Speaking of my mouth, I'm up for calling some matches for CEVO if there's room in the booth.

Seriously, let's fuckin do this.

bring back m0lk and cast with him. please make my dreams come true.

Molk is 90% homeless living around Berkeley as of two years ago. I'd say that this can't happen, sorry Madoff.

m0lk is quite the nomad. Last year he was boppin around Portland, and made it up to Seattle to hang out a bit before he made his way back towards Georgia, if I remember right. Lost touch with him this summer, but I'll drop him a text and see if he's still kickin.

Yep, my guys and I will be doing CEVO. Let's get as many people on board as we can. The more people sign up the more incentive there is for CEVO to accomodate our requests and take good care of us. (split into divisions based on last esea season, paid league, etc) We just need to show them that we care and use the services they're offering, thereby taking care of them. You're out of your mind if you're planning on playing ESEA after this season.

All we need from CEVO that we were used to with ESEA is:

  • Servers
Tragic or any other provider would offer a decent discount since CEVO would be renting in huge quantities for extended periods of time.

  • Stats
If CEVO could just embed sizzling stats into their website that would be a quick way to make stats available (we'd finally have heal stats for matches!). You'd have a button that toggles the dropping down of the in-game .SS window.

  • Demos
Auto uploading of demos is easy. I know PUGNA had it years ago.

  • Automatic STV relays
I don't know much about this but I don't imagine it being too difficult.

We don't really need anything else.

TF2.gg has expressed interest in forming a league; maybe they could help out CEVO with some servers for a discount as well. That would make it super easy, as well as potentially giving CEVO an in-game pug system.
Maybe the TF2.gg admins could be given some sort of trial period as community admins for CEVO; Pipher mentoned earlier they'd be looking for some help getting people in the correct divisions etc.

Seems like we have the potential to kill several birds with one stone here!

We have servers available for matches. CEVO has always been keen on letting teams use their own servers as long as configuration are properly set. We also work with the provider to get discount codes for users playing in the league. Our servers cost nothing to use for matches, incase some of you are concerned.

Stats in terms of using Sizzling Stats is not far fetched. Since it is open source any changes we may need in order to tie it into our site should hopefully be easy to accomplish. This of course is probably going to be a CEVO sanctioned server option only for those specific league matches.

STV demos is another easy thing to implement for matches played on CEVO servers. As for PoVs that would require alittle more finesse.

Hope this answers some of your questions.

I think we should be forced to play on Cevo servers. It doesn't give one team "home court advantage".

spaceghostpurrpI think we should be forced to play on Cevo servers. It doesn't give one team "home court advantage".

i agree. seeing as how nearly every teams server runs sourcemod for DM/MGE a person could add code into those plugins (as they are open source, although that doesn't matter with the decompiler) to give advantages to him/his team. nobody would be able to figure out about it, either. edit: i also think the only way to check what plugins a server is running requires rcon access

also the CEVO guy just said that it costs nothing to use one of their servers for matches, so I just don't see why not.

the funniest thing I can think of a person could do would be adding a random chance (10%?) that when they're shot by an enemy scout/sniper, that the shot does no damage. as far as the other team knows, the server has shitty reg. you could slightly increase the rate uber charges to shave off 2-3 seconds (for all those times that you die at 99%!) edit: could have the plugin inform you when the other team offclasses, have it keep you updated on what the other medics uber is, ect. kind of fun thinking of all the possibilities, aha.

We did have an incident in UGC where a team reconfigured their respawn points so they would always get the best possible forward respawn even if they didn't have the points to get it :( Whenever they were on red. It was pretty funny when the other team asked for a color switch and the other team refused and got mad lol.

I believe there's a video also of a team doing this - perhaps from ETF2l? Can't remember.

What? I have played for 5 seasons on ETF2L which has over 300 teams per season and 99% of the matches are played on the teams personal server and I have literally never even heard of any try to manipulate the server to any team advantage. There are more than 2000 oficials per season and it has was never even reported or heard of. I think you are making this issue up (not in the sense that it can't happen, but in the sense that it has never happened as far as I know.)

good thing I said 'could' and didn't even try to claim that it's a 'thing', right? :p just to play devils advocate though, perhaps the reason it's unheard of is the fact that only the person hosting the server would know. i did completely make this up though, friends and I joked about this almost two years ago talking about how easy and undetectable it would have been.

pls let this argument die here, it's already been taken too far through misunderstanding.

CEVO in Season 2 indicated it would expand to a Main division for Season 3, but due to lack of participation only kept the Open division. They'll probably port over the divisions from ESEA.

Yes, as long as enough players join CEVO next season, divisions similar to the ESEA divs will be made.

On the topic of servers--I agree on playing on only league servers. Like how ESEA functions just without the spying/bitcoin part.

Depending on how many teams we get, their prior experience in other leagues (ESEA, UGC) we have the potential to have the following divisions:

Open
Amateur
Intermediate
Main
Semi-Professional
Professional
Invite

Will we ever engage all of those? doubtful, but we can definitely model proper skill levels for teams and their competition and group them for seasonal play and maximum experience

Prototypes^I wonder if that stuff goes on in UGC?

I'm nearing finishing my second season in UGC and it seems to me that nobody does something like that if only because nobody particularly cares enough to cheat in UGC. The general undercurrent of attitude for most players is "playing for the medal". I think if you add prize pots and prospects of LAN, though, it'll be a very different story.

League servers only is probably the best way to get stv, live scores, and stat integration. Also, ss doesn't do halves quite right atm, that would be nice

As someone who has been around the comp scene since before the birth of ESEA, I actually remember playing in cevo when it was THE league. The only reason we left is because ESEA was offering more money, and all the stats were a nice touch. We've come to know and love the ESEA format for TF2, but most of us hate the league. If cevo is willing to copy the ESEA format, and improve on it, ill gladly convince my team to make the switch back to cevo.
