dummyPrototypesfunny how the people who want to stick with esea are: squid, platinum, dummy etc. what a fucking joke. everyone is getting baited so hard. dont want their free vacay goin away.
Suddenly it's a joke for LAN players to want to go to LAN? Just because you have a valid reason to leave, doesn't mean we don't have valid reasons to stay. Competition at the very top will die without a LAN. All the big plays and great matches you see on LAN are a product of the LAN environment. That level of play isn't happening online. I'm not trying to convince anyone to stick with ESEA, but it's true. Yeah the top invite players might keep playing the game but they won't be putting nearly the same amount of effort in an online match. It's difficult to get into that competitive mode online after playing on lan. We'd be losing out on our reason for playing the game. I saw a lot of people confused that platinum couldn't fathom other motivations for playing tf2. Well it goes both ways, LAN is the reason we play and that's as valid a reason as any.

I can understand that reasoning, and it makes total sense if I think about it from Platinum's POV. However, I don't think that any of the other points that he or any other invite/LANteam/player has brought up are really that valid. The way I hear their arguments is:
-We only enjoy this game because of LAN (which I find understandable)
-The game will die if we split (which I think is dumb af)
I feel like at this point people have made it pretty clear that most of us don't give a shit about there being a LAN (especially if there's possibility for LAN down the line). If we lose some of the best players in the game because of that, it doesn't really matter cause I'll still get to play tf2 in a comp league.
Also, that argument that losing the top players will kill the game or something is dumb because first of all, Watch This will be in CEVO next season. Second, when ESEA dies, there will be a good number of invite players that love TF2 far too much to quit, and they'll join us in CEVO.

The fact that the updated client is still currently installing malware on peoples computers, even after trial, is enough for me to drop this league right now if I wasn't on a team currently. I'm cancelling my subscription and won't ever resubscribe to esea. Thanks for the memories.

Dont understand why invite insist lan is the best way. Invites keep asking money from the community season after season so they can have a free trip to lan and they keep the prize money aswell. If they didnt receive money from the community i would bet their opinions would be different now. Just get the community to fund a prizepool for cevo next season instead. More worthwhile.
And suddenly the sky turned an ominous red as two meteors descended from the stars

I knew squid before he had ever been to ESEA lan (I was on a team with him), and even in low invite he was focused on making LAN. Not for a vacation but because he is very competitive and wanted to prove himself where it matters most. If people think the game will be fine after the current top invite dies off, that is ok but I hate this notion that we play for a vacation. It is about getting to play on an even playing field(0 ping, 0 fps) and to experience the craziest/tense games. Getting to meet your teammates and competitors is just a plus. LAN is just the ultimate motivation to get better for a lot of us.
Before I was even in open I just wanted to play with the best. I'm sure this makes me a nerd and most don't share this feeling but I care about the competition more than anything, and whenever I wasn't at LAN I would watch every single match I could. And when I think about street fighter and SC2, which I have spent a lot of time spectating, I would lose all my interest in the game if all my favorite players stopped taking it seriously.

why is this concept so incredibly difficult for people to understand?
i am far from an invite level player but i understand the idea of "we want to play on equal footing to determine who is the best"

the cash prize for CEVO (assuming there is no LAN for the first season) will be interesting because net of travel ($0 for the first season), those top players would have the opportunity to actually make more money for winning than what they ordinarily pocket. assuming that the prize is fairly substantial, i'd wager top players would be competitive for that online-only season (even though they'd likely leave the league eventually with no LAN to compete for).

Let me ask this about top level tf2 play and those people that goes to LANs, if it's honestly that important to you, are you willing to completely pay for the trip completely out of your own pocket?
I'm just wondering where the line is? Is going to LAN so important to not ask for a single donation?

I don't recall ever being unable to remove Steam from my computer via an uninstall.
"The ESEA Software enabled Defendants to not only monitor end-user
computer activity but also view and upload any and all end-users' computer files."
Whether the part in bold is true, or simply a legalese mis-understanding of the client's working is irrelevant. Until someone gets access to the actual code of the client, there's no way to know whether it does as the court document says, or functions as any other anti-cheat client.

squidThere is a pretty common rule of thumb in venture capitalism - you don't invest in a 'person'.
I, being a washed up shitter who has played this game for far too long, would truly love to post my detailed opinion on the numerous 'hot topics' brought up in this thread, such as:
- pine beetle being absolutely correct about the untapped highlander market.
- the necessity of a tangible prize.
- free vacations.
- migration.
But instead of publishing another thesis on this prestigious website, I ask that everyone take a moment to admire this quote.
I read this quote on my laptop, started laughing out loud, ran towards my computer in order to write THIS post as my mom yelled out "are you comin' back to watch the football game??!??" As I wiped the tears from my eyes and struggled up the stairs while doubled over, I was able to eek out a few words through the stifled laughter: "THIS... GUY..."
