They moved it to the 30th.
It's Valve, there is little point of trying to keep a date straight with them. But thanks for the info
Make sure to back up your maps, configs, hud, etc. before you forget!

This is a guide written by AnimaL on what to back up, what will break and where everything will be after the update.

EDIT: Also, the switch to Steampipe is going to break the SDK, so mapmakers beware.

do you really have to backup your maps? Can't you just re-download them?

you could but it's probably easier to back them up. less likelihood of stuff breaking.

Well to add to #6, I have TEN gbs of maps, and 30 gb of space left on my hard drive (don't make fun of me) so I don't really want to backup 10gb of maps haha.
I'm pretty sure your maps remain in the original folder, or are moved to Downloads.
Anyone know if every TF2 installation on a computer has to be converted at once? I'd like to try things out with Steampipe but I don't want to be locked out of everything else.

I tried it, the beta is shit at the moment, you are forced to play on beta servers, and there's only like 10, 1 of which I have ever seen players on. You can't play on non-steampipe servers.

Remember that the TF team said you should have room for at least 2 TF2 installations for the conversion to take place.

How can you live with only 30GB left?

You might want to back up any demos you plan on using in the future. My only guess is they'll be wiped too. And back up p-rec.
RikachuHow big is TF2 right now?
It's around 10 GB right now
you'll need around 20 GB worth of free space

its supposed to be like 2 gb less after steampipe

this was my first time hearing of steampipe... thanks for the heads up lol
should I basically just back up my entire tf folder?
anyone knows if the chris config will work in steampipe?, i heard somewhere that it won't work anymore
AFAIK you need to backup your cfg, materials, maps, resource, scripts folders. Read the etf2l link above for a good run down.
Indimanshould I basically just back up my entire tf folder?
no, because you'll be backing up too many unnecessary files. just back up what you need to and let steam do the rest.

A clean SteamPipe TF2 installation with nothing saved over is slightly more than 6 GB, afaik.
Lawena is gonna need an update, AFAIK it flat out doesn't work with the SteamPipe converted TF2 yet.

Q: PREC doesn’t work?
A: Yes, looks like it doesn’t :( Other plugins however seem fine.
We need this to get a headsup/update too then O;

Actually you only need to backup your cfg files.
All of the custom map, hud, sound, material files will be moved to tf\download folder in the new tf2 steampipe folder (which is located at <your account name>\common\team fortress 2\tf\download\)
What you need to do after the conversion is done:
1. Copy back your cfg files to new tf folder
2. Create a new folder in <your account name>\common\team fortress 2\tf\custom\<your folder here> (could be anything eg. mycustommods)
3. Move all files and folder in the <your account name>\common\team fortress 2\tf\download\ (which should be including maps, huds, custom sounds, models, materials)to the new folder you just created - mycustommods)
4. Profit.
