whenever i go into mge, i get stomped pretty hard. im always nervous and can never get a grip on the situation, im all over the place, shaking and jittering. but whenever i play something other than mge i do fine, not nervous, i feel under control, calm and focused. any tips on staying calm during mge?
Realize you are going to get shit on by other players no matter what you do and accept it, not because you are bad, but because of how many unrealistically good players there are. Your not there to prove anything to anybody, just focus on hitting your shots.
Maybe just change your steam name when you play. That way, no matter who you verse and how hard you get stomped, people won't know who you are. Realistically though, even if you use your normal name in-game, you shouldn't really give two-shits what people think. You're there to improve, not impress.
drive slow homie
i know it might not be the best advice, but honestly just tell yourself to stop caring. its mge, anything can happen if you allow it. put on some chill music and sit comfortably. you'll be good in no time.

mge is the most important thing in your life. You die if you lose. Now go and win, your life depends on it. I hope I made you a bit calmer :3
Realize that MGE is a practice mod and there's no reason to be nervous. The same people who care about MGE are the ones with a desire to impress others by cheating on alts.

Yes
I just only play MGE in 2v2 servers, but with one person. Gives it a more casual feel, no points whatsoever. Of course, if you can play with friends instead of randoms, that's always better.
type in chat !hud so you don't have to care about points, then type in console hud_saytext_time 0 so you dont have to read trash talk, then type in console voice_enable 0 so you dont have to hear trash talk.
Get better. I used to be nervous in mge and jitter but as you play you get used to it and stop being all twitchy n shit so just ignore it and focus on getting better the adrenaline goes away. Also if u got low blood sugar that could be a reason so eat more i guess
edit: ok for the people that don't understand what i'm saying: without experience you won't be able to not get excited/nervous when playing great players.
Example: You play someone you know is in a higher division like tlr or something.
Just keep playing and it'll go away. not lying but MGE DOES get into people's heads. It will make you think stupid things and feel psychologically uneasy. Especially when they start trashtalking. So just get through with this portion aim to get better and it'll get easier with time.

If you get nervous and jittery in MGE you will get nervous and jittery other places as well. What you need to do is play through it and focus on relaxing if you can. The only real fix for this is experience, over time it will get better and your focus will improve.
If you ever plan on going to a competitive LAN you will feel the same there, so this type of practice can help you stay relaxed. This is one of then biggest reasons why people talk about having "LAN experience" as well, because you can get used to it once you know what to expect.
TLDR; practice through it, do your best, stay positive!
P.S. the point of MGE is to lose; once you find a person who can beat you you should play them as much as possible, struggle to work out why they can beat you and think of ways you can improve so you can beat them.
P.S.S. Don't be a baby, play on your main account under your actual name and don't give a shit who beats you.

You should begin by realising tf2 isn't really a competitive game, ESPORT or whatever you want to call it. Stop worrying about what others think about you or your skill because it doesn't really matter. Having fun matters. I understand being good is part of having fun, and if you're good you'll most likely have fun, but there's plenty of other ways you can have fun. Don't be stressed <3
I know this will get minusfragged because I'm posting this on the home of competitive tf2, but the reality is you shouldn't care about how good you are but have fun. At the end of the day, being the best is fun and I can see how being really good can make you feel good, knowing that your time in the game is going to good use but if you're seriously at the point where you're shaking then it's some serious confidence issues about worrying what the other person is thinking about you.
Realise that there's no reason or incentive to be the best besides self-motivation/fulfillment, and there's much better things you can do with your time than be the best at MGE. There is no reason to stress, the top players in this game make nearly no money off spending thousands of hours on this game. If someone shit talks you can always remind them they've spent wasting thousands of hours to boost their e-ego. You'll get better eventually, just don't stress while you get there.
That being sad 90% of people won't shit talk unless
- You do stuff like hide under the bridge / house on a map like badlands middle.
[list]Just try to annoy your opponent by doing stupid things while getting rolled.
[list]Use a direct hit, since it's pretty much a one shot kill

I use this when i'm playing dm/mge. I get way more bothered than I should when a scout kills me with sub 5 hp.

so many good points already, but if you're playing to improve, and mge becomes too taxing, you can try organised pugs (aka not tf2lobby), or do something else (stretch, walk around, go for a run). it's kinda bad to keep at it when you know or you think youre getting angry, because then you wont be improving/learning much.
i often find that if im angry, i cant think about the game effectively. focus on thinking about the present, nothing more, nothing less. if you find that youre slipping, attach a post it note on your monitor or somewhere easy to see.

Stay cool, playa. Always stay cool. There is no computer, there are no players, there are no walls, there is no room. Just you. You're cool. Stay cool.
Thug shit.

Playing with friends is always more enjoyable than playing with strangers
I learned to not really care about who you're playing and how their playing, and just instead reacting to what they do and not be annoyed and just deal.
