It really disappoints me that we don't have a map that has the same red tones that badlands does. We have other desert maps like gully but there's nothing like badlands or pl_phoenix. I've always thought badlands was the coolest looking map.

i would like some sort of borderlands tf2 mashup where i could play 6v6 on arid badlands
i always wondered why pro versions of snowy maps didnt use the badlands theme, it looks so much more interesting than alpine dirt, and the shit that was buried in snow before doesn't look so weird when its buried in sand instead of dirt
i recently found worms hud so its been kinda cool playing pugs with it

I always figured it was for that "thawed out" look and so you wouldn't have to change many props. You can keep the rocks the same grey color, and you don't have to get rid of any of the trees. I would wager it also means people have to do less work to the skybox as well. I think people also just think Alpine is prettier than Badlands. You would know more than me though, I'm not a mapper.
I think Coldfront and Viaduct would look odd with the Badlands theme. I think Barnblitz and Snowycoast might actually look better, but I also just hate playing them either way, "pro version" or not.

I tought the argument was always player recognistion. Red team stand our less against the red backgrounds of some maps, not gonna say I personally agree with the extent to which this matters but it makes sense.
I made this diagram to show,
