TF2center was how I first got introduced to both 6s and highlander and I think a lot of people have had a similar experience. While I'm sure people will work hard to make an alternative/s - without the "big name" and popularity of the site attached I think less new players will find them or gain interest in them. Lobbies are the main way that casual players can get into comp as trying to join teams off the bat is daunting and very difficult without that basic level of experience. I hope something good can get created from all this but I wouldn't be surprised if we see the number of new open players/teams dwindle even more than they have in recent years.
Good. Hopefully better alternatives will be what introduces new players to competitive TF2. TF2Center was a shithole of admin abuse - I think a third of all high level players I know have been or are banned from tf2center, but not a single warning or ban on rgl
reliving the nostalgia of forcing everyone after the first 10 queued to volunteer medic
in all seriousness, i wouldnt have even known that tf2 was played competitively were it not for the people i was pubbing with at the time inviting me here

cookieMaybe masternoob will whitelist the word tf2stadium so that people on tf2center can actually find out about it.
it would be really convenient if there was a handy url that you could send to people wherever (something like newlobbysite.com maybe?) that would forward to tf2stadium. just a thought though. would be a waste of $12 if someone were to do it. i would never.

what about that is more convenient than just typing tf2stadium.com? i think the play would be to try to grab the tf2center domain and have it do the redirects

this is for sharing on tf2center and in lobbies, as the phrase "tf2stadium" is blacklisted on that chat last time i checked. we never fought it when center was active because that was a choice they had the power to make

I doubt MN would hand over the domain to redirect it to tf2stadium though. using a different URL that is not censored on tf2center chat to redirect to stadium is a better option.
Edit: Keep in mind that center censored other websites and words, so for instance pugchamp.gg , if you have champ on your steam name, you won't even be allowed to login unless you remove that word from your name....

I know it isnt a full substitute but if you guys are still looking for web based low stakes tf2 i will revive the Faceit Tf2hub.
Hopefully it will help fill the gap left by this service disappearing.
Here is the link to the hub
https://www.faceit.com/en/hub/218d5088-9202-4b9c-92c1-f813d9bdf185/PugHub%206's
Unfortunately it wont have substitutes like tf2center could and has mmr so it may end up not being the same vibe but its the least I could do

tf2c was really cool because it was something where someone could just go into comp for the first time ever and no matter what their performance was like, no one would really care and people would usually help them if they asked for it. Hopefully whatever alternative shows up can mirror that feeling where someone can just say "fuck it I'll try comp today".
That being said, it was pretty easy to realize that a lot of the games were pretty garbage tier. between off-classing, obvious throwing, terrible weapon use etc. To me that made tf2c an important stepping stone into comp, but not someone most people could really stick to unless they were ok with really poor quality games and inconsistent application of the rules.

Lazy support, lack of interest in a lazy ownership. They had plenty of chances of improving things, instead they settled into auto pilot (and don’t tell me fuckin otherwise because you didn’t do shit, you let that forum die support wise so damn early it’s frustrating) you settled into half baked / auto moderation, you let pug groups on discord pickup what you couldn’t, the time put into this site and it’s longevity (let alone it’s DELCLINE is mental). Idk where any of you guys stand, any of you that started this, that ran it into its end, it’s unfair for this community. Floormaster failed us, but you gave us false hope and then some. Well done.
treess"tf2center is an insult to human dignity. With or without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes tf2center." -mojo

I wanted to take the opportunity to thank MasterNoob for keeping the site running all these years. Yes, he was not very involved in the last years anymore but whenever something needed fixing to keep the site operational, he stepped up despite a very busy schedule. That level of commitment over almost 10 years is something to celebrate, even if the site had problems recently.
He has been a huge credit to the team for the TF2 Competitive Scene.

I only became a moderator on TF2center relatively recently and I know there were a lot of bans before me, so I may be biased. But what I observed is that there was a strong correlation between high level players and toxic behaviour towards inexperienced players, fooling around, offclassing etc. Probably because they took TF2center less seriously because "its just a lobby". The same players could suddenly behave in advanced lobbies on the same site where more was expected of them - as is probably the case on rgl.

I was at MasterNoob's this summer and we discussed it, not as in me buying it, just my thoughts on him pulling the plug.
He's been looking for someone to take over and buy the whole thing for a while because he hasn't had the same interest in the site as he once had.

As a lobby lord, I can honestly say I've helped countless new players in regards to directing them towards newbie mixes/leagues to play in. Hopefully the community as a whole moves over to tf2stadium as I really like their website.
End of an era.

I made newlobbysite.com to bypass that. if center is going down in a couple days, I can't imagine anyone there caring. But I don't expect they will go out of their way to un-blacklist "tf2stadium"
