HRG LAN Fundraiser

Hello community,

We are well aware the community has a limited supply of generosity, so I'm going to keep this simple and honest. The total cost of our flights to ESEA Lan will be $2450. Our sponsor, HRG, has given us $200 to start off, with an additional $500 pledged but not guaranteed. With this in mind, we have used up the fourth place prize money to take the cost from $2450 to $950.

What we need to help cover the costs of the rest of the flights + hotel + shuttle transportation to/from the hotel: $500

We do not want to take advantage of the community considering other teams are able to make it to the lan without community support, so here's what we promise in return for helping us get to lan.

Donate $10 or more:
+ Receive a 1 month ESEA Premium Code (first 10 people that are interested)
+ Recieve 1 on 1 mentoring from any HRG player
+ Weapon signing from any HRG player
Donate $20 or more:
+ All of the perks of donating $10
+ Receive an HRG POV Demo Pack immediately after i49, containing every player's pov demos from ESEA S14 Lan and the i49 event
Donate any amount:
+ Entered into raffle for signed HRG mousepad (including all players)
+ Priority for roundtable/AMA stream, we will give your questions/topics priority
+ Entered into roundtable raffles
+ Name displayed in the i49 mini-documentary Shade will be developing

In addition, Shade will be doing a stream event on his twitch channel, which will include a full team roundtable, in which we will answer community questions. It will also include various game streams (TF2, Binding of Issac, Starcraft 2) and raffles to donators including steam games and TF2 items.

If you do not feel like these donation incentives are relevant to you, do not feel obligated to donate anyway. We realize the amount we're asking for is still considerably more than what other teams may ask for ($0), so this donation drive is not a "you should help us get to LAN", but rather "if you are interested in any of the donation incentives and want to support us in return, then consider donating".

If you have any questions about any of the details for this donation drive, feel free to either post here or message me on IRC in #tf2.pug.na.
We sincerely appreciate your generosity,
HRG

what exactly do you need for i49? i've been there so there's no need to try and bullshit. the train fare from birmingham international to the event is like $10.

you have your plane tickets, hotel, and PCs paid for.

regarding esea: seriously?

I mean I get why tri hards are doing it (two Canadians + roster problems), but you guys?

1. you're booking 2 weeks before LAN when the date/location was announced at the beginning of the season and your LAN spot was guaranteed halfway through
2. you have a sponsor
3. cyzer is the only Canadian
4. you're likely getting first

and just so we're all clear here, this is what the prize breakdown looks like this season :

A team that is going to either take first or second place that also has a sponsor does not need the community's help to pay for ESEA LAN. Even if you take second you can still pay for all of the LAN's expenses and still make a profit with the exception of your single Canadian, who would be losing roughly ~100 dollars while the rest of his team makes money.

shadeOur sponsor, HRG, promised that they would be able to provide $700 for i49 to help buffer the expenses that could not be covered through the community fundraiser alone (the extra time staying there would be out of our own pockets).

While Trihards is struggling to make flights with two canadian players and a questionable placement at ESEA lan, you're using your sponsor's money to hang out in europe AFTER i49 lan, and you still have the balls to ask the community for donations?

Disgusting.

Went out to dinner right after making the post. But ill be on my newly fixed up stream tonight when I get home to answer some questions regarding the fundraiser and specifically the parts that I will be working on producing ( stream and i49 docu and footage)

Also to clarify for the mentioned stream event, ill be co hosting a 24 hour stream a thon with mad "hero" chad and Edwin "mythical" gay, in a LAN setting from my house.

Also one last thing... Lansky wrote the post. Minus frag him when he posts. Don't minus frag the messenger :(

brizzWhy do you need help getting to lan? Seems like you guys have everything paid for already?

As I understand it sponsor + 4th place cash covers all but $500 of their ESEA LAN expenses. Then winnings from ESEA LAN will pay for whatever the extra i49 costs are.

I at least appreciate that they made it clear in their post: this is only for people interested in the perks offered. I could see many people kicking in 10 bucks to get 1 on 1 mentoring.

I don't see a problem with this... If you want an opportunity for some mentoring or a chance for some HRG memorabilia, this is your chance. Did you guys READ the whole thing? Its not like you clicked on this thread and your entire bank account was automatically emptied. Rational thinking pleaseeeee.

Still though, this doesn't seem very fair to the community.

I could never support someone who requires money but refuses to sell their unusuals (which is after all, just a bunch of pixels).

If you require money that badly, the first thing to go would be some virtual pixels.

I hope you guys understand that the majority of people here are in exactly the same or even worse financial situations than you, we're mostly just college/uni guys with part-time jobs and maybe a handful of guys with full time jobs but with added responsibilities of maybe a mortgage or larger rent, etc.

The aus guys are going to Europe with around 3k out of their pockets and no sponsors. You guys have your flights paid for entirely plus sponsor money plus ESEA winnings. And this is coming off the back of the AU fund, NA fund, ghost fund.

It seems in this community we have funds every month and we give because for the most part it's for a good cause, but this seems like it's milking it way too much.

Although a breakdown of these numbers would be nice, I feel like this sufficiently conveys the fact they're not desperate for money:

shadeIf you do not feel like these donation incentives are relevant to you, do not feel obligated to donate anyway. We realize the amount we're asking for is still considerably more than what other teams may ask for ($0), so this donation drive is not a "you should help us get to LAN", but rather "if you are interested in any of the donation incentives and want to support us in return, then consider donating".

They don't need your money, and they've made that pretty clear, so if you don't feel like donating don't.

Damn... it's great that we have a really generous community with some really nice people and all, and it's great that people are willing to donate if they can, but am I the only one that thinks these "please pay for my vacation to Texas!" threads after every single season is getting a bit ridiculous?

I mean, seriously, if you're consistently on a top invite team season after season, you know you're probably going to make LAN and have at least like 4 months to start saving. You guys do have jobs right?

TLDR: quit taking advantage of the community every single season and begging them to pay for your vacation, yo.
