I find TF2 to be a valuable addition to my life because it provides me a low stakes environment to iron out flaws in my character and mindset that otherwise would carry into more important aspects of my life. Do you find value in different places? Discuss!
the real Team was the friends I made along the way
tf2 has been a really important escape for me throughout my teen years
being forced to work together with people from all over europe (and the rest of the world to a lesser extent) has taught me many very valuable lessons about who i am and how different people can be

has to be the movement, nothing like it that isnt just quake. other games feel awful to play by comparison.
nothing really, i'd be a better person if i'd engaged in things with people in person or developed more interesting hobbies
i do like speaking with people from different countries but those relationships are pretty shallow

your improvement is really easily noticeable, I watch demos from 3-6 months ago and it looks like a completely different person playing the game
there's also a lot to improve on which is another positive IMO

I was going to say the same thing.
Improvement feels manageable compared to some other competitive games like Street Fighter, Quake, DOTA, or Counter Strike. You can go from Amateur to Advanced in a year if you get the right mentoring and practice consistently. It's hard to do that with some of those other games I listed because the skill gap is so big across ranks and the gap gets larger and larger the higher the rank, it can feel like you get stuck in Intermediate Hell for a long time, and it's not abnormal to be stuck there.
Catching up with higher skilled players in TF2 doesn't feel impossible, and yet, the skill ceiling is really, really high. It's a nice balance.

i had very little interest to keep playing once my friends quit
I've been playing it with my brother nonstop for 11 years.
I like to make friends and hang out with said friends. I also like playing the game and doing well, with previously mentioned friends.
I’ve always been able to find something “new” about the game to entertain me. This time last year about it was creators, and then I met friends irl who played the game and we played for awhile, and now I play a ton of MVM while flirting with the idea of finally playing comp rather than just being a spectator.
There’s so much to do besides just constantly pubbing and I’ve been playing so long (and watching others play for longer) that to me, it’s a source of nostalgia and enjoyment that I can’t really consistently get in other games, even if they do hold my intense interest for a short time. I always end up coming back to TF2.

I enjoy having something to do everyday and TF2's gameplay is hard to imitate
There isn't any other good multiplayer FPS games on the market. Either tactical shooters (R6, Val, CSGO) or battle royales (Apex, fortnite, warzone). Which I don't like 0.1s time to kill and sluggish movement in tactical shooters and I don't like running around the map doing nothing and the random loots in battle royales.
The other AFPS games (QC, QL, DBT) tend to have big problems. QC has bad engine and is in permenant early access. QL has tons of veteran players so as a new player you get your shit kicked in and get shittalked alot, which isn't fun. Diabotical has a low playerbase, I really wish that it wasn't an epic store exclusive and was on steam.
TF2 has good movement, combat, improvement feels rewarding and nothing released recently can match it for me.

The value was always in the experience, it was always fun to play. Got it with the orange box on consoles when that came out and just was hooked. Then when I got it during the mac update, and to my surprise could actually run it on my MacBook, it just became a big thing with friends in college playing it. Going home after classes and everyone coming over and playing was just amazing. Now I don’t really get anything close that, but at this point it’s just hard to replicate anything I get out of this game, nothing really seems as fun. It’s not so much what value I get out of tf2, it’s the lack of value I get out of other multiplayer games.
the amount of customization available for everyone is insane, how 2 peoples games can look completely different
no other game i know allows you this much freedom with cosmetics, huds, crosshairs etc

making/fiddling with huds got me into coding properly. I had the idea for my hud combiner tool when I was like 12/13, but I wasn't good enough at coding to make it so it motivated me to learn more. Now I have a degree in computer science. Hud fiddling also got raysfire to go into compsci in college, I bet there are more...
