Jaguar says him but I don't think thats true..
"no your computers are *not* being used to mine. there was briefly a time when we explored the possibility of mining or letting users mine coins, but it was a joke by lpkane and the code was decidedly not used when we had discussed the issue further.
there was one issue regarding the subject that inadvertently occurred during a server restart very recently that i had to take care of, but that's NOT something that happened for very long, or for every user, and i made absolutely certain that will never happen again.
i formally apologize for the mistake in alarming any users, but there have been a number of updates recently regarding AC for the benefit of the community, and for that reason the servers have restarted several times recently leading to this overlook on my part."

Sad thing is they're still in the 'right' if you can even call it that from what I have been looking at through their ToS.. Pretty shady shit from a company that a lot of people have put time and effort into.

#22: cryptography based digital currency that can be created out of thin mathematical air but requires fucking ridiculous computational power to create any, so most of the time power consumption costs more than what you get out of "mining" new bitcoins.
bad summary so here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcoin#Bitcoin_mining

yes it's so hilarious that a company used their users computers for their own benefit without telling them it was happening. you'd be fine with me using your computer and electricity to mine coins for me? please do

Is this really legal? Taking control of the unknowing user's hardware to directly obtain/create an amount of currency?

Ipkane~2 btc, or roughly $280 usd at current exchange rates, not bad!
anyway, our bad, we just released a client update with the btc stuff removed, and your $280 is going into the s14 prize pot
Pretty cool I guess.

That's pretty much standard procedure in ToS. But alright

what they should have done was add mining as an opt-in option and claim the money goes back to the league, but end up pocketing it. Add a little extra money into the pot, but it'd be difficult for people to prove that all of the money isn't going into the league. "oh, not many people are opting in" ect
edit: CS players are quite the angry bunch too, shortage of people calling each other "kid" though :p

This to say the least is a BIT disturbing. -edit- sorry this pun was to good to pass up.
Honestly, I am glad I never took part in esea now don't know if I'll ever sign-up for esea after this either. Personally I feel that ESEA owes their subscribers more than "$280" which the subscribers have no way in knowing if it was that amount or more. Not to mention they did shorten the life of every gpu involved, plus increased everyones electric bill without prior notice.
This is almost as bad as what Infinite would do. (if not worse)
CEVO might just have a chance at becoming a top-league again if people get upset enough over it.
-edit 2-
People might be able to sue for Damages to hardware and increased Electric bills. What their ToS does is cover their asses from people suing for their subscription fees, not damages / increased cost of maintenance (from using their client as intended).
