ESEA can give itself a say actually. Though they usually care more about invite matches, I don't doubt them taking things into their own hands if it happens for a bad reason.

Unfortunately there is no known way to easily stop DDoS, it's a problem that's being researched intensively by computer science majors and it's something that affects not only our league but a lot of companies along the globe.

I actually doubt that companies that assure to prevent DDoS attacks and charge a huge amount of money for their solutions can actually ensure to stop DDoS's effectively and even if ESEA were to apply some DDoS protection system it would probably make the league fees skyrocket since none of this companies offer a cheap solution.

So far, and until someone develops a good open source system to stop DDoS attacks, it's up to each one of us to ensure that our IPs are secured so that we don't get DDoSed. For which I suggest the following:

- Beware of IRC clients giving away your IP when auto connecting to a network.
- Beware of Skype giving away your IP when directly calling a peer.
- Ban bape from everything everywhere.
- Do not under any circumstance play in a server owned by bape.

Just a few simple steps that will help you go through open playoffs a bit more safely.

More like a few simple things that would have had no impact whatsoever on the outcome of this match.

This particular attack was just the esea server itself. The players as individuals were not being ddos'd, rather the server we were playing on was.

If it was Bape, you could ban him from every server, site, irc, etc you could think of, but as long as he has an internet connection, he, like anyone else, could gather the resources to do this shit.

Also you can log into irc with +x mode, but that only prevents your ip from being shown when you join. It's extremely easy to get someones IP just for using irc in general, wether you autoconnect or not.

Basically, to sum this up, there's nothing simple about any of this. I think this could have been easier to deal with, but I think that only be taking preventative measures would that be true.

The fact is, this has happened in the past for open finals. As players who watch this game and should remember that, perhaps we are at fault for not speaking up and doing something about it.

As an organization/company who has fallen victim to this before, are they even more at fault for not being responsible and learning from the past? Honestly at this point I don't really care. Me and my team really want a break, we want to win our measly sum of prize money, go enjoy whatever left we have after paying our fees, and then go take some time off to relax. I just want ESEA to fucking fix this shit so that can happen.

Well, unless ESEA can offer effective DDoS protection on their servers, they should allow matches being DDoS'ed to be played off-client like lazypanda suggested. Sure, it's not very professional, but it's even less professional to have finals ruined by idiots.

As for players getting DDoS'ed, well, best they can do is try to hide their IP. Maybe connect to irc only through a VPN, or, better, get a dynamic IP that they can change right before a match.

Isn't it usually DoS rather than DDoS? You can deal with DoS. And if it's one kid, you just go around to his house and talk to him in front of his parents.

insomWhen it happened to our team last season we had to go through a lot of prevention measures. Sadly I don't think ESEA cares enough to do anything so it's going to be on both teams to use different mumbles and protect themselves. Sorry to hear you guys might not get your players :(. Hopefully it all works out and we see a good finals.

It seems that they care (at least, for CS:GO)

It's a shame this happened. Hopefully they can find out who did it, and punish them.

I didn't mean to phrase it in a way that implied you were behind the attacks. Just curious.
