tried 224hz tonight and it was slightly less smooth but definitely super crisp and much better motion blur reduction, do the vsync things really help in tf2? haven't tried anything but just setting a custom res to 1920x1080 at 224hz not sure what things will help in this game vs others that are harder to run

The vsync thing will only help if your monitor doesn't have GSync or FreeSync.

No you won't get the benefits of following OP's steps.
I recommend using GSync and capping your fps a few frames below your refresh rate. At 144hz you will want a 141fps cap (a 3fps differential). At low refresh rates (75Hz for example) you can use a differential of 1fps, but at 240hz you may want a bigger differential such as 5fps or 7fps. You should also enable VSync because when you're only using GSync + FPS Cap you will still have some tearing along the edges of your screen which VSync will fix.

Did the vertical total and frame cap tricks and it was actually very smooth and I found it slightly easier to kill scouts, will definitely stick with it for a bit and see if I still prefer it. Don't think you can do gsync with the strobing PureXP thing for my monitor but my frames were pretty consistent so it was good.

From some minor testing I'll keep this on for some scrims. Definately very smooth and no screentearing at all. I'm using benq xl2546 and capped the hz on 118.987. I don't really notice and input lag increase. I turned on fast sync in nvidia not sure if that had any impact. All in all thanks for the tip

When you have PureXP enabled you can't use Gsync/FreeSync.

#42 gsync/freesync with VRR is excellent if youre chasing both frames+clarity. His goal was maximum clarity which is why he reduced the resolution/hz down to eliminate interference between the pixels displayed/ing (crosstalk).
i recently picked up the S2522HG on its recent sale and decided that the additional smoothness/refresh rate beat out absolute clarity/crisp picture from creating a custom resolution. I take games too seriously tho so if i was to do more co-op/casual games more frequently i would absolutely make the change over.

Just curious, why are you bothering to set max_fps at all if RTSS is capping your framerate anyway?

Just curious, why are you bothering to set max_fps at all if RTSS is capping your framerate anyway?

8 months late and no clue if its still relavent, but what he is doing is setting the monitor refreshrate to 120 (more than likely 119.something, which is why he says it) and using Rivatuner (RTSS) to cap fps to (119.something - 0.01). Adaptive sync/gsync will not when manually setting monitor refreshrate, which is why gsync disappears from the control panel list. Capping fps to right at the monitors refresh rate removes excess frames which is what causes (most) of the input lag people talk about when using vsync. Large Vertical Total stuff, I can't make heads or tails of it just glancing through. GLHF if you take it on. Hopefully that helps anyone else that stumbles into this thread

Bought a 32in' g7 like 6-7 months ago, had a 10900k w/ 3070ti w/ default gsync enabled and it worked like a charm, nothing much more to be wanted. now back down to a i5 6600 w/ 1060 6gb driving the same monitor lmao.

Vsync on in game is required to benefit from using rtss, vsync fast in control panel alone seems to do nothing. BUT vsync fast vs on/"use application setting" makes a difference.
If you're just gaming buy a dell s2522hg or something around that area, this upgrade didn't make sense and still doesnt
IMO not going past 250$ budget wise until qd-oled/miniled/the cool new shit starts really coming out and in sensible sizes. if youre an arizona and interested in buying some tech msg me on steam ;) (not u elijah)
