Depends on the setting of the fight. In water or open land a polar bear would probably win because it could charge and easily swipe the gorilla's face off, but in a forest environment a gorilla would have too much mobility to drop down on a polar bear and one hit KO the bear.

In a completely empty and fair environment, what animal would win in a fight, a gorilla or a polar bear?
polar bear wins 9-1

Is that really fair for the Gorilla though? That's like playing soldier vs soldier but one of them isn't allowed to rocket jump. No mobility is death.
Also, I feel like a polar bear is more likely to run off if things start getting bad. A gorilla has to deal with all sorts of jungle bullshit that the polar bear doesn't have.

Imo if gorilla can Dodge first attack and use its thumbs to fuck up polar bears eyes it wins. Otherwise doesn't matter how smart/fast you are. Imagine if you were 5 years old and stuck in a room with shaq fighting him. He will destroy you without even trying unless you somehow disabled hin

except shaq would be bigger and faster/more agile and smarter than a 5 year old, while the polar bear is just bigger

So we have animal A that is well below the size and weight of the average prey animal S of predator B.
What do you expect to happen when for some reason B is trying to kill A?
A big adult male polar bear can kill a 2 ton walrus and believe it or not, you're way more likely to get your eyes stabbed out or being killed by 3 feet long tusks than by opposable thumbs.

MrYokeNeither. The fight wouldn't happen because both are peaceful creatures.

I mean, I quoted the actual poll itself. I answered the question exactly how it was presented, lol.

It's been said before and I'll say it again. The polar bear is in another class. It's the largest land-dwelling predator on earth. There hasn't been anything bigger since, like, ice ages or dinosaurs or something. Predator bear to defeat vegetarian gorilla 5-0. The gorilla's smarts and thumbs here are basically irrelevant.
This is where the fight is supposed to take place by the way, and there's the ref

I think it would be the opposite really, there's not really any predator like the polar bear in the jungle that a gorilla would deal with. And the polar bear is more of a predator and wouldn't know anything other than fighting, I think a Gorilla would feel out of it's depth and bail

The polar bear is an apex predator at the top of the food chain, it would fuck that gorilla in half.
Explanation:
Doesn't matter that the gorilla is more intelligent, the polar bear has the predator instinct needed to rip that gorilla apart in under half a minute. And regarding to a post above, gorilla's try to intimidate their opponents, where as polar bears just jump at their victims without a second thought.

Aren't gorillas strong as hell or something? Though gorilla are kind of at a disadvantage too just considering weight. If it had some sort of crude weapon, I could see it being different.
Also, King Kong is a stone cold killa.
Also, King Kong is a stone cold killa.
gorilla would have a lot more reach but is nearly half the weight of the polar bear. Plus the bear has huge claws so there's really no contest here.
Yeah but gorillas are still cool as fuck so it's 1-1
breloomthe would you rather threads were better
Okay...
Would you rather bet money on a polar bear winning the fight or a gorilla.

Other than polar bears being ambush predators and most bears actually just being scavengers, you'd have a point. Walruses fighting polar bears is hilarious. I remember seeing a video of some 5'2" 140 pound dude chasing a polar bear with a 2x4. The polar bear was scared shitless.
Gorillas, however, aren't preyed upon except in old age, sickness and their very, very young days. They deal with leopards, refined ambush predators designed to take down large prey, on the reg. Not to mention how fast a polar bear would overheat in conditions a gorilla freeze to death.

A wolverine would have a better chance against the polar bear than a gorrila
large animal fights have been set up since the 1800s, the bear almost always win. large cats can't do anything to it because of its thick hide, not to mention one swipe from the bear is likely a KO to their weak skulls. the gorilla is 300-700 less pounds than the bear. this question typically comes in the form of gorilla vs grizzly, not polar though. my info might not be accurate in this case.
edit: not to mention gorillas aren't fighters. they rely on looking big to scare away predators. bears are known to fight and kill much much more.
Yawnypolar bears are more of a natural predator than the gorilla and would have better instincts so in a fight the average polar bear would be "smarter"
^ is what I was going for, just worded it terribly.
