Sad to hear Chairman and Founder of the Flyers, Ed Snider passed away today. The guy was a Flyer in every sense. Did so much for the organization and hockey in general. At least he got to see the boys make playoffs before he passed.
It's crazy, Lauren Hart was face timing him on the ice while she sang God Bless America on Saturday for the game against the Pens as he laid in his bed at home. This certainly makes the playoffs much more meaningful for the Flyers.

1975 Since the last cup, don't think its gonna happen anytime soon either. The Flyers are made up of a bunch of goons, even though its not as bad as it was a few years ago they are definitely still goons. I don't see them beating the Capitals in the first round and even if that happens they sure as hell aren't winning the cup.
I'm going with the Pens this year, ended the season winning 14 of 16 games, if you want to count the last one since they sat the star players too. No one can match their speed right now, and Malkin wasn't even in during that winning streak. Depending on when he comes back I wouldn't doubt it if he ended up being on the third line to make it 3 powerhouse lines. No way will he break up the Kessel, Hagelin, Bonino speed line.
Only thing holding the pens back is if our goalies are healthy.

I'm biased obviously since I'm a fan, but I have to disagree with you here. Will the Flyers win the cup this year? Most likely not. Will they win one soon? No way to know for sure, but looking at their current situation I'd say yes.
First off, the Flyers have Hextall as GM, who has done incredible things for the organization, and I suspect he'll continue to do so. Secondly, they have a whole herd of promising prospects waiting to make their appearance in the pros, many of which will help fill the void in our defensive end. Ivan Provorov, Travis Sanheim, Travis Konecny, Sam Morin, Robert Hagg, to name a few. Plus, Gostisbehere is up with the team now and is playing fantastic, hopefully he continues to do so and stay healthy. The Flyers goal tending situation is also wonderful at the moment. Steve Mason is underrated in my opinion and is a great tendy, and on top of that we have Neuvirth as a backup, who is an absolute stud. Of course none of this means they will win a cup in the next five years for sure, but you can't deny they have one of the best lineup of prospects out of any team in the league. I'd say they will definitely be a contender for the cup soon.
As far as these playoffs go, I think the Flyers are one of the last teams the caps would want to play in the first round. Caps are struggling a bit right now, and the Flyers are playing pretty damn good for the most part. I don't think the Flyers are a pushover in that series by any means. Caps definitely have a lot more talent all around, but I think from what we've seen this season, the Flyers can skate with them. Couturier will be key for the Flyers in shutting down Ovechkin. It'll be tough and physical, but the Flyers are a dangerous team. Now that Ed Snider has passed, I think that will just fuel them even more to play as hard as they can. Take it for what it's worth, but there are some stat nerds out there that have the Flyers beating the Caps in the first round as well.
You call the Flyers goons, I call the Pens a bunch of pussies. Wonderful rivalry, isn't it? The Flyers have weeded out the goons on the team. However, I can't deny the fact that the Pens have a lot of talent, are playing hot right now, and will certainly be a contender for the cup, especially when Fleury gets back in net. As a side note, you guys have a fantastic record without Malkin in the lineup.

Extremely sad to hear about Ed Snider. I met the man 2 times in the luxury seating booths at Flyers games. 1 time in the Spectrum like 15 years ago and the other in the Wells Fargo Center not that long ago. Both meetings he took the time to shake the hand of everyone in our party and talk with us. Was a really down to earth individual and had an amazing passion for the Flyers and hockey in general. A huge loss for the whole league.
Wouldn't it turn out to be one of the greatest sports stories in Philadelphia history if the underdog Flyers were able to being home a cup for Ed. Gives me chills just thinking about it coming true. RIP Snyder

That was the second maybe third game hes played all season, and the only reason he played was because we were resting players and they had to be replaced by someone for one game. Those 17 PIM were all at the same time and 5 were for fighting, 10 for a misconduct.
I thought it was funny when he hit White cause he's even uglier than Scott Hartnell was as a Flyer.

Your hate is refreshing and enjoyable. We should come back to this conversation after the first round. My guess is that when you lose to the Rangers, you are going to say "if only we had Fleury/Malkin/etc".

before I say anything else, gotta say how insane Ovie is for getting a hat trick in his last game to break 50 yet again, dude's so good and I love how he's changed himself over the years to become a better person and player
That being said, playoffs are for the most part a blah to me. Anyone who knows me knows I'm a huge hockey fan, but no Canadians really blows. When the only relevant team is a team that can't do anything without the best player on the planet, then you know the nation's got no hope :[
I've always been a low-key fan of the Blues, though, and I really hope they can do something this season. It sucks to play in the best division in hockey (by a very long shot), and I'm not too confident they'll beat Chicago since they always turn up for playoffs, but I'm hoping for the best. I'm thinking:
- Isles in 6. Florida won the series and the division, but Jagr's experience in playoffs alone won't help against the talent on NYI.
- Lightning in 7. Detroit is super resilient in playoffs, but Tampa has a ton of really good recent experience. Detroit will never have an uninteresting series in playoffs, and are without a doubt the #1 team every year for possible upsets.
- Capitals in 7. Caps definitely look better than they are what with winning the president's trophy (slumping lately), but they're still fantastic. Flyers somehow just show up in playoffs regardless of their season, though, so anything could happen.
- Penguins in 5. NYR are good, but Pittsburgh hit their stride later in the season (like 14 of the last 16 or something) and they should do a ton of work against New York. World class talent helps a ton in a best of 7.
- Kings in 4. San Jose never shows up in playoffs. Ever.
- Ducks in 5. Ducks, like the Penguins (BIRDS) showed up in the latter part of the season, but the Ducks did it for a lot longer. Their momentum should stomp on a mediocre Nashville team.
- Blackhawks in 6. I really want the Blues to finally win their long-deserving first cup, but the Blackhawks just never show up weak in playoffs and the Blues' goaltenders don't usually go ham. Elliott is the most underrated player I've ever seen, but he's never put in for a full series. Tarasenko will still be the second best player on the ice next to Kane, though.
- Stars in 4. Minnesota did well last season in the playoffs, but that was to a mediocre playoff Blues team. Dallas' offense is unstoppable vs a balanced team like Minnesota.
sorry I just love hockey so so much
EDIT: by the way I'm a habs fan, hope that doesn't render anything I've said invalid :(

What an awesome first game Blues vs Blackhawks. St. Louis seemed so much faster and crisp in OT, you could feel a goal was coming. Chicago was just trying to survive and got a bad bounce. Should be an insane series.
On another note, the Rangers have almost no chance if Lundqvist is out for the series.

Agreed to both of those statements. Even though the Hawks had a lot more shots on goal in that OT and the game in general, the play between them was either pretty even or slightly in the Blues' favour. Elliott was, as I figured, going ham though. It's really weird to say 0-0 games are exciting, but this one was pretty awesome.

To me,any tied game in the playoffs that reaches OT is exciting. Doesn't matter who is playing. I have been a goalie for as long as I can remember from way back in grade school through highschool and even now when I play in the old guy league. I don't mind a low scoring game at all, gotta go for the shutout :)

some really good opportunities for the flyers, Holtby is just too damn good. They're bound to pot one soon, just need to keep attacking the net

That could be fucking huge for the team. Voracek has been a non-factor since he came back. If he gets his confidence back and starts rolling we have a real chance in this series.

They did play well just like in game 1 but they can't give the caps powerplays. If they can't stay out of the box on stupid penalties then its not going to happen.

like this should not happen... ever.
