Does it spin and light up?

No, it's not doing anything. I'm afraid I might have bought a dead HDD but I'm really hoping I didn't. My old HDD sorta vibrates and shit when my PC is one, whereas my new HDD doesn't do anything whatsoever. Not sure what you mean by "light up" as my old one doesn't even do that.

I remember this happening when my brother bought his new computer, and all he had to do was go to Disk Management and turn on the drive there and then it worked perfectly.

It's not detected there.

Does it have power? It probably does, but might as well ask (there should be two cables, SATA and power)
edit: If you used the exact same cables then it almost definitely does.

It came with a flat black/red cable (can't remember which one it came with and which one I already had lol) and then a short bundle of SATA cables.

But yeah, I mean I even used the cables I had with my old HDD to try and nothing happened. I tried my new cables with my old HDD and it was detected.

Do you have any other sata controllers or different computers to try the disk?

Did you purchase new or refurbished btw?

Is the disk larger than 2tb?

What motherboard do you have?

Also check whether you need to download new drivers. Search for your motherboard and see whether there are any SATA downloads for it - I had to download the available "JMicron Controller Driver" before my second drive was recognised.

If you have both cable plugged in at both ends, and it isn't even spinning, then I don't know, try switching plugs on the motherboard/psu?

Happened to me and I had to do some voodoo shit to get it to work, something about going into console for the windows installation, no idea.

And #10 Can you direct me to the correct page where I would download the proper drivers? Not too smart when it comes to shit like this. Not necessarily sure what drivers I have to DL exactly.

So I'm pretty sure Newegg sent me the wrong one. On my Newegg order it states - 1 x Seagate ST310005N1A1AS-RK 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

So 3.0Gb/s, which is what I'm looking for. The box, however, says "system requirements - 6Gb/s SATA interface connector or motherboard or add-in card (backward compatible to SATA 3GB/s)"

I'm not sure if I have an "add-in card" but something tells me I don't. If I did, then I would probably be able to get this working. Did they send me the wrong item? I feel like they did.

That particular hard-drive is filled with DOA (dead-on-arrival) drives. Also you don't need to have an add-in card to convert a SATA 6GB to 3GB.

You definitely have yourself a dead drive if it doesn't even power on at all.

Well 6Gb/s HDDs should work fine (and not be slowed at all, actually) in a 3Gb/s port. I'll look up the drivers now.

Well, if downloading new drivers doesn't work, then I'm absolutely sure I bought a dead HDD.

I've been helping Kirb with this for about 2 hours now. Things I've had him do:

-Go into Disk Management and see if he can see it, he can not see it.
-Go into his Bios and look for it in the Boot Menu, he can not see it.
-He even switched the cables with his old HD and went back into Bios and he could not see the HD (rules out him connecting the HD wrong).
-He said he hears no sound and feels no vibrations from it.

He has a box for a 6.0Gb/s (sata 3) HD, but we can not even tell if it's actually a 6.0Gb/s drive, or the 3.0Gb/s one that he ordered, because there's no label on the HD. I believe that all Sata's are backwards-compatible though, so that wouldn't matter anyway.

They probably sent him a 'refurbished' HD, trying to give him a free upgrade while also taking a previously dead HD off their hands.

Couple of quick questions:

OS (and 32/64 bit)?
Are you trying to swap out an old HDD for a new one, or have them running together?

I'd pretty much call it DOA and send it back. Not surprised as it is seagate. Also having no label on the disk raises some alarms.

Didn't someone above say they had to DL new drivers in order for it to show up in BIOs?

I had to download new SATA controller drivers before I could use it, but I can't recall whether it was visible in BIOS before that. I'm unfamiliar with your motherboard's SATA controllers (hell, I don't even really know what I'm talking about) so I'll defer to jp_ here.

The lack of a label on the HD I would find very concerning.

and see whether those drivers help (that package contains sata drivers)

EDITEDIT: I would still just call it DOA, but if another one displays these symptoms you might try these drivers.

1. You need sata controller drivers if you're on AHCI/RAID.
2. You have no trouble with other drives on the computer
3. Your motherboard has no other sata controllers except the one provided by nvidia.
