please answer with your own opinion! Canadian society considers murder our most serious crime. Assuming the death penalty is not an option, what sentence do you think is appropriate for those convicted of first-degree murder?
i always imagine surfing when i see the word waterboarding so to me it seems like such a happy word
have secret assassins to murder them before they go to trial to make it seems like someone just wanted revenge as opposed to the death penalty
Incarceration with rehabilitation through (psycho)therapy and education. If they do have a mental disorder stopping them from being helpful to society regardless then keep them locked up but research them
wcastration
Not actually a bad idea as long as there's a proven risk of their criminal disposition being genetically passed down
You may want to look up Bastøy and Halden Prison in Norway for what I believe the future of prisons should be

The right idea.

spend the rest of your life in jail and work for your food.
In my opinion, if a human is murdered there's no reason to murder another one. Or effectively murder another one by sentencing to life in prison. I know people will disagree, but forgiveness and rehabilitation is the best option IMO.
In all honesty, you have to look at the fact that long prison sentences (15y<) actually cost a lot for the government that is instituting them. The same goes for rehabilitation efforts. This is probably the only reason why I would condone the death penalty, simply because, if I were convicted of murder, and it was legally obvious that I did it, I would rather die then spend the next 60 years of my life in a prison, then die in one.
That's just a normal prison, high- and maximum security prisons, as well as solitary confinement are some of the most inhumane things in existence. People don't function well without other people.
Though rehabilitation is a good concept, makes sense and the number of people in prisons, as well as crime rates do see a decrease with rehabilitation programs in action, rehabilitation programs open up an even more "revolving door" type criminal justice system, the more relaxed a system there is, the more reason for someone who's been to a prison before to go back than to get a job. This isn't entirely an argument against human morals, but it has to be considered.
tl;dr Replace hopelessly long prison sentences with the death penalty because I'm a cynical idiot.

These aren't reasons to murder murderers. These are reasons to have a 100x better law enforcement system that PREVENTS crime rather than discouraging it.

25-to life. Why would anyone ever think the death penalty is a viable punishment for anything just boggles me... murder for murder doesn't solve anything, that being said i don't wish prison on my worst enemy
what about giving those convicted the choice? honestly, if faced with life with no parole, i would prefer the death penalty.
edit: im sure most people know this, but convicting someone of the death penalty costs more than life incarceration.

somewhat off topic, I watched the movie Felon last night. It was pretty good, but I wonder how twisted some prisons actually are.
move them to a crappy island full of dangerous animals.
Then they'll learn their lesson, right?

Death penalty actually costs a lot, they even say it costs more than prisoning the person for entire life.
