All of this math is incorrect. :P

There's development costs for features for the subscription program and a transaction cost. 50/50 is extremely fair.

After watching Ruwin's stream, I would absolutely subscribe to him. Truktruk is another streamer I would sub to in a heartbeat.

This is something we are considering.

Of course!

I love me some streams :D TF2 streamers dont cease to amaze me

Actually the last one I "tried" was carnage last week or something, I was actually quite impressed, I knew the guy had been off for some time but the stream was seriously funny, entertaining and even insightful. Maybe it was my slightly drunkenness talking but I loved that stream. So yeah, I would definitely look forward to support some people

Many streams on twitch streams games that are highly popular right? TF2 is still the 2nd most populated game on Steam, and back then when it was still being of F2P, it was amazingly big and populated. I think people deserve the chance to have the ability to subscribe to these competitive TF2 streams, as not only will the viewers grow more, but ultimately helping out the TF2 scene and Twitch!

At the moment we are the only stream in Russia (http://www.twitch.tv/lustig_dikker/), who is trying to stream some competitive TF2 and our russian-speaking community is not large enough to meet all requirements for partner program. It will be great if you can help somehow. And sorry for my english :-). Thank you.

Again, there's a significant cost associated with partnering channels/bandwidth for transcodes, etc. Our standard requirements are 300 + concurrent viewers. I'm willing to give a little for TF2 out of my undying love, but I need to see at least 150-200 concurrent viewers average before it makes sense.

With variable amounts I'd sub Pledge (despite just streaming during work hours, slacker), numlocked, blackout and VanillaTV of course.

Positives = Streamers get money, Viewers / Fans can show appreciation for the hard work put in, Twitch gains more revenue from TF2 prompting possible further collaboration (nothing major just... you know what I mean).

Downsides = none?

So in conclusion, I say yes; it would be good.

while we're on the subject, please consider subscribing to the TFTV twitch channel:

http://www.twitch.tv/teamfortresstv

all of the money goes directly to compensating our casters and cameramen (I don't take any of it)

I'd subscribe to a few people.
One of the issues I can foresee is the people that GET 200-300 viewers are usually VERY sporadic streamers. But I trust @johnsfatcock's judgement on it, so i'd be down to sub.

I gotta say though, streams have been laggy for me for the past 3 months or so at anything above 360p. I know a lot of other Europeans have the same issue.

I believe that increasing the revenue they generate will help with motivation. It's a lot more work than folks think. Trying to be entertaining for 5 hours straight is tough.

I'm definitely aware of that, I tried my hand at it a few times. It's hard to be entertaining even if you're knowledgeable and having fun. Even 1-2 hours is difficult.
That's why I watch, after all.

I would sub to a good 5 or 6 streamers and a lot more if others had the motivation to stream but sadly it's expensive as fuck for a child so i can't.

TwitchTVJohnOur standard requirements are 300 + concurrent viewers

There are a handful of people who actually already fit this category assuming they actually keep streaming a good amount (aka banny and ruwin)

Subs would be an interesting thing to see for tf2, but as is if you just want to support your favorite streamers it seems like donating directly is a better idea. Unless there's custom smileys or sub only stuff that people start doing (like sub only pugs or something) then there's little incentive to actually sub to someone other than out of the kindness of your heart. Not that that's necessarily bad or anything, but at least for diablo streams and things like that the streamers will do sub only events (giveaways, sub only boss runs, stuff like that), so it would be a good idea to think of something analogous in tf2 before you went ahead and invested the resources in it.

would be cool if it was a variable subscription amount.

Fun Non-Researched Fact : At $4.99 / mo, you only need about 640 people to subscribe to make the equivalent of minimum wage! Dark days are over for us Dad!!!

AFAIK you get access to a custom icon next to your name on the specific stream along with access to custom emotes associated with that stream that you can post anywhere. Which is way better than donating directly because it gives the streamer incentive to stream as much as possible rather than just take your money and potentially completely stop streaming as soon as they reach their "goal".

Either way I think subscriptions are pretty neat I guess. I've ranted on stream as to why I don't like the idea of asking for money a few times, but at least with subscriptions both parties get something out of it.
