hookyThe Budsquad are terrible people. They should have killed the team when ESEA forced them to play Open.

Playing ESEA only next season. Can't support anything associated with this team anymore

Ok, dont be stupid. Just call them shitters like the rest of us.

Was a great game. Very back and forth, tough way to lose for meat market. You guys are going to be really good though I hope you stay together for the long haul. Powah did some amazing things vs us on viaduct earlier in the season as well in the exact same way if anyone remembers. You guys should be proud of your accomplishments this season. You got what matters most and that's the promotion to main. Good luck.

GG, although I am bit salty about it BUDSQUAD earned the victory for sure. We underperformed and had many oppurtunitys to win.

I hope the tf2 community does not show the SQUAD too much animosity, they do raise money for cancer kids so.

From Europe, so I'm not sure I quite understand the ESEA system, so forgive me if this is completely wrong. Is it not the intended way that teams enter the league through Open? In the ETF2L you provide admins with screenshots/logs of scrims where you showcase that your roster can play better than entry-level, and the history of the players affects that as well.

As far as I understand, in the ESEA this can only be done in Invite. Perhaps I'm wrong? If it could be done in IM or Main, it would be inappropriate for BUDSQUAD and the other team in the finals to play in Open. But if it can't be done, how is it that the popular opinion in this thread is that the teams ought to somehow "cheat" the system? Is the system not run by admins who enforce that the league is played the way it is intended to play? If it is, shouldn't it be the case that new teams that can't make it to Invite are supposed to go to Open and if they somehow don't end up there, they are punished for "cheating" the system? Or at least the fraud is rectified and the new team that can't play in Invite is made to play in Open? Are the admins not concerned with the matter? Or is the system so unfathomably confounded that it would be exceptional and unfair if the system worked as intended and the admins were there to see that it works like that? If that was the case, has there not been an effort to change the system to fit the popular opinion? Change it so that new teams can legitimately enter the league at a level where their individuals' past seasons are taken into account, as long as recent team scrim results support that assessment?

Or can the system not be changed? If the system can't be changed, why is it not regarded as broken? If the system is regarded as broken, how are the players blamed? Please explain to a dumb outsider.

on that note, is there any explanation for why that happens with ESEA's client? hivemind not being able to join for their playoff match is ridiculous and completely changed a team's line up due to technical problems. my team experienced a similar issue during the regular season but we managed to have everyone join after we switched servers. what is this bug with client that causes these problems? it's really sad that meat market suffered from having subs play for such an important match due to something as dumb as client

RagorismBecause people on here want to fabricate and perpetuate drama, mostly. You wouldn't believe the petty shit people get worked up over, and in the same vein brush off actual serious shit (ESEA has a long-running list, recently a ton of client issues and delays, scheduling issues, STV issues, and everyone's favorite bitcoin/malware scandal).

To my knowledge, if you wanted to create a new team, you'd either have to go through Open, or join a roster (usually a dead one, if you can find a spare roster to bum off of someone) in the division you want to play in - so it is a problem with the system, if I understand correctly.

To be fair, a good number of invite/main players killed or came from a dead team, and hijacking/using a dead main/invite spot one would be better. Though it risks their team dying again and ruining the league with forfeits.

Also, I forgot, did ESEA add the rule that prevented people who wanted to stay in main/open when they were suppose to be moved up?

Dear budsquad,

It is unfortunate that your team is sandbagging open and taking the title from rising stars that deserve a chance to be champions, but I believe there is still a way you can redeem yourselves in the hearts of the team fortress 2 community. Please donate all of your prize money towards tip of the hats. I'm pretty sure that's not very much money but you might as well make playing for the check charitable.

Sincerely, Captain "capnfapn" Fapping

ESEA and roster creation.

When you make a new roster it has 2 destinies. It will either be immediately accepted into invite by killing due to its having a plethora of invite players (unless this roster is made after such a decision has already been made) or it will play in open. All other divisions (IM/Main) have to be entered through playoffs in Open or IM.

The only other way to obtain a roster is to get an IM or Main ready roster from somebody else, but then it is subject to the hijack rule where 2 persons who played in the previous season must remain on said roster and play 3 out of 4 of the first games (forfeits also don't count as games) or the team will be declared dead. Most people don't opt for this because it's risky, 2 guys who just randomly disappear will ruin your entire season and prevent you from playing in even open potentially - and most of the time when teams die too many people leave the roster and move on to other things to have 1/3rd of that team stick around to help ferry your new roster into the non-open division.

Ultimately I think ESEA created the rule to encourage teams to at least partially stay together (so as not to have to play in open), but this community is really bad about keeping teams together (even just 2 players). It also removes all human decision making from the equation (besides killing drafting invite teams). Which prevents petty issues of teams not liking the division they were, potentially, arbitrarily placed into by an admin whom may or may not be fully aware of the skill level of the team.

Also historically the Budsquad is by no means the first team to end up in this situation - hell for a long period of time there were several teams that would simply kill their roster and reform in open with the same players so as to avoid IM (either by being unable to create IM/Main rosters or by choice).

I don't think that people have a problem with Budsquad being in open. They understand that it's the way ESEA rules work and that unless those rules change, there's nothing to be done about it.

The reason people are upset is that all preseason and even for most of the regular season the offclass teams put forth this 'lol we're just playing for fun' message, but as we all saw, that changed as soon as their elimination became possible. The same thing happened with r5. As soon as there was the chance they wouldn't make playoffs, they went to mainclasses and took that playoff spot from some other team who had been working all season for it. Budsquad did the same thing. When they realized that they would not win on the roster that they'd picked from the start, they just switched a LAN capable scout onto his main class and he carried (as expected).

That's why I frankly have a lot of respect for Quantum Flux, because at least they made it clear from the very start that they wanted to win and that they were going to play on their main classes rather than give everyone this song and dance about how they're just loveable bros who just wanna play TF2 together (by the way, I'm sure that's true for Budsquad, and it's clear that they enjoy playing games together, which is cool and I don't fault them for that). It's just frustrating to see the switch back to main classes as soon as the going gets tough.

Big shoutout to Meat Market though, almost managing to pull out a victory despite the mainclassing and despite the client issues.

Good luck in the grand finals guys, and go Quantum Flux! (I never thought I'd be saying that, but here we are)

Yah, if you're going to win by switching to your mains instead of actually working to improve at other classes, then don't play the whole "it's okay that we're in open because we're off classing" game at the beginning of the season.

QF did it the right way

It would've been cool to see an up and coming team win open though
