lol you obviously dont work
Playing in ESEA is a step further than your tennis analogy. It's like entering a tennis tournament or bracket, which, in my limited competitive tennis experience, they do charge you for. What you're talking about is not league play as much as it is scrims.
Oh my god, you're leaving out so many facts and you're making a bad assumption about players in Europe I'm about to cry. At work. Don't make me lose my job.
1) It doesn't cost EVERYONE $60. That's just Invite.
2) IF EUROPE DOESN'T WANT TO PAY, WHAT MAKES YOU THINK THE 312 TEAMS IN ETF2L WOULD PAY FOR A PRIZE POOL? And if we're extending this to free leagues...you have to include UGC 6s, as much as I don't want to, I have friends in those leagues who play the game more casually and don't feel a need to enter a paid league (which absolutely raises the stakes, even if a little bit). I don't know how many NA teams there are, but I imagine it's not an amount you can just ignore.

These are two contradicting statements. Clarify?
Regardless of the fact that marmite is mostly a retard,
It's cool that 60$ isn't much for you guys, but I couldn't afford it.
I don't work, and my parents wouldn't give me 60$ 3 times a year so I can play
competitive video games...
I guess i'd play UGC if I were american.

Of course, money is money and if you aren't making any of it then by all means it's probably wiser to save $60. We were talking about in situations where a person IS working (hence the comparisons to how many work hours $60 is).

Well i am trying to say that 60 dollars is quite a lot of money, if u worked hard for ur money u would realise this

I have a job and live independently, I'm well aware of how much $60 is. :/
However, the average TF2 Invite eSports player is probably doing well enough (usually by having a job, full or part time) to be able to manage $60 every so often...not to mention it's even less for the lower leagues ($30 for a season of Open by my estimation).
only invite is $60 guy idk why you think everyone is paying that
dude
i spent $5k building a huge pool in my backyard to pursue my swimming fetish and every summer I have to put in at least 1000 dollars towards general maintenance/pool chemicals/etc. not to mention the 250 i drop for the amount of water to fill it
i had to get that money by shucking corn out in the fields for two summers straight just to get enough cash
60 bucks every three months (especially money that goes towards making esea better and making the prize pool larger) is a fucking dream. Get over yourself and your European superiority delusion.

i've had multiple full time jobs for quite some time now, i'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume you fall victim to a minimum wage position if you're continuing to make a fuss about a mere $60...also you're completely contradicting yourself
and yes everyone is well aware that etf2l is free, congrats
i am playing in a league for free, only negatives of this league is that the prize pool is lower and there is no lan
that sounds very exciting....good lord where are you going with all of this, i hope you realize you're making a complete ass of yourself

yeah Marmie, I don't really understand why you're making an argument at all when your north american equivalent is playing in UGC, which is free...
I'm always up for having a reasonable discussion with Euros about the merits and downfalls of the North American and European leagues and play, but, every time I'm talking to someone that isn't a caster or a Div 1/Prem player, it always ends up being "Americans are dumb".
I know some other players in the divs lower than that who are pleasant, but I can't avoid noticing that the lower div players are the ones who have huge egos and flawed arguments.

That's a meatshot <|8)
why do these ugc-steel lever euros feel the need to come and post on tftv as to why they think esea/america sucks
if only you guys had some forums that werent completely devoid of any activity of higher level players
oh well
for the record nearly every prem/div1/div2 player ive come in contact with has been pleasant and fun to talk to/play with
this clown is div6, that's like arguing with a pubber/hat trader

Not to get off topic of bashing some random euro about $60, but what does a $5,000 pool look like?

you realize it is $60 for invite only right? Any "league" in most sports (correct me if I'm wrong) expect some kind of payment to participate, usually more money as you climb the ladder. For us open is $10 all the way to $60 in invite.

Yeah it is a bit of change but at the end of the day it is closer to 30$ for open which you would likely play in. Euros do also forget that although UGC isn't as good as ESEA, it isn't like there are no options for Americans to play free tf2.
I think $60 is okay considering the size of the prize pot NA invite has, but it might not seem so good when/if EU first gets an invite division and the prize pool is much less.

This.
1st- i miss understood that 60 dollars is only for invite
2nd - defy i think that taking skill in a game has nothing to do with money and how much im paying to play a video game, bashing on people for being less skilled then you at something is a pretty dick move
